like the title says.....can this be done? I have the adapter and cables to connect the camera via the HDMI output on the K-5 (and I know that works because I tried it on my tv) to the micro USB plug that goes to the tablet....basically I CAN connect the camera to the tablwet physically....

I dont care about tethering to the camera, I only care about using it as an external monitor. seeing as it doesn't have an articulating screen, this is why I want to use one.

Here is a small collection of pics I did when I first got this lens, this just shows the colors that this lens can pick up, there was very little done in terms of post processing(just a little trip I took to Universal Studios).......

well I have had my computer for two years now and have really never complained, until, that is, I was talking to a good friend of mine and he was asking what I have in my system for dealing with my workflow. I never really thought of it (I told him) but come to think of it, I would really like to speed things up. I was told that the Haswell chip in my computer was more than ample to run all my software. so I got to looking into it and decided to just put a card in and see just would happen,,,,,glad I finally did...

well I havent tried PS yet but can vouch for LR......I am impressed at the large difference in LR when it comes to speed, I barely have to wait for anything to happen in there now that this card is installed, ya some might say it is the placebo affect, but this improvement is very noticable......I do most of my workflow in LR and this is going to make life a lot easier for me. plus the fact that my whole computer is running blazingly fast (in my opinion....(and i dont know much about computers) is just icing on the cake......it's like having a new computer.....

Well folks I have searched and researched in here and other sites before making my move. I have read that LR and/or PS dont utilize the power of a graphics card and that they really make no difference. I broke down and bought one, just a run of the mill one basically a PNY Nvidia GeForce GTX-1050.....this card is only 2GB, but performs awesome...
now basically my whole computer works like it is on steroids! I have noticed things like my programs (apps for the young'uns) start a lot faster, images in LR come up faster, switching between library and develop mode is way quicker, but most of all? the rendering! yes that what I said! the rendering! is so much faster, now when I move a slider it is instant change! when I used to zoom in it took a while for it to clear up, now it takes mere fractions of a second! these programs may not make use of the GPU but I gotta tell ya......the computer will really appreciate you for it.
Specs......Intel I7, 12 gigs of ram, 1 TB HD, basically an HP computer I bought from Sams Club two years ago.....it has never given me any problems and has always ran pretty quick. I have pondered a graphics card, so glad I did finally get one.

Congrats on the K-5, I started my digital experience(after a long absence from photography because I originally didn't trust digital, and I didn't think it could ever come close to my ME-Super) with a K-X and after a year with that awesome entry level camera I upgraded to a K-5 (new at that time)Since then over the last 5~6 years this thing has performed like a tank, thus giving me no reason to upgrade, it even has made me some good money. I will most likely add a camera body like a K-3 or something. I have learned the trick is all in the glass you buy.....
One day soon I will have my ME-Super TLC'd and will dabble in shooting film for fun, but I agree with you Pentax has really shined when it comes to digital.....

Folks I just picked up this awesome lens from a fellow member here and got a chance to take it for a test run out at the local airbase here in Vegas. here are a couple of shots along with more to come. After drooling over this particular lens for over the last three years I finally got one at a good price, now I just cannot understand how I have made it this far without this beautiful chunk of glass.

K3 Zoom Lens Recommendation

I have used the 18-135 lens over the last 4 years. It is actually really good for an all around walk around lens. I have recently completed the zoom coverage with a 16~50, and a 50~135, along with Sigma 8~16 for some extra wide angle shots. I still keep the 18~135 on my camera for emergencies sake..... I just love the convenience and the IQ this lens provides...

What PP program should I use?

I have read all the posts in this thread and i find another missing option......
this option is usually my main work flow.
I am mostly a photographer (70%) and then i do some graphic design/photo manipulation (30%)
So my workflow starts in Lightroom, basically for the organization and for the fact that most of my PP can be handled in the "develope" section. I like how it makes several copies of my RAW files to separate locations on my machine, external HDs, etc.... when i do PP i usually dont have to save them anywhere when i am done for the day (however i can and usually do...back up my catalogue when i close LR)
When i need to export anything and for whatever reason, I can, without worrying what happens to the export because i can always create another export due to the fact that LR just preserves the original RAW files, and it saves the individual file instructions of whatever work i did on the photos. If you know LR, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. Before i finally discovered and learned LR I was just a mess, i had such an over cluttered system with copies upon redundant copies of my photos strewn all over my computer and external HDs, And they were mostly JPEGs of different compression sizes. Now i can instantly and easily access any given image i want now that i understand LR. The better i get at PP I find myself going back to images in the beginning (my novice years) and redoing images from back then, And what is great about that is the fact the the old files are still RAW files, like they are fresh out of the camera.
Also part of my workflow is when i feel i want to do something creative graphically, or some sort of photo manipulation, i have a stand alone Photoshop CS6 (not cloud)that i can put to use via Lightroom. All i gotta do is right click a photo in LR and the menu has a selection of "edit in Photoshop", i click that and the image will open up in PS, it even gives me the option to render it in Ps or LR.
for my workflow this works perfect for me, however there is some serious learning curve to Ps and Lr, but once you learn it, it is awesome.

The choice is yours, I just felt like i needed to add that option in there as well seeing I noticed no mention was made of using Lr in conjunction with Ps........they compliment each other.

PS....I even use IlluIllustrator in that workflow occasionally

U definately will want to consider it, if that is the main range you shoot in, then it will pay off to have a lens that does just that...
i highly reccomend the 18-135 to anyone. I rarely need anything longer for a "walkabout" lens
