Hi Gidion,
That will be a pretty small and fast-focusing package. I've also used it on a Super A and manual focusing with one finger is great fun.
I just want to add to what Adam said, don't forget to remove the hood when you use the DA 40 on film cameras. ;)
Of course the FA 43 is another option for those with much larger pockets...
Have fun!

Does the top LCD display anything at all? It should display a small line (-) after you wind the advance lever.
You can also check if the viewfinder light works by pressing the small button on the side of the mount.
One more thing. On my second copy I have to lightly half-press the shutter button a few times (towards the back of the button) to start the light meter and make any numbers appear. I guess the electrical contact is not what it used to be :)

I had my K-5 for a little over a month now but this Sunday I was out in the scorching heat so after about 4 hours the mirror started flipping at the touch of various buttons. It wasn't as bad as in the videos posted here and turning the camera off and on pretty much solved it.
By the way, has anyone with a silver K-5 reported thid issue?

Haha, you're right. But I also voted No because I would like to see the Pentax name live on. I did buy a Samsung GX-20 two years ago because it was about half the price of the K20D and I own 3 Samsung branded lenses. I also own a very nice Ricoh XR-P and a couple of lenses so the name is not that important to me.
Maybe I voted No because this poll was started like some sort of alert. Like let's do this so maybe someone at Ricoh HQ will read it when they're deciding which name to use.

Let me be the second one to suggest the A 50 1.7
I think it's the best choice when it comes to price, ease of use and image quality. It was my first manual focus lens and I never regretted buying it. Hell, I don't regret buying the second one either. :)
Don't forget to check the marketplace here too.

WOW!
I got the Samsung version of this lens recently and I was wondering why I was getting 8 point star shaped lights in the background when shooting wide open. Since I use it most at its wide end, I guess f4 wasn't really wide open as I had thought so the 8 blades were closed a little.
This would also explain why this lens is reported to be sharpest at 12mm but what's the reason to do this? Why not let it be f3.5-4.0 or whatever? I don't think the PF would be much worse or a lot softer. So... vignetting? What else could it be? :)

The Zenitar seems to be a nice lens but it's designed for full-frame so on APS-C you'll lose the edges of the image which give pretty much the whole fisheye effect. The lensbaby looks to me like a fancy peephole. i guess you've seen the gallery on their website. Also, the lensbaby has a field of view of 160 degrees.
I don't know much about the Peleng, but the Samyang has 180 degree field of view with really nice results. You can get it from an ebay store in Poland at about double the price of the lensbaby.

Well, I have both. I got the Giottos as a bonus when I bought the camera and the lenspen about a year ago.
Since I bought the lenspen, which does a great job at cleaning the glass, I only use the Giottos blower in some occasions. That cleaning liquid is also quite good but the lenspen is always with me. The other stuff is not as portable if you only carry a bag and not a backpack. Also the graphite in the pen's cap wears off in time so it may only be good for about a year or so.
So you can go for a bigger blower and a lenspen but if you don't have any other cleaning tools, go for the kit. You'll definitely need a blower as well for dust specs that won't shake off the sensor.

Hi,
This is definitely the right forum! Plenty of us GX-20 users here. :)
Now, assuming you have the Adobe Camera Raw updated, you should be able to select a different Camera Profile in the Camera Calibration section after you open a DNG in Photoshop.
The Embedded profile may have more washed-out colors so try picking Adobe Standard or ACR.
I hope this helps.

That Pentax-A 70-200mm was the first tele-zoom I bought as well :)
And mine has fungus and scratches on the front element and it's still very good. You'll get very nice images at 200mm using the Macro (close focusing) function and it's already good at f4.
If the lens is in good condition I don't think you'll ever regret buying it. It's only cons are the weight and that the zoom / focus ring can be quite loose.
It doesn't have SMC (multicoating) so in some situations you'll see very low contrast in your images. I think a hood would help with this a lot.
I'm not sure about the price though. I payed less for mine but it was in bad shape.

Why do I have the feeling the TIPA awards are given just to boost sales? :) TIPA - TECHNICAL IMAGE PRESS ASSOCIATION - This year's awards
I looks to me like everyone got a piece of the pie. Even Sigma and Tamron got each an award.
I'm not saying that any of these products are bad or that they don't deserve the awards, just that it feels like 1st grade in school when everyone (or almost) got 1st prize.
I guess by now we're all used to seeing the blue TIPA badge on promo pictures and labels and I think it influences the buyers. At least in the sense that the product isn't total crap.
That being said, I own a Vanguard bag and I can't say the TIPA award badge didn't influence me in buying it. :)

Let me be the second one to suggest the A 50mm f1.7 :)
It was my first manual prime and I still love it. An Pentax-A lens will also be a lot easier to use because you only have to worry about focusing.
The A 50mm f1.7 is great at f2. Very sharp, great colors and bokeh. Very nice build quality too.
I love this lens so much that I ended up owning two. And I'm not ready to let go to either one. :)
Just a warning: You will be spoiled after using this lens!
You have to pay quite a lot to get similar IQ in a auto focus lens.

I'll join the hate group too.
And it's a shame, because I find the fact that you can sort images by the lens or camera used, quite brilliant and very useful. However the browsing through the images is absolutely terrible.
The site looks good indeed but it's such a pain to use that I rarely access it.
Any way we can let Pentax know about this? I'd love to be able to browse it normally and enjoy it. Maybe then I'll ever try to submit some pictures :P

Hi Eric, first of all I really liked your portfolio a lot.
Like Jussi said those 3 are your best choices. In theory there's also the MZ-3 (which is an MZ-5n with 1/4000 top speed) but those are quite rare and expensive.
Here's a topic I found very useful regarding these 3 SLRs: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-film-slr-discussion/44525-hands-co...6-vs-mz-s.html
Now, the choice between these 3 comes down to your needs and financial possibilities.
- The MZ-S is rather expensive but it has some nice features like 1/6000s shutter speed and exposure details imprinted on the top of the film, to name just a couple.
- The MZ-5n has a pentaprism and really nice classic controls, but only 1/2000s top shutter speed.
- The MZ-6 has a pentamirror instead of a pentaprism, 1/4000s top speed, and pretty useless presets. It's most important advantage is the ability to control the aperture from the body (for the other 2 you'll need lenses with aperture ring to control the aperture) which means you can fully use DA and FAJ lenses.
As far as I know none of these are weather sealed but the MZ-6 and MZ-5n are not that expensive to worry. I only own the MZ-6 for now but it's really nice. I was amazed how small and light it is, even with a grip and 4AA batteries. Quite silent too and has many nice features.
I also like it because I can fully use it with my DA40 limited lens. This is a nice small package and in my opinion a better option than an ME. It's lighter and you can use the autofocus of the FA lenses as well.
I'll probably end up buying an MZ-5n as well because I love the looks and controls so much. :)
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Andrei

Yeah, the FA35 is quite expensive brand new but it seems to have a lower resale price. In Romania they go for about £220 and there's also an identical Samsung version which could go for less. I don't think a used DA35 limited can be found for this price.
Nevertheless the new DA35 f2.4 is a lot cheaper brand new and I think it's a very good option.
