Drum scanning services?

Hi,

Thanks for the discussion. Very interesting. Beyond resolution, which of course is a big part of this, my interest is also because I am loosing the battle against dust and the elusive flatness of the film. Granted, my scanner is a very old one but from what I've seen drum scanners are wet mounted forcing the image against the drum. From what I understand that helps with dust as well.
I recently bought a M-50 f4 macro lens. I will try to home brew a rig and see how it goes with the K5II or K-01

Thanks,

Drum scanning services?

Hello,

Just curious, any drum scanning service recommendation? I understand it is expensive and file size are HUGE but I'd like to consider it to see how far I can take a 35mm negative or a 6x6 image.

Thanks,
Ismael

We are all weird :)
I love seeing and using old lenses on DSLR or later gen film bodies, but I don't like to see A lenses or newer in older bodies despite knowing that they also work.
Yup, we are a bunch of weirdos! :)

When not to take a photo

That's very personal. For the same reason I did not take pictures of the hurricane 2 years ago while others went bonkers taking pictures and videos of crying people going thru a pile of rubble that was a house 24 hours earlier. Instead of a camera I chose to use a chainsaw and help the very little I could. Same with the earthquakes 2 months go. Just think of other ways to help.

I've had that issue before with a failing SD card. Try another card and check if it happens again.

My "accidentally" acquired Pentax ME

Hello,

Ok, bear with me. I was not looking for a Pentax ME. Honest. :)
As I have stated before, my M50 f1.7 is my all time favorite lens. It made me acquire the A version and the F version as well. Love that 50mm f1.7 formula. So I was looking for a possible second backup M50 f1.7. As a well kept secret they are still affordable. Usually around the $40 range for a good used copy. I was about to pull the trigger on one when I found this ebay listing for an ME body with the M50 f1.7. Let's just say I won the auction for $30 including shipping. So I thought I would get the lens and a tired body as a lens cap. Good deal. However...... well, take a look.

It came in this tired ever-ready cover

Inside was the ME with the 50f1.7 lens and a lens cover

the camera was dusty but it looked good expect for a ding at the top

While quite noticeable, the ding doesn't affect anything as far as I can tell

The inside looks very clean

Dust and debris in the focusing screen and some streaks in the mirror.

But the lens was in OUTSTANDING condition. Looks almost mint except for a speck or two of dust inside, not worth opening it up. A dust off on the outside was all it needed.
The body cleaned up very nicely and the mirror and focusing screen areas are like new!
But the best part? Fresh batteries and it works beautifully!

So I now have my backup M50mm f1.7! I did a quick test with it in the K100DS and it works great. And it has a great ME as a lens cover :)

Oh well, I guess I now need to take her out for a spin as well....

As for the ever-ready case, stay tuned for a just for fun restoration attempt.

Thanks,

In my little experience with aerial photography (only a couple of times and on small airplanes, not helicopters) you want your sharpest and fastest lens with the best hi ISO body you have. Vibration and motion blur are your biggest concerns, especially in a helicopter.
Hyperfocal focusing and go for it!

Hello,

I use a little pocket notebook where I take notes like camera, film, subject, shutter speed, aperture, lens etc. Here is an example. But the truth is that I always start very dedicated for the first few frames of each roll and then the notes get lousy and I just toss the notebook into the camera bag close to the end of the roll. :)

I am pretty sure it is a Hong Kong build. As far as I know all Japan built had the serial number on top. The metal top without the logo seems to be from late in the Hong Kong era. That's why I think yours may be either a replaced top cover, or maybe the bottom cover was replaced with an older one, hence the lower serial number. Bottom covers were (are) easily damaged and could be prone to corrosion if left with a dead battery.
If only it could talk!

Hello and welcome to the forum!
That looks exactly like my original K1000, bought in 1989. But my serial number is 84xxx. From the database, it seems that was common for serial numbers 83xxx and 84xxx. Roughly around 1988-1990. Could it be that your unit was repaired and had the top cover replaced at some point?

Thanks,
