Questions I looked around, but came up with more questions.

Hi,

I have the K-3ii now. I primarily use the kit lens.
If I get my daughter to sit for a second I'll use an FA 50 1.4.

How big and clunky is that kit lens on the K-1.
I would consider getting the K-1ii then sellling my K-3.

I would say 80 percent of our life is gopro only.
19.5 percent gopro in left hand, use the right to
snap an action shot for the yearly book.

0.5 percent portrait. 5 years ago it was exactly the opposite.

I know the light gathering on the K-1 is a squared term.
I have seen that as problematic sinice I had the *DST.

So an advantage there. I assume that advantage goes away
if I use the crop mode.

That kit lens seems super huge. That is why I will be putting my fixed SDM lens
for sale soon. I can't run and jump with it.

I'm not sure if I explained well.

My concern is I drop the bucks on the K-1ii and find out I use it once or twice a year for
birthday and spring photo shoot. Then the rest of the time it is a K-3.

Your thoughts?

I am not in a hurry to upgrade.

THANKS

I also assume I have to crop the flat 40 mm redline lens. Which makes it useless. I like using that one a lot.

People Radioactive not sure if 50 or 55

Check this out. This is the manual radioactive lens. I wear bifocal contacts so I have a lot of trouble focusing exactly. It could be even sharper. I removed the slight yellow tint.

Does anyone know what is the kind of lamp to use to remove the yellow? I almost got it all out but I broke the bulb and now I forget. Thanks.

This will be the magnetic calendar pic this year.

Has this happened to you? My wife donated my favorite (antique) radio!

That goodwill salary thing has been shown to be false (I am not sure how much they make though). What is not false is that my apartment burned down in 1985 and I was homeless and did not make much at all at the time and I called the red cross and asked if they could help me out and they said, "we really only help foreign people". The irony is we had this campaign at work to get 100 percent of people to give to charities and I had been giving to the red cross. That stopped and never again.

"saving money is like stealing from me"
"I targeted older men with no kids"
"I spend your whole check the day you get paid to make sure you don't have any money"

Yes. I know exactly what wives are like. I now have a life of freedom and joy.

Be happy you only lost your cherished radio.

Thanks! I did not break bones nor did I bleed out but I have things that need to be fixed. Next, allow me to explain the 10 seconds (no, I do not wait that long normally, I do not want to get shot). It is a huge intersection think 6 lanes plus a wide median. I'm in the left lane and the right lane runs out in about 500 feet. I'm in no hurry and I always let the people in the right lane zoom ahead. I do wait 3-4 seconds though normally, for the red light runners. The person to my right in an SUV to my surprise also decided to wait a couple seconds so I figure hey he's not in a hurry. I push on the gas, so does he. I'm still waiting for him to zip by me and merge over. We both proceed into the intersection (which again, is HUGE). This is now 8, 9 seconds without clearing the intersection and I'm a bit annoyed that he did not zoom ahead. I push on the gas (I think, not sure) he saw it coming and hit the brakes. I could not see because his SUV is 5 feet taller than me. Now it is 10 seconds. I see a flash of grill, blackness, a flash of guardrail, and more blackness. That person had to have had their foot to the floor a 1/4 mile back to run the red at 10 seconds. It should have been a reckless driving ticket not a redlight ticket. So no, I do not normally take 10 seconds to clear an intersection, this was an unusual day of circumstances.

MINI Countryman 2012 S with 30k miles (was crashed not that bad sat quite a while) not fully loaded but very well equipped also significantly discounted. Yes, I had to put $2400 into it in the first month. My POS Mazda was totaled by a maniac that ran a red light by TEN seconds. Double impact her car into my my side then straight into the guardrail dead stop head on. I mostly remember blackness and someone saying "level 3 trauma".

My sister gave me a Nikon D70s. It focused faster than my k-5iis. With made in Vietnam kit lens.

My *ist ds would not focus before the shot was gone. The k200 was a huge improvement.

I'm at k-3ii now it seems a lot has been improved since the *ist. Have the completion improved ? Dunno.

43 vs. 55

I do not know myself. I know she had a sigma that was $9000 and traded it in the Nikon was near $14000. Maybe it was $12000 used $14000 new. I forget honestly.

She always gets the " best one " so whatever that is that's it. I don't even remember the size 200 or 300 mm comes to mind but it is 5 inches around? And 8 inches long ?

I can't give better details. Her dad always bought her things like this ( I think the camera body was $8000) when she tells me about it my ears just hear the Charlie Brown teacher voice.

---------- Post added 07-24-16 at 05:52 PM ----------

Thank you zig !

