Thanks, so previewing exposure is NOT possible in manual mode then. Too bad, its nice when camera makers allow both to happen in manual liveview - constant bright exposure for focusing or studio strobe work, and then exposure preview/simulated exposure for finding the right exposure without shooting a bunch of shots to check exposure levels.
any chance this has changed in the K5 II?

Right, i understand exposure compensation works on lightening or darkening the image, but what about aperture or shutter or iso in manual mode?

During Liveview operation of the K5, is it possible to view live adjustment to exposure on the LCD during manual mode?
Before it was stolen, I could determine the exposure I was looking for on the LCD of my K30 in manual mode by adjusting a combination of ISO, shutter, aperture etc..... ie set aperture, set iso, and then input a quicker shutter speed, for example, darker image on the lcd.
So does the original K5 have this feature as well?.....if I increase the shutter speed or aperture while viewing my composition in LV on the K5, will the image on the LCD reflect this exposure change by darkening or lightening based on a change in ISO/Shutter/Aperture OR in "M" mode does the LCD always display a bright scene for the prurposes of easier focusing and composition?
Is anything different on the K5 II?

I have an earlier version of Lightroom that does not have the camera profile, and is not showing a sharpening value applied to imported K30 images (as it does when it imports from a camera it recognizes).....but, they do appear sharp as soon as they are imported which is why I ask if the camera is doing something similar to the baked in NR applied even to DNG / RAW K30 photos.

I would not get the K30 if you're shooting sports. The in-camera buffer fills up way too fast if you are firing off shots in RAW, and you are likely to miss shots.

In general a very capable performer other than that damn near useless buffer.

I shoot a good amount of live music.
Generally this camera is a good performer:
I find the metering to be, in general, very good.
One thing that is seriously an issue on this camera is fast FPS shots. 5-6 FPS is plenty fast IMO, but the buffer on this camera fills up pretty darn close to instantly when shooting raw.... Pretty big handicap when you need to fire off a number of shots.

I have a question on default sharpening applied in camera to K30 RAW/DNG files.
If I shoot DNG/RAW is is sharpening "baked-in" to these K30 DNG files?
Thanks.

thank you for the replies.
von, when you say a "hard pin" what do you mean?
there is a pin on the lens but it pushes in with pressure and back out when released. no aperture ring on this model.

Hi,
Bought my first M42 Lens and it is a Mamiya Sekor 135 2.8. It has the A/M switch to switch to manual and is NOT the SX version.
I am confused as to whether this lens can get stuck on newer bodies such as my K30 or if it is just the SX version of this lens that has mounting issues on pentax bodies.
Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I just got a S-type focusing screen for my K30.
And I feel pretty good about installing this thing, I was just wondering how many people have just been able to drop the screen in without the shims and been good to go....particularly I am looking for experiences on K30s.
Should I expect multiple installations to mess around with shims?
Thanks!

I agree with this, in critical/fine focus situations even with the peaking you need to estimate the sweet spot within the contrast peaking to get the area in focus.

I just found out what my issue was. I had somehow switched EV bracketing on using the right arrow dial on the back of the camera, this caused the EV scale indicator to blink.

did this get resolved?? I am having the same issue with my K30.
Blinking exposure level indicator in the OVF with two solid indicators on either side.
Can anyone chime in here?

Can someone explain how the focus ring is dampened on legacy Pentax manual focus lenses?
I have three a-series lenses with a varying amount of dampening (none of which are particularly well damped)
The 24mm a-series lens I just purchased has such a loose focus ring it it is bit hard to achieve focus. There is no resistance/dampening whatsoever.
Is this how these lenses were supposed to feel or is there something internally that control dampening/resistance that wears out over time?
Thanks!

me too, its nice to be able to use the distance scale though - even if it is a bit rough around the edges.

so basically it is kind of useless, but not totally useless.
so in summary: for MF on aps-c using the hyperfocal scale, stop down 1 or 2 stops from F/ number on the distancing scale for proper DOF.

really? I thought because of the crop sensor depth of field is different than 35mm film and/or full frame. so the hyperfocal distance range on the lens is totally accurate?

Am I right in believing that the hyperfocal distance scale on manual focus lenses is not accurate on my shiny new K30 because of the crop sensor?
