New K-series DSLR under development to be exhibited

We don't even know if the screen is flippy, tilting or flying with a drone behind it.

There are literally two APS-C cameras with more than 26 MP: the Canon 90D and M6ii which have been announced less than a month ago. Everything else is lower or equal. Also, thinking that 10% MP count means anything is hilarious.

If you want a mirrorless go and buy it. Why don't you? What do you have against people that cannot use EVFs, that you want to remove their OVF option completely when it is of no impact to you?

Do you have any clue what you write about or are you being contrarian for the heck of it?

They announced the development months ago when they said they were working on the K-3ii replacement. Now they are announcing that they will officially announce, in a day or two (21st is tomorrow yay) *what* the K-3ii's replacement is.

I had to return the K-1 I bought some weeks ago (it had a pretty annoying e-dial problem), so I feel exactly like that. Now the K-7 feels... constricted. I cannot go out at sunset and take pictures with amazing colours without a tripod.

Norm, haven't you seen that the new camera doesn't have a tilt screen/eye AF/flash/gps/enough FPS/weighs 200 g/pick_your_lacking_feature?

There's always something to complain about. I personally think the camera looks perfectly swell. Let's see what they tell us tomorrow.

"Got them good, did I"

The tweet has been proven to be *very* accurate:
-The camera was not announced this fall
-The camera will not be released this fall

Technically correct is the best kind of correct :D;)

Sounds like it, it looks like the K-1 one (and there's no reason for it not to be included)

Looks substantially different, however... it's larger and has a different shape. All the other buttons are basically identical.

Yeah, you might be able to change what the third wheel does with the joystick or, worst case scenario, in menus. I know I would leave it in either ISO (for M mode) or +-EV for all the Priority modes, so it wouldn't be a huge hassle for me.

Wait wait wait, the third dial isn't a third dial but the video/LV selector? That... would be a terrible idea. Let's see what it has once they talk about it in a couple days.

Also the VF is *yellow*. I've never seen mine look yellow. Get hype for the hybrid finder!

Not that I know of, even the very small Olympus Pen cameras use normal SDs.

If it's a wooden/non-working prototype it might not show the flippy screen.
Let us remain calm and collected.

Oh who am I kidding this thing looks sweet, the third dial is here to stay (YES!!) and I really wanna know what the new toys are. Also, I'm dying with the misdirection of Ricoh announcing the camera the LAST DAY OF SUMMER.

Further trivia note, Zeiss Ikon Dresden was merged with other camera factories of the Dresden area and renamed Pentacon in the late 50s. It ended up agglomerating, as well, names like Ihagee (makers of the first commercialized 35mm SLR, the Exakta) or Meyer-Optik-Görlitz. It was dismantled and more or less ceased to exist as such (some remains of the company were bought by the same investor who resurrected Schneider-Kreuznach and, from what I can see, still make scanner cameras) after being dismantled during German reunification.

Carl Zeiss AG still has headquarters in Oberkochen, a small town near Stuttgart, and Jena, interestingly. Someone I know used to work on a collaboration with Zeiss Oberkochen for improving their electron microscopes (incidentally, we more or less have only Zeiss equipment for our lab imaging).

I failed miserably, probably because I was looking for technical aspects instead of trusting the composition gut. The bottom one is better but I somehow like the colour rendering on the car more on the top one.

It's also interesting that the DA 21 at f/9 has quite a bit more CA than the kit lens... although to be fair those snow patches at that angle are almost a torture test.

I was being a bit sarcastic (and I guess ThorSanchez was as well), the notion of a PLM 20mm prime is hilarious. AW would be, now talking seriously, great.

I have only bought online and second hand, at that... PhD salary doesn't go that far. To make matters better, my local retailers have (sometimes!) a K-70 with 18-135 in store. The rest of the Pentax cabinet is filled with old GDR cameras. I mean the Prakticas and Pentacons look cool but they aren't weather sealed.

What is the actual benefit of mirrorless?

Damned if you do, damned if you don't; I also think that Clackers looks slightly "copy-pasted" on top the background, but it's absolutely true that anything less would have resulted in a muddled frame, there's already quite some motion blur... Very challenging situation.
@clackers you should wear brighter trousers to make it easier for the photograher!:lol: (Also are those Salomon trainers?)

Yeah, there are differences, but at this size they are small enough; I don't consider the "bad" image to be a bad one at all, just... Okay, maybe less outstanding, and that's after looking very hard at the images. I wouldn't pay extra for the left one.

I refuse to spend that much on gear, on the grounds that I don't wanna and that I wouldn't be taking any better pictures anyway.

Honest question, was that before or after they were told which lens took what? I'm not saying that there is no difference, I'm saying there are minute differences. That means "you have to know what you are looking for to notice" differences, or that you have to look closely. I still struggle to see any meaningful difference in the colours except for a couple details in the leaves of the strawberries and that's it.

Obviously it's better to have options, I don't know why you are insisting on that when I never said anything to the contrary. If I were to decide between the 70 and the 77 I would probably toss a coin, get the 77 anyway and be happy with it because ultimate sharpness is for the bourgeoisie. Or I would get the 70 because it's less than half of the price and I would still be happy because the differences are barely visible and my work is for myself.

For the record, I have gotten a bunch of perfectly adequate A4 and even some A3 prints that were taken with a manual focus lens on a K-7. Everyone who saw them thinks our cat is unbelievably cute and I got no comments about chromatic aberrations :lol:.

It's such a great little lens (and the M series look aesthetically gorgeous).
Darker areas that with current sensors are very easily lifted... at f 2.8 or smaller you won't get vignetting and at 2 or 1.7 you probably don't want corner detail anyway so you don't care about losing some in post. Aberrations, maybe for critical work it will be problematic, but automatic correction has also come a long long way.

Your starting point is *wanting* the look of an 85mm and being dead set on having the best fast 85mm money can buy. You don't care about options, you want the *best performing 85mm*. Your entire point is nonsensical unless you take "I don't know what I want" as a starting point.

Just pushing the argument a bit towards an extreme, it's like if you said that a birder won't know if they want a 20mm lens because they haven't tried it. No, seriously, they won't want to do birding with a wide angle. You don't need a PhD to know that.

Regarding the images you posted, if you didn't tell me that they are taken with different lenses I would have thought you posted the same pic twice. There is some minute difference (the left one slightly more detail on the ever-so-slightly-out-of-focus backgrounds, but it compensates with the right one because the foreground strawberry looks better than in the left one). Colour rendition is basically the same as well. I am thinking of some placebo effect here...

It was a statement from the company. It was made, I suspect, so that Canon can say "all of you kids shut up because we are still the biggest baddest boys in town and we haven't lost our edge when it comes to pushing lens design". Let's be clear: optically it's a monster, and it's not even as large and heavy as I would think from such a fast zoom considering that 2.8 is already a stretch for those things... props to the designers there.

It's still mighty impractical and I would never use it, though XD

I have been shooting for a year and I know, before taking the camera from the belt, if the wide end of the zoom lens that's on the camera at that moment is not gonna cut it for that building. I also know that I have between zero and no need for any lens longer than 200 or so mm. I also, *also* know that I'd much rather shoot 135mm at 2.8 than 85mm at 1.4-1.8 from 3 meters farther away, because the background blur is not going to look THAT much different and I'm saving half a kg (and half a grand, hah) on the lens.

Seriously, this argument that you have to try everything for something that is literally two mathematical formulas that anyone can learn with half a week of reading up on basic optics is nonsensical.