I was more thinking I wanted to see how it does at the portrait level being kinda 85 mm. I'm encouraged to hear that you use yours for portraits and are happy. I have an HD 40. It's nice for carry around but I didn't like the portrait with it.

The 77 does exactly what I want. But you have to be so far back. The 31 is perfect for two people, full body, etc.

I want something in the middle. Something for 1/2 body shots outside as well as Santa, etc, inside.

I do not focus manually. I'm still temped to get the fa 43.

I need to get it in the mail very soon for the birthday portrait.

I shoot the 31 wide open for daughter portrait year after year. The 3D pop is worth the $800 I paid for it.

If you peeps find fault your eyes much better than mine.

43 vs. 55

Based on that last reply I will end up getting both. Soon. I guess the baby will get no formula this month. The 3D pop aspect of the 31 and 77 surpass my sisters $14000 Nikon lens.

I love Pentax and are biased. I wonder if that 77 is the best lens ever made.

Everyone has given fantastic info. As a side note I really wanted to get the DA* 85 1.4 but just too much right now.

I'm thinking the deciding factor I'd like to have a modern lens that is near the 85mm portrait by FF standards and see what it is like.

I'm certain it won't be the last lens I buy for myself ( or my daughter ).

I'm going to get the 55. I've read a lot of reviews on both as well (here and other places). I do plan to one day go FF but not before at least 3 years but probably 4-5. I have always gotten my lower, I hate to say quality it is all good, cost lenses to unfog (forget the rice method I got 2 lbs of silica gel) but there has been a time when I just took the plastic fantastic and if fogged on me and I lost part or all of the day.

I basically have enough to buy one, but not both.

FA 43 1.9 limited (the third amigo, i have the other two, and they perform beyond belief)
vs.
DA* 55 1.4 WR SDM

I was set to get the 43. Then I by accident saw some reviews of the 55:
* a "replacement" for the DA* 85 1.4 (not sure how that works out)
* sharpest lens I own (says a few people)
* super fast focusing (says some people)

I would use it for portraits. Although I do have these "standard" shots I take twice a year
with my daughter using the 31 and 77. They come out great. I would add some doing this
(I do use also the plastic fantastic 50). But I would take this lens out and about. The WR
part actually works out as I've had lenses fog up in very humid environments.

I like the idea of super fast focusing as well. I'd like to have a super nice nifty fifty albeit with
APC-C its more like a nifty eighty five.

I'm not trying to start at the end and make the data fit my answer mind you.
The reputation of the FA 31, 43, and 77 are legendary. I don't mind at all getting all three as part of my LBA.

But I can only get one and frankly the 55 is cheaper, its a more modern lens....etc

What do you think?

NICE! OK it came! If you can't tell I'm excited! I bought the e-book and have messed around with it for 20 minutes with the 18-135 WR. It is light years ahead of the K-5iiS. Just basically knowing NOTHING about it in 20 minutes I can say the focusing and the low light focusing and the performance is AMAZING.

Ricoh WG-30 bought "used" on amazon but it was still in all the plastic wrap and had the twist ties on it. I'm disappointed it happened. I had a failure of a Fuji XP80 that was my fault (failure to properly close the door securely) so after that I was always 300 percent careful. My main criteria (other than cost) was a wide angle FOV and being able to change batteries on the fly (as well as being waterproof). I also read that the GoPro is "professional" quality while others are just "user" quality.

OK no need to relpy now. I did some research and determined a slightly used Hero 3 bundle package with all the needed accessories optimized the buy for me. I did examine the Hero 3 and 3+. The Hero 4 was not in the budget. So this replaces the Ricoh WG model that sprung a leak after 5 uses.

I would like to get a GoPro. I noticed used the Hero 3 is in my budget.

I can not figure out if the battery is removable? That is important.

Are there other models I can consider?

I figure getting a used GoPro is a better idea than a new imitation GoPro (the ones on ebay
from china)

Try the FA 50 1.4. That's been my go to for inside family Santa even outside photos. The FA 77 is hard to use and you must be outside really. The 31 is nice. Bottom line if I was putting $800 into a family portrait lens go 31. But you can get the FA 50 1.4 for $200. It's a fantastic portrait lens.

Thanks for the advice on the flashes. I'm actually hoping the upgrade solves what I think but can't prove - my flash does not fire like I think it should.

I have the Pentax 200 and 360.

I figure I will just take the flash around now at least the 200 it is not that big. It's funny my best daylight fill flash shots are with an $80 Fuji XP 80. My Pentax has never done fill flash right.
