+1 on the Tamron 10-24. I'm sure it's no DA12-24, but I love mine. On the other hand, I love my two DA-L kit lenses too. And all of the junky twenty-dollar M's I've harvested from ebay.

Switch the camera to Manual Focus.....the MF/AF switch on the left side. The light won't come on, but you'll still get focus confirmation in the viewfinder and catch-in-focus shutter release still functions.

Get a good circular polarizer.......it will help you control the glare from the shiny parts.
If you need a shot from directly in front of the TV and don't want your reflection to appear, you'll need a "shift" (or tilt/shift) lens which will allow you to position the camera off to one side but still get the whole TV in the frame.

Did you try resetting the camera defaults? I found two resets: "Reset Custom Functions" in the Setting menu, and "Reset" in the Setup menu.
I would also try downloading and re-installing the firmware.

Anyone know how to open the weatherproof O-RC1 remote?
I've got the four Philips screws removed, and I can see the silicone O-ring around the perimeter, but it's fastened in the center somehow.
I don't think there's another screw there.....I can't detect anything under the sticker on the back anyway.....

Not necessarily..... Dirty lens article -- personal experience backs this up (but not to the same extreme). Finger marks or dirt on the front have never affected my shots, except in the case of flare. My 70-210 has a big scratch that should appear in the lower corner but it's all but invisible.
Re-sale value is another story entirely!

When I bought my K-r (my first dSLR), it had all kinds of disappointing problems: front-focus, sloppy composition, poor choice of subject.....I could go on and on. But, the more I used it the better it got. And it continues to get better, almost one year later!
I find that when my camera has trouble focusing in dim light, it means I should use flash. Once you buy your K-r, get a "Prof Kobre Light Scoop" for your built-in flash and you'll be astonished at how much better your indoor pictures turn out.

I think a digital camera can only capture full color, and "b&w" is actually a filter applied post-capture, whether by the camera or during post. So, your RAW DNG contains all the info (settings, etc, plus the image data itself) and your software (and software settings) determines how it's displayed upon opening it. The RAW file isn't meant to be printed/displayed/emailed-to-grandma "as is"....it needs processed and saved in another format.
I've never saved (nor processed) a RAW file, so I don't know if any of this is correct.

The one I have seems to be fine. I've been using it for about two weeks now, alternating with the oem battery.
I bought this one, and the charger they sell, which can be used in the car, or on mains power.

DeadJohn, THANK YOU! for posting this tip! It never would have occurred to me....
I too have been having trouble with the "front-focus" issue (as well lurking for the past month). I only noticed a focusing problem under relatively dim light, when I'd be using the lens' fastest stop. Following the advice in another thread I tried several kinds of bright artificial light, to no avail. Bright daylight never resulted in bad focus, although I managed quite a few clunkers under overcast skies.
By setting the white balance specifically for the type of lighting, rather than relying on AWB, all my focus issues seem to be resolved. I've tried tungsten (halogen bulbs), two kinds of CFL's (2800K and 6500K) and the long tube-style fluorescent bulbs out in the workshop. No problems.
We should be "enjoying" some light snow flurries here tomorrow, and I'll get a chance to test the "cloudy sky" setting.
Thanks again! (maybe this will help Pentax develop a firmware update, too.....)
