Used K-1 buyers buyers guide?

I got one of the ones with the mode-dial failure issue. I think it only affected a certain range of serial numbers so you could ask for that before purchasing.

Otherwise, buy from somewhere that has a warranty/exchange policy. KEH repaired mine at no additional cost to me, since they sold it as 'bargain' and still guarantee full functionality in that condition.

Question for people to who use both classic lenses *and* more modern AF lenses

The K1 is less pixel dense than your A6000, so it will be "easier" on old lenses in the center then the Sony (K1 cropped to APS-C is around 15MP). You may find some older lenses aren't stellar performers in the edges/corners at wider apertures once you are using a FF sensor, but depending on your framing and composition that often isn't an issue. I use several 'M' series lenses and love the images I get from them.

As was mentioned get hoods too. I've realized a possible reason some of my lenses seem really inconsistent is because none of my older lenses came with hoods and I was getting reduced contrast in more situations than I thought.

I think you're supposed to own Pentaxes in multiples of five. So you should either get rid of one or acquire four more...

It's worth noting that if you shoot a raw pixel-shift you can get better results. Pixel-shift images developed in Rawtherapee handle motion much better than the in-camera on my K1 (original).

I believe dark frame subtraction gets baked into the raw file.

Another one that does affect the raw file (size only) is pixel shift. In that case each exposure is stored separately as raw data in the same file and programs like Rawtherapee can extract the individual frames.

Then either a K80 or a lower end 35mm FF.

It's possible, but at the rate Pentax normally develops things it doesn't seem all that plausible.

K3III First Impressions and Compared to K5II

If it's anything like the K1 shutter button you'll get used to it and tend to prefer it pretty quick. Now when I use my K5IIs after just a couple weeks having the K1 the button feels stiff and unnecessarily hard to press.

I took a lot of accidental pictures the first couple days with the K1 (still do sometimes). Fortunately with digital those accidental exposures are free:)

Also wondering this. Probably doesn't hurt to enter regardless. I'm sure they'll verify eligibility at the end. Would be really disappointing to win the contest and then find out you weren't eligible though.

K7 shooting green pictures

I see used K7's pop up under $150 (USD) occasionally, if you really want another one, or an upgrade like a K5II(s) or K3 can be had for pretty reasonable prices on the used market too. Otherwise, you have a pretty good excuse for a shiny new K3-III :)

I agree that since it occasionally gets fixed by shaking that there is a loose/bad connection somewhere. I would personally source a newer replacement and attempt disassembly and repair myself (looking for obvious broken wires or bad solder spots), but there is a good chance it won't work at all after that.

The green is kind of a neat effect, but would probably be a gimmick after a couple shoots. It might still work OK for black and white conversions though, either way I would be looking for a replacement given how expensive the repair estimate was.

Related question: Is it safe to assume most people doing focus stacking are using macro rails and not the lens itself to adjust focus?

K-5IIs: Best practices for charging battery?I
Posted By SelrahCharleS

Just to add an anecdote on this I have two Pentax D-LI90s that came with used cameras I bought and they are both 10 years old according to what I believe is the date of manufacture printed on them. I found time between recharges acceptable using them with my K5IIs (slightly better than the two Wasabi batteries I bought), but when i got the the K-1 I was disappointed at having to recharge every day or two even on days I wasn't constantly fiddling with it. I bought a new Pentax branded one (marked 2021) and I get significantly longer life than the 10 year old and newish Wasabi batteries in the K-1.

The Wasabis were like $8 each when I got them though, compared to almost $50 for the Pentax branded one. I feel like the Pentax one was worth the money, and the Wasabi just stay in the bag as extra backups.

Thanks. Yeah I found everything fell together quite nicely in this shot. I wonder if it was a coincidence that car was parked next to those flowers, or if the owner did that intentionally.

---------- Post added 07-31-2021 at 07:48 PM ----------

It was a nice looking car and paintjob. To be honest I don't know the year and didn't talk to the owner so I'll shrug and says it is a '50s Chrysler:)
