pinholecam = basic camera = a basic guy trying to make photos using the basic skills and gear he has

Unfortunately, I have used this same name on all other forums, Whatsapp and facebook without realizing that the layman/women does not know what a pin hole camera is.
Or rather, they think they know..... :D
A camera that can be placed in a pin hole to spy on others or some other shady photography.... :D

Indeed....
I think there is too much emphasis on the technical qualities of a lens nowadays since its so easy to "prove one is better" as a photographer because one has the sharper lens.

In the end in real use, portability, plays a very important part of whether a photo gets shot (at least for me)

M20/4 isn't the best lens for edge sharpness, but combined with how I commute to the locations to take the photos (ie. cycling), its the most perfect lens

Pentax Mirrorless?

Most of the "performance" niches for MILC are already covered.
I think if Pentax wants a break out product, it will have to go for the "stylo" way.

Exactly ME super looking, APSC, together with the current DA ltds in silver.
Its a hit or miss, but if it manages to capture the attention of the mass market, it has potential to leap over the current declining enthusiast market.
The Ricoh Theta was exactly the same, people thought it was a waste of time, but in the end, it bypassed the "serious user" market and built a new reputation/niche for Ricoh.

Realistically, I've been using my Sony A7 since Nov-Dec 2013 as my ME super for K-mount lenses (gosh 6+ yrs already)
Looking back, despite its warts (and there are many), I have got to be grateful that it allowed me to use so many of my Pentax and other mount lenses over these years until the K1 came along.
Over this time, Pentax has slowed down its product releases and the market has also declined.
So I have low hopes Pentax will do a MILC (in the next 2 yrs at least)

How to convince Ricoh to crowdfund the Q macro lens?

I think practically, just get the K-mount adapter + out K-mount macro lens and be done with it.
The reason I think this way is that the CDAF is not going to work anyway (I've tried the 06 with close up adapter an AF is really sketchy).

Seeking mirrorless to use legacy glass on...

I have use m4/3 before and tried adapting my lenses on them.
The thing is that the 2x crop severely limits the versatility of the lenses.

Here are some examples of what happens :

UWA (eg. 12mm) - ok, provided one even has a legacy 12mm. Most likely at most its a legacy 15mm and thats not very wide with a 2x crop and not worth the hassle to bring/use over a modern option catered for m4/3.

28mm - becomes a 50mm in terms of usage/working distance. For one, 28mm are not the greatest in larger aperture and resolution. But the usage thats forced on it is that of a 50mm (ie. fast, sharp stopped down 1 stop)
So practically, the 28mm is not the best to become a 50mm equivalent.
All in, might as well just use a Panasonic 20/1.8 (or other m4/3 lens)

50mm - becomes a tight portrait lens. Ok.... but the higher pixel density of m4/3 isn't very flattering for old fast lenses. Usable, but might as well use a decent priced Oly45/1.8.

Short tele - becomes rather long to have a nearer working distance.

Don't bother for the smaller sensor options.
They are neither that much smaller, don't benefit for any of the AF and auto features with the manual lenses anyway, but loose that FF coverage for those legacy lenses.

I've been using the A7 (with Kolari thin filter mod) since launch (7yrs now) as Pentax did not have a FF camera at that time.
Its basically a FF manual camera used in Av or M mode for all my manual lenses (Pentax, Canon FD, ltm, M mount, Exatka, M42)
Nothing much to complain about nowadays about it.
Its cheap (esp if 2nd hand) , FF, not any bigger than most apsc milc options and works.
Focusing is easy with the peaking and magnification if necessary.
Just expect/treat it like an old film camera with manual focusing and it will work well for you.

Thomas Heaton Pentax lens kit...

Actually, I find nothing special in his kit that you mentioned.
Its just UWA zoom to telephoto zoom.
Thats like what most landscape/travel folks will have in their arsenal in one form or other.
Ok... maybe its harder to have similar due to the Pentax lineup.

The Zeiss 20mm you mentioned should be the Zeiss 21/2.8 distagon and thats a lens thats very good and a hard match optically for 20-21mm. (used to be available in PK mount)
The Canon 16-35/4 vII is also a great performer for edge performance (previous versions not so much).
Similarly, the Canon 70-200/4 is hard to rival, sharp and rather small in this FL range.

