I'm actively looking for an argument, but I don't see much basis for one here :-)

They seem to continue the k3 ethos of fixed and rugged. I do understand people who think that is a bit underwhelming, so I do expect them to have something like wifi tethering to smartphone. We'll see!

You know, if they were smart they would use it creatively - let the assistant in the photo hold a big cut out unicorn or something (a Blade Runner reference, but it could be anything).

Now, I'm just counting the models blackheads.

Onboard flash is just a toy, so what's up with that comment?

Other than that, I understand your sentiments. But I'm also sure Ricoh know they can't release a camera which in many aspects would be a step back compared to previous models. The latest lenses indicate they are willing to take their time to engineer stuff with aims to compete at the top end. So .. besides the new viewfinder I expect some interesting feature we cannot see. Maybe they even eye a chance of stealing a couple of customers from the other brands, which are struggling themself.

If it is a new viewfinder and tuned AF-system. Well ... yeah, it will be a tough sell then.

I think it is safe to assume that as soon as the 85mm is out the door, the engineers will go for a weekend of heavy drinking and adultery in the back alleys of Tokyo, before they put their full attention to this projected WA, which will be in the same philosophy as the 50mm and 85mm.

Normhead! You have a link for that photo shot on the K-x? I didn't even know there is a best of ... on Flickr (but of course there is), now I am having a look at some 25 best of-lists. That inspired me to learn more about a city of nomads in Kazakhstan and the jewish community in Antwerp. And that is photography to me - I am just more interested in the world it captures and the stories it suggests than the corner sharpness of some lens.

Same for Jatrax. You have a name/link to that woman's photos. I'm just curious.

Yongnuo 660 fixable?

I have tried to trigger it in all possible ways (3), I can think off.

I'll just forget about it. It is in my nature to see if something can be fixed, and it is very easy to take apart and assemble again. Buying spare parts or having it fixed professionally doesn't make sense. And I think I better leave that capacitor alone.

I already have an 560 III and I guess I'll be better off just buying one more of those even if the 660 is more advanced and powerfull.

Thanks.

Hi

I just bought a yn560-tx flash controller and received a bonus YN660 with it - which seller informed me was defective.

True, it turns on and everything seems to work except it doesn't fire. I know it is not an expensive thing, but I can't help wondering if it is fixable. I already took it apart and there was a connector which seems loose, so I pushed it in place. But still no flash.

I suppose that is it... Unless one of you guys have a suggestion?

"3 way" binocular and monocular projects

I find these interesting. But what I find really interesting is watching the video from Ricoh and comparing it to the videos on K3 or K1. The video on the bino- and monoculars focuses on showing how they actually work and handle in the hands of the user, and then back this up by high quality photos and videos. It is, to me, quite engaging and inspirational - "oh, I could use that when ..."

The official videos Ricoh made about the K3 and K1 seem to be scripted by an engineer for another engineer. It focuses on what I will call tech fetischits qualities - what feels like half a min. of macro shots of buttons with water droplets, then images of sensor and motherboard and description of pixel shift techonology. We are to marvel at this technological marvel with its impressive datas. It doesn't engage me at all.

I am likely the odd one here. How do you feel about this?

Yes, I know. It just adds some revenue without much effort. And market studies probably doesn't suggest much of a market for making something better. I guess, when they were still messing around with the q format, they could have used the internals for an action cam. I have a GoPro, I just would prefer something a little more substantial and camera-like.

Hey. It comes in a new colour too. Actually, even the wg50 was much the same. This category of camera seems to be given up by the makers. Pentax do many odd experiments, I would like them to make a fixed lens action cam with more focus on iq (and why not tethering to your phone). But it there's only me ...

Oh... I have actually had coffee in that building in Ginza without realizing there was a public showroom. It must be a very expensive address, it is on a busy street among all the luxury brands' flagship stores. I did visit the Shinjuku showroom, which is located in a business setting, as a tourist I had to search for it - it is not something you just walk by.

" Photos shot using any of the following cameras or lenses or a combination of both items are applicable for this contest."

So older cameras should be ok if you have one of the lenses currently for sale.

Personally, I think there are better ways to give your photos away.

That makes us two. The fact new K-new doesn't seem to come with an articulated screen gives some hope - a look at Pentax' previous efforts on the software front takes that hope away, perhaps.

I still think they have to do something novel, a few percents marginal gains in sensor performance and AF will not turn many heads these days.

Dude, you are way too pragmatic for this forum

I am with you, but market forces dictate bigger, faster - Pentax would have to bring something revolutionary to the table if they present a 28mp FF if they don't want to get covered in a pile of shit from tech sites. I suspect the majority of these camera reviewers don't do much photography besides shooting test images and therefore don't have to deal with the more practical realities. Now, the next FF model is most likely 2 or more years off in the future, so we'll have plenty of time to discuss this matter ha ha

I did not suggest a KP sized camera, I suggested a KP styled camera. Compared to the K3, the KP is 100 g lighter. I don't see why something similar can't be done to the K1, bringing it down to 850-900 g. I understand few of the regulars here in "news" would want it, but that's a different matter.

I shoot with the K3ii, and had to choose between that and the KP. I just understood from the (Japanese) salesman that the KP was more successful. "News"-regulars might not be as representative as you like to think.

I consider KP a generalist camera. It is actually why I suggest that.

They still sell the FA limiteds, don't they? But in any case, they need to make some FF primes pretty soon.

Nobody is even considering they might make KP FF? Take away a little bulk and make more of a street camera for the limiteds. Off load GPS, astro and stuff to the smartphone via app link. Style it to look less like the typical gear head camera.

As far as I can tell KP has been a hit for them (that was the message I got when I visited Japan last year).

To be honest, I would consider that a bolder move, and I would be more interested in that camera than in a 45MP beast. It is not a lack of MP holding my photography back.

I don't know anything about sensors, but in nature and in art blue has in fact a special status - for painters blue was exclusive and expensive, botanists have struggled growing blue tulips and roses etc. So maybe blue IS a difficult colour for the sensor for some reason ...

And what will you buy next year, then?

I agree that Pentax should have had a couple of new primes ready long time ago. On the other hand, it is possible to, you know, look at photos from quite a few years back and think they look kinda ok.

Edit: reading this again, it comes across as arrogant, which was not my intention. My point was just that no matter what you/we buy today, there will be something promising to be a little bit better tomorrow.

I have an K3II and haven't tried that app. I would need a flu card which have a poor rep and is not really available.

But, if they improved that app it would be a big plus for me.

---------- Post added 01-06-20 at 12:10 AM ----------

But yes, someone here showed me a guy using a Nikon app and I would love something similar. Now ... I wish I could find that video again.
