This is not about false advertising or any particular product. Its about cookies and mindless algorithms. The internet knows everything about everyone who uses it. When I say everything I mean right down to what you buy to eat and what brand of paper you buy to wipe your butt with. Its not personal or because the net cares its just what it does in pursuit of profit. I have been shopping for and researching binoculars. I learned about the huge amount of counterfeit products for sale online. Trying to learn more I did a search for "fake Zeiss binoculars." Soon after the ads for "Fake Zeiss binoculars up to 70% off started." The algorithm didn't know or care. I replied to the recent post on Pentax forum asking about a hard case for Pentax binoculars. My reply contained a reference to "Plano hard cases available at Walmart online." Soon after I got an e-mail advertising shopping at Walmart online. Co- incidence ? Maybe, or advertising algorithm doing its job. Try doing a search for "Roadkill for sale", or "Herpes for sale" and odds are you will find them at up to 70% off.

I use "Plano" brand hard cases. Good latches, airtight with a closeable vent. Similar to "pelican" but much cheaper. They come in two sizes and can be found quickly at Walmart online.

Those things are brass and are prone to break. Your tripod may be set up to use a 3/8 or a 1/4 stud. Just check if the 1/4 sticking out of your tripod is 3/8 on its other end, it should just screw out. Rotate it 180, screw it back in and be 3/8 all the way.

Fungus can be killed with a UV light. Using one (cheap on ebay) does not risk the chance of overheating a lens with sun exposure. That being said I agree with krazycat and gator guy that its delamination. I have no idea how long it will take to get worse, you might get years of use out of the lens before its done. Perhaps someone else can advise on how fast delamination progresses.

No worry. If I slip the fence will catch me. (BTW I like the selfie in the truck window.)

I too used the UV lamp sold on ebay. It quickly cleared up several Takumars for me. There are several power level lamps available on ebay but I found the 10 watt more than enough. It worked fast and in my opinion probably also killed any pesky fungus spores lurking in my Taks. I put foil on the lens as a reflector and set the lamp a couple inches in front of the lens to avoid heat transfer. A word of caution, the UV light has enough output to cause mild sunburn and to cause some eye discomfort, speaking from experience. I would suggest wearing sunglasses while setting up the lamp and lens, also keep others protected from the work in progress. The eye discomfort is much like a mild welder burn. Think of the lamp as a very small tanning bed.

Takumar hoods are made to be installed reversed. Just slip the hood on reversed and slip the lens cap on the threaded end of the hood. Felt ring inside the cap and the hood makes a friction fit.

You will need to take some extra batteries and SD cards. The cards do not need to be high speed.

I agree with blackcloudbrew about carefully checking the pictures. I bought a 60-250 listed as "mint" and got a lens with no hood or foot. I checked the listing and the hood and foot were not pictured. I wrongly assumed that "mint" meant as from factory. Seems that "mint and "excellent++++" mean nothing. Apart from this one incident I have done fine with items from Japan.

That lens is fun to use. Depending on your setup you might want to check out a " Telephoto Prism Lens Bracket" on EBay. It supports both camera and lens and gives a lot of adjustment to balance. Requires Arca Swiss clamp on your tripod.

I keep mine set on "auto" or the aperture ring set to the max aperture so the springs are not stored under tension.

You might want to read the reviews of the old 500 4.5. It is huge and heavy but works well after some practice and can be had at a good price. It will also scare away bystanders and small children.

I ordered the Kooka. It was cheap enough to take a chance it would be usable. Instead of PK mount I received a Cannon mount. The unit was so flimsy that had it been PK I would not have hung a lens on it. Another lesson learned.

I agree with Caliscouser 100%. I bought my HD 1.4 AW when they first came out and the price was ridiculous. I don't regret it, the features, focus and IQ make the sticker shock go away. At todays price you cant lose.

It switches automatically. Its good to check your battery level indicator occasionally. A few times it has switched unnoticed by me and left me with one dead and one near dead battery. All the while thinking I still had one fully charged. Time goes by fast when your having fun a long way from a charger.

Good photographs have a strong emotional impact. Why not take the picture and put it away for a time. A photograph with too much impact now might be a good historical record in a year or so. If its too strong then hit delete.

A very sweet collection and great finds on the S and the 1.2. A black S went for just under $800.00 on shopgoodwill last week, it looked like new.

I have had good luck buying from Japan with one exception. I bought a "mint" DA 60-250 and when it arrived found the foot and hood were not included.. On checking the photos found the parts were not shown. My mistake was assuming "mint" meant like factory new. Lesson, check photos carefully.

I devised a system. If there is an item I must have I tell my wife I have purchased it. If the resulting storm is not too great I quickly place the order. If the storm is too great I admit the order is not yet placed which calms the water. Use this system with caution.

I have a Duto (soft) filter which screws into filter threads and converts any lens to soft. This saves doing damage to a lens. The filter has small raised spots, almost like raindrops, on it.

All previous replies are good advice. You might find that a red or green light with a head mount will help with set up. The color lights will not mess with your night vision and the head mount will leave your hands free. I like the red. Just turn off before starting your exposure.