To get to as close to it for edge sharpness, really its going to be DFA 15-30/2.8, DFA24-70 and the new DFA70-210/4.
The Laowa 12/2.8 is rather small, fast, sharp, low distortion for a UWA too

However, imho, where the Pentax options may lose on edge sharpness, they often make up for with size and portability.
Most bloggers/internet personalities show you the nice stuff, but they don't say how darn back breaking it was hauling the stuff around (or that they had a crew or sherpa) :)

For me it would be a selection of lenses like the Laowa 12/2.8, M20/4, K28/3.5, FA31ltd, FA35/2, FA50/1.4; FA77ltd, FA135/2.8, S.Takumar 135/3.5 that will cover a 'like' focal length range.
Some are faster and no worse (if not better ) in stopped down IQ and often still smaller/lighter that the 3 above mentioned zooms.
(eg. Laowa 12, K28/3.5, FA50/1.4, FA135/2.8 );
Not to mention the option to leave most of them in the hotel since its dinner time and you only need 1 lens 'just in case'

from 135-200mm is the weak part in Pentax's lineup imo, if trying not to haul along a big/heavy f2.8 tele lens.
But this is really where that new DFA70-210/4 comes in

Look for a Meopta Flexaret, nicely done up "proper" TLR camera that isn't 'toy' but at rather cheap prices.
Many on ebay and often come CLA'ed

Yes, most sources will mention the Yashicamat, Mamiya, Minolta Autocords, but they are expensive due to the common mentions and really old, so most need servicing (usually at developed country prices) and harder to source for parts.

I thought so too, until I looked at what people have been doing with the Insta360 OneX for video.

Youtu.be

at 5.7k for the 360 video, its starting to be enough to use it to re-frame as 1080p video.

It gives the unique ability to capture myself and at the same time switch to other more interesting items along the way.
Before this, with a standard action camera, it will be stopping to switch/mount for different angles.

X-marks the spot by Pinholecam_01, on Flickr

I seldom get Explored.
In fact, I got more with my Sony A7 than my Pentax cameras. :D
Why?

I think it boils down to :
1. Audience size and in some ways brand loyalty (eg. Sony is bigger)
2. Friends (real ones who are willing to click that "like" button; so John_Dole who follows you but you never interact with will have a less chance to click than Mary_Jane who you often message with; once it gets enough within an amount of time, the flickr algo will take notice)

The Perfect UWA costs big money.
That said, the Samyang 14/2.8 is really proven.
If its for astro and landscapes, you just need to mark off the infinity point on the copy of the lens that you have. (the factory marking on the lens is not accurate)

Canon rumoured 75Mp FF Waow!

I'd rather use that 75mp divided into +2/0/-2 ev pixels for a 25mp shot that has that much wider DR.

I really like 24mp on my Sony A7 and to me, thats the ideal amount of pixels for most uses (printing up to A3 for me)
Easier on the technique (ie. shake), easier on lens weaknesses (eg. edge resolution), faster to process and store.
36mp on my K1 has been ok, with some advantage in resolution and chance to take advantage to downsize an image, but I do not think its as balanced as 24mp for all the aspects listed above.

75mp will just be ridiculous overkill for me and I will not willingly buy such a camera unless its the only option on the market.

Yeah, the battery is a big plus.
I'd reckon that 1hr battery like is probably doable with a power bank when most footage are going to be within 1-5mins each (and the 360camera goes into the bag during travel and gets plugged to the power bank)
But, yeah, with removable batteries, much less need of this discipline and hassle.

I'm looking for a better selfie stick.
The stock one retracts in a short while on my bicycle with all the jiggling around.
A better bicycle mounting solution over my current hose clamps would be good too.

I'm a bit concerned for Ricoh/Pentax.
It seems like they are the pioneers, but are now missing this market segment. (ie. action 360 )

Just got a Insta360 One X and got to say that the stabalization is impressive and pretty much a game changer for cycling videos.
Before that, I'd have to stop and change the camera angle, but now its just 'shoot and compose later'

The only irony for me was that I'd always thought that I'd get a Ricoh Theta, but the early versions did not have the resolution for non-360 video, nor the stablization
