I have one of these and I think it's a treasure. My most used prime. Advise: get yourself a hood for this lens. A generic metal one is fine--they're only a few dollars on eBay.

Excellent suggestion. The Sigma 24mm f2.8 is an excellent lens. I use mine a LOT. A very useful focal length. It's very sharp. I paid less than $100 for mine.

Be careful where you breathe. Exhalation in the vicinity of your viewfinder will cause condensation, rendering it temporarily useless. I have trained myself to hold my breath when lining up the shot.

You can avoid that, I suppose, by using live view--but that will severely curtail battery life.

Operating the camera controls while gloved can be a challenge. Going glove-less, even for the short time it takes to set up, is even worse.

Eyesite affects manual focus

Your image may or may not be in focus when the focus indicator is lit. It probably isn't. In order for the focus indicator to be accurate you need to go into your camera's menu to "AF Fine Adjustment" and make whatever changes are necessary. It's a bit of a PITA, but well worth doing.

If you want the image to appear sharp when in focus, you'll probably need to adjust the focus screen shim. You'll find plenty of information about this procedure if you search this site. Also a PITA, but worth doing.

It's really not that complicated. You take the package to the post office and purchase the correct amount of postage. There's a simple form to fill out which will take 90 seconds. The clerk sticks the form onto the package and you're on your way.

You've chosen a good angle to take advantage of the light. My only suggestion would be to use a shorter focal length to show a bit more of the surroundings.

(Of course, I have no idea exactly what the surroundings are--you may have wisely chosen to crop out something unsightly).

Maybe you should convert your K-1 to a 'point & shoot'. Set your focal length to 28 and your lens to manual focus. Set the distance for 6 feet--use masking tape to keep it there. Aperture priority f8. Keep yourself placed 6 feet away from your target. Now you can literally point and shoot when the decisive moment arrives.

Good luck with your decision making. There are a lot of good cameras out there. I too find the Fuji products intriguing. It might help to mention the type of things you like to photograph.

Most used accessory or least used

Most used: Baseball cap

When the sun is low and sidelighting you can swing the brim around to block the light from your viewfinder. Once you're done viewfinding it can be used as a lens hood. And just before releasing the shutter I wave mine madly about in front of the lens to shoo away annoying insects.

Green button metering: do you or do you not

It's a starting point. My procedure, when shooting in "M" mode is:

green button => digital preview => view histogram => adjust shutter speed.

I very rarely have seen the green button exposure suggestion be 'correct' .
