Backpack/bag insert for a 6x7?

Nice, so it now sounds reasonable that I got that much into the bag? I used it as my carry-on for a flight to the Dominican Republic and then left stuff I wasn't using in the hotel room. I wouldn't want to carry 18 lbs in a shoulder bag for much of any duration. That weight is better supported by a backpack.

Sourcing a rear element for an 8-element Super Tak 50/1.4

Have you seen the going rate for this lens right now? The only reason I was interested in the package in the first place was due to identifying the lens in the ad's photos. A friend of the seller had it listed as the elderly gentlemen isn't active with Facebook/Craigslist/eBay. She showed me everything during a FaceTime call, but it didn't cross either of our minds to remove the 50 from the body to inspect the rear element. The package was originally in Delaware, more than two hours away. Through a small network and sheer coincidence, the seller's friend had a co-worker at another facility who commutes to work from the town where I live. I don't think the seller was interested in trying to get everything back to Delaware through this network.

I'll see how the test roll comes back before deciding on investing any significant funds into this lens or a replacement. I just figured there had to be a damaged copy out there for a repair, even if it involved sending it to Eric.

I'll see what I can do from 1-12 and 28-30 June. I'll be gone for a training exercise in between. I'm taking a recently acquired P&S, Portra 800 and Tri-X 400 with me. I have a 90 and 200 I could play with on the K mount bodies and a 135 on M42.

I know theyíre cheaper and more common/readily available. No experience with any of the M42 lenses in use to know that any particular design is better than another. Iíve read the reviews on the seven- and eight element designs. I canít see how the optics wouldnít be impacted (likely negatively) by altering the formula with a rear element from another design.

I have an 8-element Super Tak 50/1.4 with a scratch on the rear element. Assuming a good one can be swapped for the scratched rear element, any suggestions on where to get this piece of glass? I would think damaged front elements or filter rings would be more common. I shot a test roll with a Spotmatic and the 50 today and will see if/how bad the scratch shows up.

Got a text that the owner was going to toss the whole kit in the trash and I could have it if I wanted it. Just picked it up and loaded a roll of Fujicolor 200 in it and got most of the way through it to test the light seals, etc. Looks to be an early Spotmatic and the light meter seems to be working. A good cleaning will do it some good. Thing is pretty smooth as is, but I'm sure some Eric love will make it even better.

Stopped by my in-laws' to pick up a book my daughter left there and they gave me a Canon Sure Shot Z135 with two fresh lithium batteries and two expired rolls of Kodak 400.

Bumping this as I just filled the bag for an upcoming trip to see how it holds everything - Pentax 6x7 with prism and WL finders, 55/4, 105/2.4, Pentax LX, MX, and ME Super, K28/3.5, K35/3.5, A50/1.4, 77 Limited, a couple of small hoods, nine rolls of 120, five rolls of 35mm plus two cameras have film in them, Sekonic 308, spare batteries, cable release and lens brush. Wouldn't say it's quite packed to the gills, but other than a lens longer than the 77 for the 35mm bodies, not much more I can think of that I'd want to bring.

Two beautiful images. I need to get some slow speed film for a trip to Europe next year. I really want to take the 6x7. Just not sure it's going to be in the cards with the weight/bulk.

Good to know, thanks.

Based on the camera's reaction after firing the shutter once or twice and then feeling the tail let go, I'm concerned I even got the frames I was hoping for out of this roll. We'll see. Can't go back and change the results now or recreate the light/scenes I shot yesterday. Learning has occurred.

All good ideas if there is a next time. I think Iíll just cut my losses on this roll and hope I get the 4-6 frames I took. Iíll probably expose the last few and see how many I get. Canít hurt anything to expose the backing paper on the tail end.

No idea, I was thinking it was just a matter of the number of shutter clicks and thumb advancements because the shutter will no longer fire after 10 exposures when the camera is set to 120 or 10, depending on year of production. One thing I'm curious about is whether or not the film advance will continue to function even if the shutter isn't released? I thought I read that somewhere to be very careful about putting a full stroke on the film advance lever after each shot and then, basically, don't touch the it again until after you fire the shutter and intent to advance it again as opposed to all of my 35mm bodies where once the shutter is cocked, the film advance lever won't advance until the shutter is fired.

That’s what I thought. I thought about backing the film up, but didn’t think about doing it by removing both spools, just that I wouldn’t be able to pull the film back off of the take up spool. Lesson learned. I need to figure out how to make sure it’s properly attached to the take-up spool. I had a 35mm roll that went about half way though the frame counter before it actually grabbed and started exposing film. Rewound it when the counter hit 35, but unknowingly left half the roll blank. Trying to avoid that with the cost of developing and scanning 120 when only getting 10 frames when things go right.

Pentax 6x7 loading question

On my first roll, the film advance lever had noticeably increased resistance once the frame counter advanced to frame one. On the second roll, I didn’t get that same tension. Concerned it wasn’t properly on the take-up spool, I opened the back in the dark to check it. Everything felt ok and with a very dim light for a very brief period of time, I visually checked for the start arrow and it was gone. After closing the back, it obviously had reset the counter and I had to go through a number of actuations on the advance lever. With the camera set up to “know” when it’s done with 10 or 20 frames based on the setting on the body, does the camera require an arbitrary number of frames each time the back is open to take up the leader? If so, should I plan on only getting 4-6 frames out of the roll?

Bummer to go pick up a kit at a good price to find the 8-element 50/1.4 has a bad scratch on the rear element towards the center of the glass. Ended up passing on the deal as that lens was the primary item I was after.

I like the idea of specific film. Iím open to trying new things. No single event is going to please everyone. We all have the choice to participate each month, or not. Letís get this thing started! I think I have four C-41 color stocks in 120 and 135, one roll of 35mm Velvia, and three different B&W flavors between 120 and 135.

I have Ektar in an MX and 6x7 and Tri-X 400 in the 645n @ 400 and in the LX pushed to 1600.

Planning to take Delta 3200 and Portra 400 for the 6x7 and a 35mm or two next week on vacation.

Lovely photo. It's a nice camera, pristine condition and serviced by Eric. Everything you need as a walk around camera to learn. Don't really need a Judas window or MLU...if she feels like that's something she wants in the future, I have a KX and MX.

I like it. Will likely force some of us who plan to but infrequently take notes to be more disciplined to keep track for posting in the correct thread. I also like the idea of each month’s images being posted to a single thread for consolidation and ease of seeing others’ results.

Not a typical Cinestill 800T subject for sure. Think it's a processing issue? It's it processed in a different cocktail than C-41? <- That's more for the post about the unacceptable/undesirable results. I'd really like to try Cinestill when I go to Europe next year and visit numerous cities. I think I've finally decided to just bring two or three small 35mm bodies and a few lenses rather than try to make the trip with a 6x7 or 645n. Still considering a 6x4.5 P&S like the Fujis.

Any idea what's behind the booth that might be causing that? Is there something back there? High rise with some dimly lit windows or reflected light from another source? Or it is actually some issue on the film?

Thanks. My eight year old daughter has her first roll of film in a KM and I've been looking for something decent, but inexpensive for her to use as she continues to learn the camera.

I've been sending it all out. I love the idea of home development. The time required to scan/edit is why I don't shoot digital in the first place.
