usedphotopro (Roberts Camera) has a pair of 50-135's in mint condition for $600 usd, with 10% off this week for black Friday. These appear to be new old stock. In fact it looks like Roberts is dropping Pentax and is clearing out their inventory. Lots of good deals if anyone is looking for a DA limited.

Looks like they taped the rear cap in place, just to make sure it stayed there.

The fact that the price has not been lowered is a good indicator that the K-1 is still selling well. But not having lenses ready to go is certainly reducing sales of those note yet released lenses. You cannot buy what is not offered for sale.

This could refer to a temporary reduction of line up, or it could be referring to the elimination of point and shoot cameras (which has been an ongoing process).

Or it could be just as you suggest...

The comment was about ACDESee not auto populating... unlike LR which does.

I checked today and their is a profile for all of my lenses, but I don't like the fact that I have to lick the lens from a drop down menu instead of it being automatically populated. My 55-300 was the only one that automatically populated for me.

I agree that it is less intuitive, but I may only think that because I am used to LR. My students seem to be finding their way around okay.

I purchased ACDSee pro 10 for my high school photography class this fall after considering a few options. For a school with a limited budget they were easy to work with and cut me a great deal on licenses to outfit an entire lab. ACDSee works a lot like light room. It has organizational tools, but I cannot speak to them as I do not use them in LR or ACDSee. There is no import process, which I really like for my class as students are working on community computers, not their own machines. Instead of storing edits in the catalog as LR does, ACD saves a companion file next the each image file which tracks your edits. The developing process and tools are very similar, but they do take some getting used to.

The specific gripes I have with ACD: Shadows and highlights are not in the 'basic' tab, which slows down my work flow. Also AFAIK, there is now way to mark photos as rejected and then delete all of the rejected photos at once. I use that feature all the time in LR.

This info is based on Pro10. ACDSee professional 2018 just came out, so I cannot speak to that.

I will have to check on lens profiles and get back to you. I am still using LR for my own work and most of my students are shooting Canon rebels, so I have not looked for Pentax lens profiles.

I do not see anything specific that states the stand alone version will never be updated, though we have assumed that for some time now. I see B&H is still selling stand alone LR6. I should probably upgrade form LR4 before 6 disappears.

I don't remember seeing the DFA Fish-Eye lens on the future road map. Has it been there all along, or was it added more recently?

Different strokes... I like my top LCD, and I prefer to leave the rear screen off except for image review.

Maybe even compacts are not quite dead yet...or maybe it is just an anomaly. Time will tell. I have actually been very surprised at the number of bridge cameras I have seen people shooting with in the past few months. I have no idea if they were new or not, but they are out there.

If you make use of the top LCD on your K-5, be aware that the KP does not have one.

Comparing various processing software

Some reviews I read made it sound like an LR replacement, but affinity's intro videos made me think it was more of a Photoshop replacement. Thanks for confirming.

I do not know what the educational prices are for adobe CC, but I do know my school currently has TWO licenses for it, and I have been told "good luck on getting any more." But I do have some "one time money" I can spend on software this year. On1 looks interesting, but pricey. RawTherapee looks interesting too, but the interface seems more complicated. That was my backup plane before I was told I could actually spend some money.

My goal is to find a program that can replace LR in my personal workflow as well, since it looks like there will not be an LR7 and I do not like the subscription model.

Thanks so much for the great advice.

For a program that is on sale for $60, that is a huge deal!

I have used LR for several years, but I am going to be teaching a high school photography class next fall, and LR is not in the budget. Additionally I am trying to prepare myself for LR going subscription only.

I have narrowed it down to Affinity photo, ACDSee pro10, and Corel aftershot pro3. The Corel interface looks the most like Lightroom, but the only reviews on B&H are pretty bad. It is also the most expensive. Affinity is the most economical, but the interface seems more complicated. Any thoughts on pure ease of use, and ease of learning?
