Will try to revive a beaten K1000

Great job on the lens! Looks like new.
Wish you well on the K1000. I bought a "untested" ME Super for cheap at an online auction and it wouldn't fire. I'm pretty handy but couldn't get it working. They're astoudningly complicated little buggers despite being 30 years old. I learned a little bit so I've give it a try again but I think I draw the line at removing the shutter box. That's above my pay grade.

Wow, sorry. I somehow missed that you had responded. Thanks so much for taking the time to have a look and play with my image a bit. I agree that yours looks a lot better and much more what I had hoped for. I obtained a copy of Photoshop elements and Lightroom. They are a bit overwhelming, but trying to learn how to manipulate my images a bit.

Thanks again.

Thereís a Spotmatic SP on shopGoodwill right now thatís up to $212. Comes with 55/1.8, 105/2.8, 50/1.4 lenses. Iím sure that 1.4 lens is pretty desirable but isnít that a big total for a bundle of screw mount lenses and a camera that likely has a broken meter?

Iíd advise just be patient and you can get good prices. The reason I now have 5 of the 110 bodies (all bought relatively recently) is because I placed lowball bids on EBay items that werenít getting many bids and won.
KEH hasnít had a lot of inventory but keep watching. When they get stuff, their prices can be quite good. I bought the AF130 flash for $5, close up filters for $3-4. Better than EBay prices.
Good luck.

I made a splitter and have successfully run the film through my 110, reloading tomography 110 film casettes. The section of the film in my case is taken from the center of the 35mm film so all the sprocket holes are cut off. The only downside to using cut film like this is you can't use a winder I believe. The tiny rectangular holes on the film tell the camera when to stop winding and I believe the winder would keep going through the whole roll.

The other problem is that without the tiny rectangular holes to tell the camera where to space to images, you end up with irregularly spaced pictures. Not a big deal but my scanning mask for my flatbed scanner has a little square cut out for each image, so they almost never line up right, making scanning more tedious. Another scanning mask without individual holes for the images would fix that problem easily.

Itís a fun little camera. I originally bought a set on Goodwill auction site that had the camera, pan focus 18mm, 24mm and 50mm. I lost control on EBay and ended up getting the regular 18mm, a winder, the Af130p flash, the 20-40mm zoom, 70mm telephoto, 4 more camera bodies, the light brown case and several of the filters.
In addition to the Lomography film, film photography store is now selling another 110 film, recently expired I believe.
I also made a splitter so when Lomography decides to stop selling 110 film, the party never has to end.

For 32 bucks I'd buy that. 30-40 bucks seems to be the going price for Spotmatics with broken light meters on Ebay. It's a weird set up but if that tacked on light meter works, it's got a leg up on my Spotmatic.

Interesting discussion. I recently got a Spotmatic with a broken meter and wanted to give it a try. On a cloudless day one week ago in my backyard (Northern California) at 1:30 pm I was especting this to be an f16 day. However checking my exposure with my K1000 and ME Super showed that I was underexposed 2 plus stops. I guess my location and the time of year I ought to be thinking f11 or even 8 as a starting point.

They're "effective" pixels too. I guess you pay more for those than the ineffective ones.

Local CL -someone asking $60 for a 2 megapixel, 3x optical zoom digital camera.
Seems a bit much, no?

ďThe FinePix 2650 Zoom camera, with 2.0 million effective pixels, produces image with 1600 x 1200 recorded pixels.....Ē

Recently back into photography and especially film and still learning. Just fooling around recently trying to shoot some snow. Having not done this much I read somewhere that in general one needs to overexpose by a stop or so that's what I did with a partial roll of Arista 400 B&W and (I forget) 200 roll of color. These are not meant to be art, just seeing what kind of results I'd get. Some of the color I wasn't too displeased with. The B&W I thought was pretty horrible and I'm not sure what it is that I don't like about it. They just look bad IMO. I think the snow is perhaps too white and washed out. Everything else seems drab shades of silver/grey. It was well after noon and the sun was starting to dip below the trees. I think that's why some pics turned out darker than I expected despite over exposing 1 stop. Therefore when I scanned I tweaked things to make a bit brighter in some cases, but not sure they came out any more pleasing. For lack of a better explanation, I think the B&W looks like a crappy photo one might see in a 20 year old news paper. Lifeless, drab and very grainy.

The B&W was stand developed with Rodinal and the color was developed with a Unicolor C41 kit. Negatives were scanned with Epson Perfection V500. I think especially with the B&W the tweaks I made in the Epson Scan made the imaged brighter, but seemed to degrade the image in other ways.

Any advice for future attempts to take similar photos, developing or scanning would be greatly appreciated.

I'd pay 45 or so for a CLA but that seems low and is be afraid that fixing a lightmeter would add significantly to the price

Spotmatic SP - light meter unresponsive to adjustment in aperture and shutter speed

Thanks for the replies. I kinda figured there wasn't an easy fix to this problem. I hadn't really had interest in a Spotmatic until recently and it was kind of an impulse buy. Having looked around after the fact, it seems like busted or unreliable light meters might be the norm for cameras this old. Just perusing Ebay it seems like almost all of the cameras are sold as broken light meter or "untested - don't have a battery", which probably often means broken.

Having watched some youtube videos last night it seems like Sunny 16 might be less of a crapshoot than I thought, so I might just find some use for this camera shooting without a light meter. Alternatively might try the light meter app and see what kind of results I get.

Thanks.

Spotmatic SP - light meter unresponsive to adjustment in aperture and shutter speed

Recently "won" a Spotmatic SP with 55mm Super-Takumar lens on an auction site.
I was initially very pleased with the basic function of the camera (shutter speeds seems grossly accurate, shutter cocks etc). I finally got a battery (1.5 volt from a thermometer I had at home, centered with a rubber O-ring) and with a little fiddling to get the contacts right, the meter seemed to respond. Did the battery test (B setting, 100 ISO, the meter pegs (-) when I adjust the shutter speed) and it seemed to be OK. Problem is the meter seems completely unresponsive other than deflecting when the meter is switched on. Going from looking out a window to a dark room, the meter doesn't move. Changing the aperture and shutter speed don't affect the metering. I can at times get the meter to move a bit by adjusting the iso setting.
Doing a search on here and other sites, it doesn't seem like there's an easy fix for this problem but I wanted to see if anyone had a similar problem and found a fix. Anyone?
I pulled off the bottom plate it's clean enough to eat off underneath. Wires look good, no corrosion. Contacts look Ok and as mentioned above, it seems to pass the battery test.
The camera is not pristine externally but pretty good for what I paid. Not good enough that I want to spend 4X what I paid for the camera for a CLA. I might spool up a short roll of film and try shooting with Sunny -16 or a light meter app to see what kind of results I get, but frankly without a functioning light meter, I'm not sure I'll bother using it. I've got a beautiful K1000 and ME Super that are a joy to shoot with.
Unfortunate. I was ready to surrender myself to the the world of Super Takumar goodness and was looking at other lenses, but not sure it's worth it (I know I can get an adapter).

Any insight into me problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Local CL ad

"Hi I have for sale my Contax T3 in black. Just gave up all of a sudden. Multiple situations like clicking the shutter button causes the lens to retract in and out and the shutter will no longer fire. Lens covers will get stuck as well. Optics are clean. Body is dinged up from years of use. Good for parts or repair if youíre technically inclined.

$600 firm"

I inquired about a lens which was listed as "as is", "nonfunctional" but nothing more. The pictures looked good so I sent a question saying that I was interested in the lens but wanted to know more about in what way the lens was "nonfunctional". His response was " read my description. "
