I don't really like the photo. i can't find any sharpness to focus on. But is also isn't unsharp enough to become a nice abstract photo.

There is enough foreground interest, but it lacks the viewpoint. Going lower would emphesize the rocks and give you even more lead in the photo

What's with the pathetic tripod socket on cameras?

but for now the quikest thing you can do if you want to shoot in portrit mode, lock the plate in the way that if it sags, it will tighten even more. Then it wont get loos. You just have to recompose after the sagging

there are a few solution.

1 get a L-bracket (which won't work with the espod)

2 get a better tripod with better head. The Espod you have isn't that great. The K1 with almost any lens will be too heavy for it to work properly. I had one, but hated it with a passion, and got rid of it pretty quickly (and I used it with the K-7)

with how everything is going, I wonder if we will have enough capacity to power all electronic devices. So we might go back to analog.

Light meter variations among cameras

How did you do the test with the camera's? handheld?

the 2 modern camera's have zone metering, and like you said they do average the reading.
All the other camera's have center weighted metering. so slight other angle could give a total other reading. So for next step make sure they are on a tripod and really pointing at the same spot.

Any good reason to buy the 43mm when I already have the 40mm for my K1?

The only thing with the 40mm is that it has no aperture ring. So not usefull on older film cameras. So if you get the bug of getting into film photography, then the 43 would be the right choice.
