Hi. I have just started a Group for Spain which can be used by Spanish people who would like to talk in their own language if they do not feel confident with English. Just wanted to pass this by some moderators to make sure there are no problems with the forums regulations.

All the best

Kevin

PS Obviously I will be keeping an eye on the content in Spanish to make sure is is acceptable.

K20d Firmware 1.03 !!!!!!!!!

Hi enoeske913895, It seems to corrected the problem on it's own. I think it was me who made the mistake. I put my foot in it with the flash, I did not have it on flash with red eye which engages the pre flash and the auto contrast control at the same time. The flash I have is the Pentax AF-360FGZ which I had on flash only not Flash+red eye this is why all the photos come out dark and was giving the camera the wrong aperture. What a way to mess up big time, just through one small configuration not thought of before hand. I have now spent 4 hours at home shooting objects at different f stops and cropping at 100% and to me the sharpness is a bit off but maybe that's me again!!. All the best. Kevin

Hi all. Seems as though this problem has been going on for ages and i did not know about it. I changed from 1:00 to 1:03 on Saturday went out to do a shoot for a village of 3.000 people and all the photos are crap, noise at 200 ISO, flash does not sync, focusing is way out, what am I going to tell 3.000 people:( I see that trying to go back to the 1.00 firmware does not help as the flash will not sync anymore. Does anyone know the answer to this? has there been a solution if anyone can help please, I will check back while packing my cases to move to another village:confused:

Hi. Have just downloaded the new 1:03 firmware for my K20D and the results are terrible, noise problems at 200 ISO focus is WAY out using the DA 16-50. I had to take some shots of a ceremony and no way can I hand this work in, god what a mess!. Has anyone else had this problem??. I am now looking for a way to get the old firmware 1:00 back into the camera again. Please reply if you have had problems or any way of sorting it. Thanks in Advance. Kevin

Hi WII. Sorry I can't help you on this one. I have thrown the manual for the flash in the bin which I think is the best place for it!. The pentax manual is just as crazy to read about flashes as it refers to so many cameras and not so much on the K20D which the manual was printed for:fedup:. If I work it out I will get back to you. Mind you, you think this flash is a pain, try the Canon Speedlite EX580 that will blow your head off hahahaha!!. Happy shooting. Kevin

I agree with you, they don't make them easy do they;). I will have to do some more tests but I think I have it now, talk about a walk around the houses!!. One quick thing I have been trying to upload an image to my profile, it states in the forum 120 x 120 or 64 KB image size. I have tried down to 40 KB and an image size of 80 x 80 and it still comes up as Error image size failed?? any ideas. All the best. Kevin

Anway if anyone has the same set up and would like to stop me midway through my packet of cookies It would be a great help, take it easy all!!. Best regards. Kevin

Hi. Hope everyone is well. Can anyone give me some tricks tips on Taking sunsets over villages, sea etc and sunrises. I have read many people tale 3 shots and use HDR is it?? in adobe CS3. Most of my work has been indoors, weddings, Hotels etc but not shots directly at the sun and I am having a hell of a job when I thought it would be so simple!!. All the best. Kevin. PDHaving come over from Canon to pentax I am also having some issues on Counter lighting. Example. You are standing in a slightly dark room and to your left you have a window with bright sunlight coming in through it. With the canon I used the ae and the measured and took the shot but with my K20D it does not seem to be giving me the result!!

From Pentax to canon and back to Pentax

Hi , Howard. have just been trhough aall my emails and found this one from you a while ago!!. In the end I have bought the Pentax DA 16-50 smc which seems to be giving very nice results even in low light situations as has a nice range for studio and weddings etc and also the Pentax 55-300 which for the money well is oK nothing to jump up and down about:D. I want to try and get hold of some older pentax lenses 50mm for low light and not manual focus, I love focusing myself and a fan of "M" mode and not so much "P" mode although all the pro's I know who have been in the trade for 35 to 40 years all say use "P" mode and save yourself time in CS3 which is OK when shooting weddings and portraits as you obviously don't have time to play in manual mode. Anyway Howard all the very best. Kevin

Maspalomas is in Gran canarias as you know. I live in mainland Spain but the "Haze" is sometimes terrible take a look at the foreground in this chopper flight!!

