Replace the K1000 with a KM and you have the original three Ks. My display shelf currently has the 1957 Asahi Pentax, the Pentax K with zebra lens and the S2 Super. Sometimes I get the K2 with a 50mm/f1.2 out as well - very pretty.

Nice Miranda. My first ever SLR was the Soligor TM, just a different name on the prism. I exchanged it after a year for a Pentax KM.

How did you become a Pentaxian ?

Same kind of beginning as Sandy but ten years earlier. My biology teacher in the late 60s taught us how to process and print monochrome, and he had a Spotmatic, which hooked me - it was very good-looking. It was around that time that I vowed that one day, I would have a Rolex, a Mercedes SL - and a Pentax! Fast-forward to 1975 and my first Pentax, a KM with a 55mm f1.8 lens; a beauty. It was stolen from my car a year later so I replaced it with a MX plus 50mm f1.7 which I then used for 30 years until the *istDS came along, in around 2006; then a K-5 and now a K-3II. I flirted with a Nikon once (F501) but didnít like it, and sold it. Iíve never sold a Pentax - indeed now I have a collection of more than 30 Pentax film cameras. Iím here to stay!

My most recent film camera to see the light of day (after a lengthy sleep in a box in the attic) is an S2 Super. The shutter still sounds pretty nice.

Indeed. All marks of K-3, or just mark 1?

EDIT: The OP appears to say any type of K-3.

Hi Peter, welcome to the forums from Hampshire. Beautiful little camera. I'd recommend Robin Gowing, who is Harrow Technical, the former UK Asahi Pentax agents. His website is Home - Pentax Camera Repair - Harrow Technical, where you will find email and phone contact information.

A new Underground station opened in London yesterday, Battersea Power Station (famous for the Pink Floyd floating pig), and one of the first people through the gates was the guy on the right, who seems to be sporting a K-1!

The granídaddy of all epic symphonies; Bruckner no. 8 in C minor in the performance by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in 1970, conducted by Jascha Horenstein. Epic.

Sounds like fun! Your biggest decision may be which top plate/serial number to use for the completed FrankenPentax.

Which Pentax has best high ISO image quality?

Image quality is not a camera feature alone ... the lens, the photographer and the technique play at least as big a part as the camera body does! In an ideal world you might assess a camera body itself (where you'd find attributes such as dynamic range, exposure and noise) but there's no image without a lens so that it has to form part of the equation. This then can affect parameters such as sharpness, contrast, tone reproduction, vignetting and distortion. So, a K-3 III with a basic kit lens might not perform as well as say a K-3 II or a KP with a Limited or star kens for lens-based pieces of image quality. Bring in the photographer and some software and then there are stacking and stitching techniques to reduce high ISO noise and increase mega-pixies - I like biz' idea of a VLF! A stitch of nine 24MP K-3 II shots with allowance for cropping individual images would still come in at way over 100MP.

Iím only just back into walking following a tumble over a tree root when I wasnít looking where I was going, and went down like a sack of potatoes on my left forearm. Didnít break anything fortunately (except my watch!) but itís taken a few months to get back to normal.

It was a very nice day when we did it in Feb 2018, the day before Cyclone Gita was due to hit. We were staying in a bach that was close to the exit point from the crossing at Lake Rotoaira. I kept expecting to see armies of orcs marching towards us! We thought about taking the side-track up Ngauruhoe but naaaaÖ
