DFA 150-450 problems

My 3 year old lens is on its way back to Japan, and probably going to cost me a truckload of dollars to repair.
I was having intermittent problems with the auto focus ( the camera would switch to manual focus while I was trying to track "things) but was reluctant to send it away for repair because I suspected it would have to be sent back to Japan (I use the lens most days for birds, motorcyles etc.)
Then the zoom died. It started grating and jammed between 200 and 450.
I have been told there is a problem with the rear elements, so goodness knows when it will return and how useful/reliable it will be after repair.
Current price for a replacement is about $AUD3300.

Thank you, I really like the clouds just above the horizon. This was taken from the viewing platform on a fire watch tower.

Still got some good shots if these are a representative sample. I would print abd frame#2, love it.

I use mine on both my K3 and K1; maybe I am not as discerning as others but I print 438mm x 329mm (13 x 19) on Ilford Pearl paper and am more than happy with results. Have had friends who have held the combination of body, battery grip and lens who suggest it is heavy, so quality of images may be more affected by camera shake than lens problems. My version seems to be quite good through the zoom range. (photos in post 743 in this thread)

I am fortunate that we are well settled. I always thought that I would purchase a sports car when I had some extra cash (read that as got old). Now I look at older blokes in sports cars and think hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!, so I spent the money on a K1! and feel very pleased with myself

Well done. Wattle birds around here tend to be very flighty and easily scared off.

Thanks for your comments.
We have a sliding glass door into the back yard which I have used several times for portraits, I saw the dog sitting there and used the light meter to take a reading from the hair above her eyes.

Pleased that you looked and thanks for the comments. Had two cracks, don't know that I can justify the expense of a (about $150 odd) third.

Maj has the Life of Pi on tonight - certainly confirms why I only watch wildlife shows, and, even then, it is most likely to be an Attenborough show.

Best I could hope for was a head under the blankets and hope that it worked out well. Next time I might lose myself in a bottle of good red.

I appreciate you viewing and your kind comments

Thank you, Janse I look forward to more of yours

Love the look on the face of the kid with the ball and the kid tackiling doesn't look like he is going to let go in a hurry.

Close is good, even closer next time to catch those expressions. really like the shot speaks to me about how seriously kid take their sport.

Thanks, the reflections are quite amazing when you see the photograph. The kids who were making the bubbles were having a ball

Thanks Heinrich, sometimes simple stuff just works and this was pure happenstance. I was drinking coffee in the library when I saw the first group of bubbles stream by. I still had my camera with me because I didn't like the look of the character who had parked quite close to me in the car park.

Hey Antonio, thanks. I appreciate the time people take to look and comment
