It seems extremely competitive to me:confused:

The best APS DSLR in the world fit the largest APS-DSLR lens line-up in the market and all K-mount lenses. Good enough for me.....

It is Canon style naming strategy. At least now we know who it is targeted at. However, it makes guessing the name of coming models less entertaining. We will have the K-1 III and maybe the K2 (FF) as well at some point.

It is a diffent format. For different users. A Nikon F5 costed more than a Pentax 6X7 - not to mention a Leica....

Huh???
The 31/1.8 Limited is so close in angle of view that you won't see much difference. The best part is that it is not a Sigma lens!

I suspect that name is reserved for the second FF body. The K-1 II replacement will be called K-1 III probably.....:)

Aaargh..that solved it :o :)

But there's no indication on the top panel that bracketing is engaged. The single frame shooting symbol is on. And isn't it supposed to take all images (5 in this case) when you press the shutter release in bracketing mode?

Yes, the camera behaves as if it was in some sort of program mode but the mode dial was set to M. Right now the camera will not let me set an aperture wider than F:3.5 in M mode in spite of the fact that it is it is a 2.8 lens.
The camera seems to work fine in other exposure modes as far as I can tell....

Just been out shooting auroras with my K-3. It was constant struggle. It kept changing shutter speed and/or aperture constantly in Manual(M) mode. Sometimes (more often than not) I was not allowed to choose a certain apertures (like larger than F:4 ) and/or not allowed to choose shutter speeds longer than 20s (30s is max manual shutter speed). After I had shot an image the camera would have changed shutter speed and/or aperture for the next exposure. I thought the whole idea with manual mode is that you set the shutter speed/aperture combination you want and that's it until you change it.
Have to use Bulb mode and the watch.
Is there some sort of weird custom function (can't find it) that cause this behaviour or is the camera bonkers?

Shot this 1.5 hours ago (and plenty of others)....

(The rather unfortunate red light at right corner is the landing light for the airport, It is behind a hill and not visible to me but it obviously light up the landscape surrounding it)

It has happened before. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I vividly remember that Pentax 11-point AF was identical to some Nikon model. I can't remember now which.....
It was alos said at the time that Nikon AF developers were former Pentax employees.

Who knows? But I cannot imagine how you can implement features like AF and SR without getting licenses from someone for at least parts of the system. You can't reinvent the wheel several times over.....

Did you already mention that the next APS-C will be called K-3 Mark III?

If the camera indeed is going to be named K-3 III, then it means Pentax have adopted a naming system like Canon's; ie EOS 5D MK 1,2,3...and Eos-1 etc. This means that the next K-1 will be the K-1 III. Since the K-3 series, provided this naming system is real, is the APS flagship, then there's room for another FF body below the K-1 series; the K-2.
I think Pentax should drop the K-name and adopt two different naming systems for their K-mount cameras; one for APS and one for FF so that you can tell what format is which easily from the name.

The MZ-D did not use the MZ-S as form factor. It was the other way around. The MZ-S was developed from the MZ-D to get some value out of the cancelled DSLR project. What digital technology was not available for Pentax? If Pentax had released the MZ-D, that incidentally performed far better then the Contax, it would have been state of the art for its time. I don't see what sport (the sport photographer market is minuscule anyway) have to do with this, but Pentax had several long telephotos available at the time like the 250-600/5.6, 600/4 and 300/2.8.

Not uncommon for japanese companies. Somewhat like Accuphase (Accuphase Laboratory, Inc.). They make high end audio gear. They are concerned about the tactile feel and haptics of their products (among other things). They have 80 employees. Hallf of them engineers. They make 20 something components a day. Doesn't matter how much they sell - if something proves popular the customer just have to wait. About half their marked is in Japan. They are not present in all markets globally; quite few in fact. In some market they apparently don't want to sell much; ie it is the only product I know of where it cost 50% more in the US than in Norway in spite of 25% VAT tax in the latter country....

Actually, the Pentax engineers thought the MZ-D was madness. Fortunately the marketing people came to their senses but not until the production line was ready. Contax actually asked Pentax for help for their version, but Pentax declined. I believe the ill fated Contax 645 also helped to kill off the Contax brand....
