I know you said autofocus, but I really love my 85mm f1.8 SMC Takumar. Beautiful lens and it really isn't all that hard to nail the focus. I paid $275 for it. Just my $0.02

Years ago I picked up a Pentax Copipod. It was cool, stashes away in a nice leather container. I don't use it very often because 1) It seems it is only useful with a 50mm lens and 2) It takes a lot of maneuvering to get it to any size other than fully extended. I'd rather use a more conventional copy stand. I have used it a couple of times with a Pentax 100mm f4 A macro, but it starts to feel a bit top-heavy and I'm afraid it might topple over with its spindly legs , So I was wondering, what was the intended use of this stand? Is it really something more than just a novelty accessory or was there a wisdom to the specific extended dimensions of this devise?

My books are all related to nature travel. "Bird-finding Guide to Mexico" so I can do some planning when it's safe again to head out.

I used to teach nature photography to college kids (back in the film days). Tripods (solid one) were THE single item that most improved their photography. The only other things I recommended for the class were ND and polarizing filters.

I started with a Spotmatic F and a 50mm SMC Super Tak. Incredible camera! I recently added a black one to play with as well.

I'm sorry for the personal tragedy, but it isn't hard to see this for what it is worth. Her death likely won't stop many others. Like I'm sure most of you have witnessed, I've seen those jump over the barricade people in numerous areas, the get close to bison or bear photographers, and those people driving and photographing in traffic. Just as our current experience with people refusing to wear masks, large brained primates often have a short circuit when it comes to taking photos.

If you want to get a couple of nice, inexpensive, light-weight lenses there is nothing wrong with Pentax's 18-55 WR +55-200mm. They are inexpensive lenses and you can get both for about $180. You can subsitute the longer lens with the 55-300 (there are three versions of this lens, all great 1st cheapest, no Water Resistance, 2nd with WR, 3rd most expensive but the sharpest). The nice thing is if you are getting started you can start with these lenses, have a lot of fun, they are VERY light weight, and you can purchase more expensive lenses if and when you feel the need to up your game.

Being a little critical, it looks like your images could stand to be a little sharper. Even if you are using anti-shake, if you are hand holding you might want to up the ISO.

Thanks Y'all. While the Q7 worked okay, the best image was with the K3. It is a composite of one image exposed for Saturn and one for Jupiter |

Hello all.
If I get a clear sky tonight I think I'm going to see if I can get Saturn/Jupiter with my Q7 and/or K3 + 600mm f5.6 A+1.4 TC. With the Q7 that's approaching a 4000mm lens. I've done this before in the past, but never seem to nail it. I can see Jupiter's moon fine, but not much else. I know it is going to require some fine tuning in the field, but can anyone suggest a ballpark exposure? Or is a better approach to take a lot of underexposures and pool them together?
Thanks!

I just picked up a Spotmatic F to replace one that I owned years ago, but I understand the batteries are now hard to find. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

I think the description as an artsy yellow brick was what most people knew the camera as (and yes, there was a black version). I never heard anybody really say that they loved the camera. It didn't fit the hand well like other Pentax SLRs, the magic just wasn't there. I was thinking of it as a backup, but when I heard there wasn't much weight difference from an SLR I lost interest.

As a young kid, my first SLR was a Praticka FX. On it was a 50mm f2.8 Meyer-Optik Domiplan. I hated the camera and sold it to someone who was interested in the "Occupied USSR" stamped on it. But after seeing some of it's modern magic I just reobtained it, along with another Praticka body ($40 both), and compared it to my 50mm f1.4 SMC Takumar on a K5iis. To say the least, I was amazed at what I saw with the Domiplan. I gained a new level of respect for that ancient lens. Whereas the Takumar makes bubbles, the Domiplan makes balls. Very appealing. The images below went through no post processing.

I am in the process of selling a Movo Gimbal head. After getting a Tomahawk Promediagear for my ball head it's time to get rid of it.
