The predestinated K-7 video lens

Sigma makes a 20mm f/1.8, not sure how good of a lens it is. I owned its 28mm cousin and it preformed very well.

What lens should Pentax make/remake?

I would love to see a remake of the K85mm f/1.8, preferably in a limited series, but I would settle for a DA* :p

Whoo-hoo, my SMC 200mm f2.5 just arrived!

This is probably my favorite lens of all time. I sold it to buy the DA* 200mm and have regretted it in many ways. While the DA* is nice for the conveniences of auto aperture and focus, I believe the image quality of the K lens was superior to the new DA*. With accurate focus, this lens is amazingly sharp at f/2.5 (I definitely recommend a split image focusing screen with this one) and the colors and bokeh are amazing. Enjoy the lens....

What are the real gems in the A, M, K and Takumar series

IMO. some of the best Pentax lenses ever are the SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8, and the K 30mm f/2.8, 135mm f/2.5, and 200mm f/2.5. These have been my favorite lenses for many years, and are every bit as good, in some cases better than any of the lenses currently produced. There also built better than anything in later models, I have used many fine M and A lenses, but was never impressed by their build quality.

I couldn't agree more, I consider the 70mm as one of the best lens, if not the best, I have ever owned, and I have owned some of Pentax's finest over the last 18 years.

Which KA Lens do you like as much as your Ltd 77mm?

If you are looking for something comparable to the 77mm in a manual focus lens, really the only options are one of the 85mm, the A* 85 being the only one in the A series.

If you don't mind the Takumar or K series lenses, as opposed to the A series, there are some real gems that can be had for a very good price. My three favorite lenses are the K 30mm 2.8, 85mm 1.8 and 200mm 2.5. All are amazingly good and are as good or better than their modern equivelents.

Yes, and I could, as common practice on ebay, just boost the shipping costs, or add a handling fee to cover the costs of ebay and paypal. One of the reasons to sell on a forum such as this is, to save having to pay for the fees. Plus, I give the option of paying with a money order, that will save BOTH parties from unnecessary fees. It is your choice weather you pay, relatively large, Paypal fees or the small fee of a money order. Secondly, nothing I have done is against forum rules. I was up front about the price and all fees that you will pay. If you dont like it, just leave it alone, is it that hard?

I am selling this equipment to get as much of a return as I can, again, I am sorry if you do not like the prices. But as has been said, just because this is not a good deal for you, does not mean it is not a good deal for someone else. All this gear has been very well taken care of, and most come with additional accessories. It is not just a standard K10D you are buying. Add up the avearage price of used a K10D on ebay, The price of a KatzEye screen w/ the optional rule of thirds grid lines, the optech strap, and sandisk extreme III card... Looked like a pretty good deal to me when I added it up. And, I have no problems shipping overseas where they become an even better deal.

So like I asked, please, if you do not like a listing, and it does not break any forum rules, just press your back button and leave it alone.

Sorry if my listing has offended you,
Kevin

I have seen some purple fringe from this lens, however it is not nearly as bad, or as common, as the Photozone review would have you believe. The only time I have ever seen it is when there is a harsh contrast transition and the highlights are blown out, which is something most lenses would also do. I should also mention, that I have not seen any signs of purple fringe with the lens stopped down to f/4 or smaller, so it seems that this is just an occurrence when shooting wide open.

It appears to be the same lens as the Kiron/Lestar A Dine 105mm f/2.8 Macro. If it is the same optically, it is an amazingly good macro lens. Which is said to have the same optical formula as the Series 1 105mm f/2.5.

Heres a picture of the Kiron.

Help me spend some money on some glass

If you like primes, and do not mind manual lenses, the K 30mm/2.8, 85mm/1.8, and 200mm/2.5 are IMO some of the best glass Pentax has ever made, mechanically and optically. You might even get lucky and be able to pick up all three on your budget. That being said, I have recently sold all of my older glass and "upgraded" to the DA* lenses, simply for the modern conveniences. They are great lenses, but I do miss my K glass. Hopefully the rest of the DA* primes are coming soon, as I like primes much more than zooms...

Thanks for the test. I have been contemplating on buying a 1.4x converter, and putting off getting the 300mm for now. From the pictures, there does not appear to be a whole lot of a difference.

I recently made a similar choice between the DA* and the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8, which I have owned before. And decided to get the 50-135mm. It is a much better lens than the Sigma... So, my suggestion is to buy the DA* 200mm to make up for the lack of reach..

are SMC FA 77mm F1.8 Limited and SMC DA 70mm F2.4 AL in the same league?

Both lenses are some of the best you can buy, period. There are pros and cons to each lens. Personally, my favorite is the DA 70mm. The 70mm is an excellent all purpose tele, that is reasonably fast, SHARP straight from max aperture all the way across the frame. The 77mm is also an excellent tele, it is faster than the 70mm, but also not quite as sharp at small apertures. Some argue that the 77mm has better bokeh than the 70, but in my use of both lenses, I do not find that to be the whole truth. Where the 77mm has its advantages is in the very shallow DOF that the 1.8 allows, thus apparently having better bokeh. Matching fstop to fstop, I find little difference in the way images are rendered.

It all boils down to what you want/need, if portraiture is your main use, the 77 may be the better choice due to its shallow DOF (not that the 70 is a slouch in this area), however the smaller size, quick shift focusing, and generally better overall image quality of the 70mm makes it my top pick.
