Pentax for my daughter

Thanks Mike - I actually picked one up in June for a good price. To be honest I do like a built-in flash for filling in but I don't think we'll ever see them again except on lower end models.

I'm super happy with my purchase - it arrives early next week so am keen to see what I got for my hard-earned 's - and my daughter was even a little bit excited about going to take some photographs with her dad - quite a moment for a teen! Perhaps she might have to use the K-1 while her dad uses the K-3 "just to see what it's like!" I sold my K5iis and 35mm 2.8 macro to fund some Limiteds for the K-1 and am regretful that I did. Not to worry - the K-3ii is coming and I'm keeping a keen eye out for a 35 2.8 macro...watch this space!

Thanks for all your suggestions...we have a winner!

I've ordered a 'Like New' K-3ii which my daughter can use when we go out together, and I'll obviously use it too. I paid a premium 524 for it from MPB. Reasons were: it's almost brand new, with everything including packaging etc, owner's manual, etc etc...

I wanted a body that would last, had 2 card slots, and was as new as possible. For my own amusement I looked at what 524 would get me new and that would be a Canon EOS 250D/ Nikon D5600 (both bodies only). It's quite amazing what one can get on the used market.

I know I could have picked up a K-70 but I had one once and am not keen on possible aperture block. Small chance I know, but still...

After all this, I hope she likes it!

I really like your photographs. I too enjoy the square format. How did you process them?

Fantastic!

Thanks for your thoughts. It does seem that the K-5 (in either ii or iis form) is indeed enough.

Thanks for all your thoughts. It's seems like there is a leaning towards the K3, and for good reasons. I believe that this is the way I'll go. I suppose it is just that little bit later on in terms of development than the K5ii. Much appreciated everyone!

Thanks but I am really looking at either a K3 or K5ii. I've not quite got on with the ergonomics of the KP, much as I would have liked, and my daughter was the same. I've had one and sold it and she prefers the deep grips of the aforementioned, even though she's quite petite!

Thanks for the idea.

I've had a K70 and want to avoid aperture block and so I sold it recently. She is an art student and has used my K-1 quite happily. Thing is, I only have the one body. I sold my K5iis a few months ago - more fool me - and she also used that happily without a flippy screen. My real conundrum is how much better the K3 will be for her, or will a K5ii be good enough? She doesn't need massive high ISO performance. She's very deliberate with her composition and doesn't crop all that much.

Hi folks,

I would like to buy another body for my 15 year old daughter. She's been spending a lot of time in her room over the past year and I'd like to get either a K3 or K5ii/s so we can go out together and spend some time not looking at a computer screen. I've seen a K5ii and a K3 for 239 and 349 respectively. Is the K5II enough or should I pony up and get a K3? I've got all the Limiteds (31,43,77) as well as Sigma 50mm macro which I think she'd like to use, as well as 28-105, 24-70, etc which would be fine on an apsc body. Not sure about whether the Fat Fifty would work on a K5II?

Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Jeff

I'd like to second this channel.

Simon Booth is a tonic for the soul and although he makes photographs with a 645 medium format camera, his teachings are applicable to all of us, no matter what we use.

At the end of a stressful day he is just a pleasure to watch. Even though we in the UK live on a small island(s) we have some stunningly beautiful landscapes, big and small.

Thanks Kevin B123 for linking to Simon's channel. I'm up the road from you, in Berkshire, and I think a trip up North is on the cards next year when hopefully this dratted pox has abated.

The K3 Mk3, tested by Amateur Photographer

It's as expected.

Mirrorless, Fuji, blah blah blah.

As has already been mentioned it is a superficial review and borders on ignorance.

I too have discontinued giving them any of my hard earned pounds.

You'd think any camera magazine would look for positives when new models are brought out in an ever-shrinking market.

Before long they will have to call themselves Amateur Mirrorless Photographer as they cannot see beyond that system. Their review of the Canon 90D referred to it as the last of its kind. Shame on them. I hope they continue to shed readers and then fold abruptly.

My K-1 will happily outlive them.

Metaphorically and literally...

I buy from them but I do not sell to them.

Their offers for used equipment are too low for my taste. Works in my favour when buying because of this...

I have always had excellent service from them in the UK.

Best Pentax Outfit for Landscapes?
Posted By Jeff
Replies: 55

I can't see why it wouldn't. In fact I've just picked up a used 'as new' condition Sigma 50 mm 2.8 macro which will do duty as both macro and landscape lens on my K-1... Macros are always very sharp and it baffles me as to why they are not used all the time for landscapes! There are some good examples on Flickr if you take the time to look them up. In short, use the 50mm macro - you'll be amazed at what a cheap prime macro will be able to render in your landscape photography!
