I have a cupboard full of screw mount and bayonet mount taks and SMC's, etc as well. Bought them all when I first started out on this 'cheap' hobby

I really should put them through their paces on the K-1 and see which works.

Absolutely gorgeous. What a great choice of lens to enhance the golden feeling as well. I'm sure Mum and Gran's will be pleased with a print of this

Nicely taken Clarkey. Art is such an individual taste. Not my cup o' tea but it is undeniable that these kids think they are important. I never have figured out how they think they are being individual by looking like everyone else with tatts, but hey, what would I know? (colour me fuddy duddy).

I hope these kids still like them in 40 years time, there is no going back (or is there? I've often thought a tatt removal business would be a goldmine :))

My daughter and her hubby have quite a collection, but they are respectful enough to at least make a pretense of covering them up when they visit. No neck or face tatts, thank goodness.

New video review: Pentax 31mm f1.8 limited Vs Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art lens on K1

Fair enough.
I disagree.
The 31 is amazing, The sigma is huge by comparison, less wide, but faster.
There is no less subtlety in a large but silent lens than a small but slightly noisy one.
Your findings are valid. Thanks for the comparison.

in the recently controversial Pepsi ad there are two photographers, a male and a female. Both are using a pentax 645. I couldn't tell if they were the d or z.

I'm not sure I see the logic in returning the lens that got you the best shot of the year, but OK. The tales of traveling 100,00kms/year to take photo's must be worth telling.

My experience is the opposite Barry, I hadn't expected too much from a 'Tamron' lens, but really needed something as a walk around/semi wide for the K-1. It has far exceeded my expectations, even if it was a touch on the expensive side. ($2000 Au)

We must be talking about different lenses. My D-FA 24-70 is great. It has hardly come off my K-1 since I bought it back in October. And if you look at my sig line you will see I have quite a few lens options to choose from.

Have you actually used the lens, or just read reviews?

Sorry Jer, if you don't like to have the guide display on, you are out of luck, that is the only way I know of to see which metering mode is active. One suggestion may be to assign three of your user modes to the three metering modes, then name them accordingly. As you turn the dial the display will tell you the name of the user mode.

K-1 Tethering

One workaround to get the K-1 images into C1 by stealth is to use LR as the import medium and then save the files to a folder, which is the C1 hot folder.

Aaaaaand the winner is.... Glen 5995 Nice job with the vibrance of the leaves (they really are that colour) and replacing the sky

Nice work guys.

RFD, if you tone down the cyans/blues just a smidge that is exactly what it looked like at the time.

It was tough work, standing ankle deep in warm clear water, peering at the tilting screen of the K-1, with a beer in hand. But, one has to suffer for ones art....

I hope I'm doing this right

I thought I would try for the total opposite of the previous challenge. Instead of the layered cold of the Scottish highlands scene; brisk and chilly. Here is a shot from the Great Barrier reef, blue skies and warm calm water. K-1 with the DFA 24-70

I realise I have been tardy in responding to the challenge, so I'm not sure if the full week will apply to allow time for participation. I guess if it does the challenge will end at midnight Thursday Dec 14 AEDST.

Good luck!

Apologies folks. With the advent of the silly season in our construction industry, I've been working my behind off. I wonder if people know the world really does not end on Dec 25 each year....

Thanks for selecting me KD, it's always good to get even the slightest appreciation of one's meager skills. Chuffed as I am, I will not have time to attend to this until the weekend, so if the decision must be made for someone else to take the title, then that's ok with me. :)

Edit. I decided the honour of submitting an image was too attractive to be deferred, so, challenge #203 has been posted

I'd say the K-1 is about the same as the K-3, imperceptibly different if anything.
My advice is to take all DPR says about the K-1 with a large spoonful of salt. They simply don't understand the camera.

Ok, someone hold me up, I think I might be seeing things.

I'm flicking through my Foxtel channels,(Australian version) when I come across a full HOUR of an ad for Ricoh/Pentax. They are flogging a k-50 twin lens kit with some accessories for $799 Oz. Clem Kennedy himself is on screen giving us the low down on the camera and the various accessories. I can finally say Pentax and Advertising in the same sentence! While a spot on the home shopping network is no-where near full page ads in leading photo mags, etc. It is remarkable.

Options, options, K-1, 24-70 or 31 Limited.

I have a lot of the equipment listed in this thread. My most recent acquisitions are the K-1 and the 24-70. In my opinion, the 24-70 is an outstanding lens. I spent a lot of time agonising over the option of purchasing the 15-30 or the 24-70. I ended up opting for the 24-70 as a general purpose walk around lens, mainly because I was put off by the bulbous front element of the 15-30. I also have the 3 amigo's so I have the range of the 24-70 more or less covered, which was also a consideration.

I'm not sure where you get the pricing of the 31 being only a couple of hundred less than the 24-70, it certainly isn't true in my local market.

I had reasonably mediocre expectations of the 24-70, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It pairs brilliantly with the K-1, and is tack sharp where it counts. I have not noticed any softness in the corners of my images, but maybe I'm not as pernickety about these things as some others. It is very well built, WR and packs an optical punch. good enough for me.

The 10-17 is only usable in crop mode on the K-1, unfortunately.

Hi Antonio, it looks like you are correct. Not being a lightroom user (even though I have a $10/month adobe account which keeps it up to date) I was not aware of the latest updates.
