Update on the Pentax LX: I did send the camera to Eric Hendrickson for repairs. I consider the price of repairing the camera, including the damage I did to the prism housing after I disassembled it to try to repair (bad, bad of me) the viewfinder glass that fell inward after I try to clean it, very fair ( on the cheap side), since I expected to be charge more because of the prism assembly damage. $249 only.. awesome. It seems that Eric is a sought after repairs specialist since it will take some time to get the camera back due to others being ahead, but he came trough for me when I requested from him if I could have it by October 4. I would recommend him wholeheartedly.

Complementary Colors

One of the most vibrant submissions in "complimentary colors" if not the most vibrant. Beautiful, framed perfect. Colors rendition on the plumage, coupled with the image downward focusing gradient makes it a perfect candidate to win.

The theme is suppose to be "complimentary colors", not array of colors. This is one of the few submissions I see that uses the natural gradient of complementary colors from one of the best shows in nature for the "theme" fall. Beautiful, the reflection is almost surreal, dreamy, like a painting from a master impressionist.

I'm latin. Your google translator is lacking. the sentence really means: For me Pentax is completly destroyed. Nikon est (in latin it can have a full meaning when previously understood as in: For me Nikon is it now. I was using your word:Delenda: destroyed, anihilated. But in reality I should use Death (Mortis):but as in not longer exist= defunctio.

Nam me Pentaxo defunctio est. Nikon est. For me Pentax is dead. Nikon is now.

My dear friend this is a completely different beast we are talking about. This is a fixed aperture lens, and at 859mm equivalent in FF: very good. It is not the same to a variable aperture lens. Variable aperture lenses contains a lot more of compromises and wishful specs. In today's world though; there are some variable aperture lenses that are pretty. pretty good (exceptions), but most lenses that have variable aperture are very good to up to 8x10 size; @ about 2 to 4 stops from the maximum aperture. So let's no compare apples and oranges.

Not to burst your bubble, but Ricoh, made a comment that means nothing. It just a polite, diplomatic way of saying we might or might not be thinking/doing anything about a FF. It will all depend. I do not think that Ricoh would specifically, take into consideration what some Pentax fans want, but guide themselves through a marketing statistical analysis trend, by the nitwits running the show.

3.5-5.6 an improvement? this is your typical kit lens aperture by any standards. and remember, lens specs, seldom are what they claim to be, specially with kit lenses.

Yes, nothing is confirmed. "under development" in business parlance is just a non confirmatory statement meaning we might or might not be thinking/doing anything about it.

Please, tell me: is there any APC-S camera, Pentax or otherwise, that has a viewfinder that closely match a FF/Medium Format film camera? To me this is my major concern, because, I want to be able to see through the viewfinder the same way I do with my film cameras, e.g., LX, Norita 66, PZ-1 (I do not yet own a digital camera). So far every digital camera (APC-S) I have played with at the big retail stores leave a lot to desire in comparison to my film cameras viewfinder. Moreover, I used my film cameras almost exclusively for portraiture (I really like that big shallow depth of field)), and family group pictures where I need to be able to visually see all details without having to guess, because the viewfinder is too dark/image too small, etc. I figure what good is a little bit of better dynamic range and resolution, if I am mostly printing at 4X6 and 8X10.

I never left film (Pentax), so recently, I decided to get into digital. Since I am not willing to get APC S size viewfnders, I decided for FF. Since Photokina was around the corner, I decided to wait in the event Ricoh would come out with a FF Pentax, as so many hoped for, alas, it looks like I always suspected: no FF; therefore my money is going into the new Nikon FF 750 system as soon as it is available.

Pentax should make a FF because I want one. I do not care about this or that in or against it. I do not need to have a specific reason other than I want one, period.

Pentax LX shutter stuck in the cocked position

@ FrankC: Thanks for your input. That was the first thing I checked with my tester. It was completely dead on arrival (one 3V). I took two 1.5V (they tested at at 1.4v) from one of my other cameras to try, and the metering system is working fine now, but the shutter release is still stuck. The shutter curtain is closed, the mirror is down, the camera is not on automatic. Looks like a have a problem.

@ grhazelton: Thanks for your input. The shutter is closed, the mirror is not raised. The cell (3V) was bad, but I changed it for two 1.5 v and the metering system is working fine. I tried the shutter dial on the auto position and on every other shutter speed including bulb, but not to avail. I will call Eric tomorrow.

Well, too good to be true, I just posted a help in the General Technical Troubleshooting. I received the Pentax LX camera today, and the shutter is stuck in the cocked position, consequently, the rapid lever will not advance. The little red dot indicating that the shutter is cocked is on. but when I press the shutter it does not do anything (it depresses but it does not trips the shutter). If anyone knows of something I can try to do to un-stuck it, I'll try it. Anyway tomorrow I will give a call to Eric Hendrickson; if this is something too expensive to repair, I would ask for a refund through e-bay. I already notified the seller of my intentions.

I received today a Pentax LX that I bought through an e-bay auction. I received it with the shutter stuck in the cocked position, and of course ,the rapid lever will not advance: How do I fix this problem. Are there any tricks I could try too see if it would un-stick or, this is something that a professional will have to take care of?

I would like to keep it, but if repairing it would be too much, i would return it. Any inputs?

Thanks

Oh my god, oh my god!!! I will be in trouble. Over the weekend I was just lurking around the E-Bay auctions and decided to fool around on a LX with winder and zoom lens thinking that since, normally, something like that goes into the $300-500's; there was no way for me to win; so I started to bid on it just a few minutes before the auction was to finish, thinking that someone was going to up-bid me like it always happens when I really want something. All of the sudden right before my eyes the auction ended, and I was the winner:(

For the total of $216.00. I had to pay-up for fooling around like a dumb kid. I hope it is in working conditions (that would be a steal). I always wanted one, anyway;). The thing is...Just a few hours before, I had bought what was suppose to be my "latest" the Chinon CE-4s I posted about (see my previous my latest post). Now when my wife sees a package containing a camera, and later, another package containing another camera...uh..oh!!

I never left film, as a matter of fact, I do not own a digital camera. Every time I have the opportunity to play with a digital one, while I am at one of the big stores that sells them, I get disappointed with their viewfinder, so small, no too bright in comparison to my film cameras, plus they feel too bulky.

I have not hold one digital camera that would make me feel like it belongs with me. Ironically, the only ones I have not play with are the Pentax ones, since big retail chains do not carry Pentax D-SLRs. By the look of it, the K-3 looks ergonomically like a possible match for me, but I would have to find a store in South Florida that sells it to try it.

@ Kayaker-J: If you see my post about the CE-4s. you'll see that I keep buying them since the shutter release get stuck. Finally I took one apart, and then another, and another. After all these years, these cameras have no lubrication at all. any lubrication is dry. Nonetheless, i tried to fix one...what I end-up doing was loosing a spring inside the camera, and then same thing happened with another one. now I have two of them missing that particular spring. I will follow advice and get a professional to clean and lubricate them. I also have a Chinon CM-4s. So far it is working.
I always carry one of these cameras with me on a daily bases to capture anything that interest me on my way to/from work. They are so unobtrusive, with a bright big viewfinder that makes it so easy to quickly grab anything on the fly while manually focusing.
