I always have a user mode I can quickly set to "dummy" mode, for when I give the camera to someone else to take a photo.

Perhaps this should be altered to exclude threads based on specific subjects (say, "birding") or geographic areas. Obviously it makes sense for the Kiwis to discuss it being relatively geographically isolated from everyone else, and I can see why birders may request a specific lens for birding in that thread. I can also see why you wouldn't want this talk cluttering up other general threads though. Maybe, Mark, you could suggest something to the other Mods and owner?

And of course you know I'm coming from an objective viewpoint as I don't have anything Pentax to buy or sell!

I've never photo'd cycling.

For side on I'd try panning at least a little to show wheel spinning, so I'd start somewhere around 1/100th and see what develops (pun intended). If that works try slower. Naturally you'll end up with a smaller aperture, but that doesn't matter as the background would be blurred by the panning hopefully. The more you practice the better at it you'll get.

For front on I would try and isolate a cyclist using f2.8, shutter maybe not below 1/1000? Again, trial and error. If you want a group to be in focus naturally a smaller aperture which you may have to make up for by a higher ISO or slower shutter.

For all these I'd be TAv mode.

You'll just have to experiment to see what results you like.

They let me stay, and I've Nikon and Canon cameras! As long as you don't call hockey "field hockey", and do call ice hockey "ice hockey", you'll be right. :D

You're doing it wrong!! :p
I can do 2 or 3 games a day and not have that problem. I can see maybe an eyecup would help though. I do leave my Thinktank rain cover eyecups on permanently, they stick out a bit more but aren't really padded much.
Do you shoot with both eyes open? If not, try it. It's better for your eyes and you see what's going on a bit with your eye that's not looking through the vf.

I'm now also a Canon user (as well as Pentax and Nikon), bought a G7X MkII. It's jacket-pocketable so is for the times I don't want a big camera.
It's arrived here in the office but I don;t have an SD card here

I think it's the first camera I've owned without a viewfinder, we'll see how that goes.

Yep I've dealt with him without problem. Bought a Sigma 1.4x TC for my crappy old really nice Pentax camera.

I think I remember that ford! We were in a Holden Commodore wagon, but saw it, but wasn't too sure if we should attempt it. Took it on an angle and all was good.

We did that recently too, a great trip, but you're sick of gravel road by the end of it! Some epic landscapes in there.

Yeah good timing, very satisfying getting a shot like that.

I change my lenses heaps and only wet clean the sensor about once a year max. Blower way more often though, even when I don't see it on my shots, I do it in case there's something there that may stick more in the future.

But that's a sports photo - can't do that with Pentax!!

Hope you got compensated accordingly for the pic. Even the local rags have a budget for that.

Nice, shame about the game. Luckily I was filling in playing for a tennis team, then out to dinner, so didn't get to watch much of it.

Crop your shot tighter, if you have the pixels left. Don't give your shots away - watermark the ones you're putting on FB and make them reasonably small.