You hit the nail on the head. OK I am not saying the lens is bad far from it, I have used it more and is good for the money it just lacks at the 300mm end but heh you pay for what you get we all know that, the 16-50 gives fantastic quality from 16 to 50 even on 100% crops which are crisp and clean, so don't get me wrond folks I'm not kicking the lens just making a few observations about the sample I have. All the best. Kevin

Hi Ic_toronto. many members have mentioned the 50mm 1.4 and the FA 31mm. I will have to have a look through the lens reports and see if I can find some shots taken with these, but I have the flash to get first. I am looking at a flash that goes well with the Pentax 16-50mm I just bought the other day. What I DON'T want is one like the Speedlite 580 EX II man what a headache of a flash!. All the best. Kevin

Hi Julian. Nice shots. As you say sometimes the haze can be a pain. You live where my Family live and they have been here to Inland Spain and say that is feels as if they are at home in San Diego!!. Just put up a few shots of some planes with the 55-300mm. I think I need to work on this lense a bit more. All the best. Kevin

Shots are in gallery

Hi Bruce. Nice shots. I think as you say i will have to try it out some more. The thing here in spain is that by law you have 14 days to return an item if you are not happy with it, but things like lenses or computers etc they are not happy about changing. My worry was that it was a bad copy, but as you say give it time. I am also jumping from canon back to Pentax and have to re adapt to things. Thanks for your help and posting these photos. All the best. Kevin. PS you must et a lot of Haze in your part of the world?.

And my planespotting is again 300mm ISO 100 1/350 at f5.8 (a little cropping - if I understand cropping correctly I used the cropping tool in LR and took about an inch off the borders - is that correct? = a little cropping?)
George[/QUOTE]

Hi George. My cropping is to say the least aggresive:lol:. I take the image into CS3 bring it up to 100% full size and crop direct from that, then bring the crop up to 100% sound bad but is shows a good or bad shot!!. I will post some shots I took of some planes the other day in my gallery this afternoon so you can have a look and see what you think. I use Adobe web loader to compress images before loading them into the pentax Gallery that way there should not be to much reduction in quality....I hope:lol:. All the best. Kevin

Hi. NO I am not that dissatisfied with it, I just think and am learning thanks to the effort and time put in by you and the other forum users that I need to: 1). use this lens more. 2). take into consideration the haze I have here. 3). Understand that the money I paid for it and the results are not that bad. All the best. Kevin

The aperture was f6.7 and was is Green mode I thought I would just let the camera do it's own thing!. I am buying this week a remote control to use and this could avoid any shake as well, good idea about the 2nd timer will try that later. I will post this afternoon a couple of shots I tok of planes taking off and you will se what i mean about distortion. I had the camera set on continuous shooting in "H" NOT "L" so would be good to get some feedback from you guys. hahhaha....the Nose on one of the portraits was with the Canon 5D and a canon 24/105 USM lens. What dull images that camera took compared to the Pentax although the G9 is a good little back up camera and has a great Macro. In Southern spain the haze from now untill let's say the end of september is terrible. It is like one of those films you see on the telly where a plane is landing and the guy is recording from the end of the runway and all you can see is the plane because everything else is just a big shimmer 40 to 43 O'c. Nice for the beach NO good fro the camera:D. All the very best and thanks for your help. Will post some pics from the 55-300 and also a few from the 16-50 this afternoon. Cheers. Kevin

Hola Julianactive. Nice shots. Not sure what part of the world you live in but you don't seem to have much haze etc. In Spain with the heat we have some very bad weather conditions for using the 300mm length and as others have said if you can see it the camera will pick it up. I think I will have to pick some clear days:lol:. All the best and thanks for posting your photos. Kevin
