Such interesting work, would love to go to one of her workshops (not speaking Spanish and living on the other side of the world are minor hiccups).

Check out her 'What you didn't see' section for little insights/inspirations.

For us consumers, we're in a bit of a Golden Age where we can get so much established music and writing on Spotify and Kindle, but those artists and writers had made their cash already through conventional means.

It's the emerging talent that won't be able to earn a living through the miniscule royalties of today's arrangements.

For photographers, editorial work has dropped right off. The newspapers and magazines (including Sports Illustrated) all laying off their staff photographers, because it's easier to buy library pics from an agency subscription.

I'd say you're right.

In the meantime, Musk had to fight recently to keep his cronies on his own board.

I think you're actually looking at different stresses in the glass of your bus window, Chip.

As Sandy says, best to take off that filter in the same situation.

I don't think there's much you can do for the print media industry, Grog, and to be honest, there's not a helluva lot you can do for magazines in digital form either.

Not only have all their readerships dropped off a cliff, but the advertising (which would have been the majority of funding for many publications) has all gone to buying Google ads, likes on Twitter, etc.

Why would somebody buy the DFA28-105?

I have hiked with my K-S2, DFA 28-105 and DA12-24. Could have gone even lighter with the DA15 instead of the 12-24.

All really good lenses.

We can be proud in Pentax land. The Canon equivalent (24-105 f4) runs wider, but the extra 4mm and constant aperture compromises mean that it hasn't got a great reputation. I saw a YouTube video the other day of someone who argued it simply didn't deserve 'L' series status.

I really enjoy our 'kit' lens:

If I was a shareholder, I'd urge Musk to concentrate on Tesla actually showing profits, instead of slagging off at rescue efforts that don't need his interfering publicity stunts.

I think the Navy SEALs would have a suggestion as to where he could put his minisubmarine!

There was a 38cm gap where a person couldn't even fit through with an oxygen cylinder.

The boys were sedated and so weak they couldn't walk the bits above water, they were carried on stretchers.

Why would somebody buy the DFA28-105?

I tend to agree, 08amczb, that putting an f4 zoom or a superzoom on a expensive FF flagship instead of the pro f2.8 zooms just surrenders the advantage over APS-C. From a formal point of view, you're running on the same spot for all the extra cash you've put out.

But these are IQ compromises people are willing to take in order to carry the body/lenses package, and for a compromise, the DFA 28-105 is pretty amazing.

I've tested the Sigma 85mm f1.4 I got as an eBay purchase over the last couple of weekends (pics below) but it's huge and if I had to walk everywhere, it's going to be with my FA77 Limited. It can do most of that for much smaller, another amazing compromise.

You've got options, Robin. Setting aperture manually is one on pre-DA or DFA lenses is one, as you say.

$20 off eBay apparently gets the right kind of solenoid for you to replace the one that's below spec in your camera, if you have the soldering skills

There's a guy in the States who fixes 'em for a flat fee, $100 or similar.

Other than that, if you send it to Precision or KEH or whatever, they'll probably replace the entire aperture block, and price accordingly. At $300 or more that's possibly money better spent towards a newer body.

That's not what 'Hold' does, CJ.

Hold is the time threshold for triggering a large change in focus distance.

On a sports field a player may run across the one you're shooting and you don't want your focus lock to be broken.

Or you're panning your subject who goes behind a tree and out the other side.

Of course, the 16-50 (unlike the 17-70) can be converted to screwdrive for free if you have an older body that can access its config file in Debug mode.

Um, Larry, this site is privately owned, not affiliated with Pentax, and we are not Pentax employees, we are fellow owners like yourself. Your post reads like a complaint to the manager or something!

Anyway the official repairer in the United States is Precision. They have the contract for Sony, too. https://www.precisioncamera.com/pentax-camera-repair.html

Because the apples we eat are mutants (the originals were tiny, like what we used to call 'crab apples', grafting is the way to go, because any normal reproduction can just regress to earlier forms.

Expect the other primes in the series to be like that, Mlaird, unfortunately.

It will work on a K-50 with aperture block failure, BTW.

We already trust autopilot more than humans on passenger airliners (Airbus probably take it too far) and this is happening on the waves:
