I wondered about the effect of a closer crop for the same reason that Mike has said he likes the result. I think it does make the image a little more dramatic. Inevitably, of course, with a close-up/macro like this, it does make us more aware of the issue of depth of field, so now I am not so certain my idea was a good one.

Or maybe I am just too bloody picky??

Mike's reaction does re-inforce what I had in mind, though.........:confused::confused::confused::confused:??

Perception is such a subjective thing, isn't it???

Something quite different, and effective. Even a multi-point starburst. I like the light within the shadows of the bubbles.
Could you have zoomed in closer on the main bubbles, eaglem?

Nature Pale-Headed Rosella

Thanks Rob. Only planted that Grevillea two years ago, but boy, has it earned its' keep in terms of bird photography opps - Noisy and Little Friarbirds, Blue-faced Honeyeaters, Noisy Miner, Brown Honeyeater, Rainbow Lorikeets, Gray Fantail, Superb Fairy Wrens. And a pair of Double-barred Finches even built a nest in it!!
And yes, this Rosella is very skittish. I should try more often to switch to electronic shutter, as I have seen it stop and and take stock quite often at the click of the shutter.

Thanks, eaglem. Apparently they are endemic to North Eastern Australia - so you would not seem them on your side of the continent.

Thanks Des. I often leave the K3 iii with the 150-450mm monster mounted on my tripod in that doorway for just such opportunities, since commissioning the little native garden in my back yard.

Thanks David. It is a far less commonly seen bird compared to the ubiquitous rainbow lorikeet.

Thanks Mike. Towards the tail end of a winter afternoon, and the sun had just moments before disappeared behind a cloud.

Thanks everyone - glad you all enjoyed seeing this bird. I enjoy spotting it every time it comes to visit. On one or two occasions I have spotted a pair of them in this particular bush.

The bird really stands out beautifully here Terry, with the understated foreground colours and totally neutral background.
Was this taken at the WTB at Werribee?

Cross-Post.
This is probably the fourth image of this bird I have posted over the last 2-3 yrs, but I think it is a slightly better image than any of previous shots.

I spotted it through my kitchen window as it landed in the Grevillea. I had to slide open, as quietly as I could, a main sliding glass door, then a sliding security screen door, only 5 or 6 metres from the bird, before I could take the shots. My K3 iii was already sitting just inside the doors, on my tripod, with the 150-450mm mounted.

It allowed me only 5 shots before taking off.

When you tried to, as you say, "download" the files, do you mean via cable from camera to computer, or via wifi or bluetooth, or did you remove the card from the camera and place the card in you computer, either via an available card slot, or a USB SD card adapter?
If either of the last two, perhaps look at downloading an SD Card recovery program to see if you can recover the programs.

Question Missing Image from Gallery View
Posted By K2 to K50

Every now and then, a recent post which had previously shown in the Gallery View (
PentaxForums.comPhoto Sharing and GalleriesPost Your Photos!Gallery View) disappears from that view, while still appearing in the
PentaxForums.comPhoto Sharing and GalleriesPost Your Photos! view.
This is not a time expiration view, as posts made well before the missing post still appear in the gallery mosaic view.
The thread referred to above in Thread URL (if applicable) is a case in point. It had shown there originally, but now doesn't, even though older posts (including one of my own) are still there, in order of posting, as far as I can tell. Just wondering if there is some sort of glitch in the algorithm that collects the images?
A related issue that has had me curious in the past is that while threads with a single image are picked up and the image displayed, a thread that included 2 or more images never shows in this gallery view. Is there a problem that prevents, say, the first image in a thread being picked out and displayed?
Just curious.

"Macro" mode for negative scanning (Pentax-F 35-70 or Pentax-A 70-210)

I have an old manual late 1970's Pentax 50mm Macro lens (manual focus - which is fine for this use). I suspect you could find second-hand versions of this lens for around $350.00 or less. It is a very sharp lens, and would be a cheaper option than buying the current model 50mm or 100mm Pentax Macros (I do also have the current model Pentax F2.8 100mm Macro - incredibly sharp).

I used to use it for exactly what you are talking about here - copying slides. But I had (in fact, still have) a Pentax Bellows with a film/slide holder. Sometimes used a flash for lighting, sometimes outdoors pointing the set-up at a white sheet in direct sunlight.

Nice one, Tony!
When I first looked at it my immediate thought was "It is almost as orange as it is red". Then I read Mike's comment.
Whatever the colour, you have a very vibrant image, with nice sharp edges to the petals.
