the troll face was there for a reason ;), that nifty fifty is a really nice lens (and unbeatable for its price, which also is a nice bonus).

Agreed, I would NEVER put 50/1.8 on a K-3.

I officially nominate Tervete (Latvia) as the official capital of Pentax.
I was in Tervete Nature Park last Saturday, and besides my K3 I saw at least 3 other Pentaxes :O

Thanks! Good to know, perhaps I need to relax and enjoy the events (and avoid zooming while in the cloud of smoke :) )

Photographing drift / motorsports - lens protection

hi,
I'm a fan of 2 things - photo and drift, and I like to enjoy them both at the same time when possible.

during the last session I kind of got worried about the following: tire smoke, or to be more precise - zooming while being in the cloud of the smoke. I'm pumping the stuff in and out of the lens (external zoom). I'm not sure the weather sealing does much with particles of this size - I'm assuming, the tire smoke is a form of very, very fine [carbon] dust (soot, technically).

easiest, of course, is to wait for that breeze of wind that blows the stuff away, but it's not always that windy. any tips? avoiding zooming is one, perhaps the most effective. protective gear?.. has anyone had actual problems with the gear because of this or similar situation?

thanks in advance,
karro

it's the moments like these, when we can just start to grasp the mere idea about hociR's astonishingly devious plans..
the foil hat will not help! the brainwaves will enter your brain through the eye! and the foil hat will reflect them back! into your brain again!!

at times I wonder, is there really a cure? a salvation? is there a single hope left for the humanity? And.. I'm not so sure anymore.

about the fog lights - please use them when there's FOG! :D, and I mean "where exactly am I? Is this still a road?" sort of fog, not "it looks like a bit of a haze" type.
rear fog lights are bright, near the levels of brake lights bright, and they are annoying as [insert expletive here], if used any other time but during the thickest, densest fog imaginable.

UPD: just figured a good way to evaluate the necessity to turn on the rear fog lights - when the fog or snow, or rain is so heavy that you're getting blinded by your own high beams - that's probably a good time to use them :)

me being me, I did some research. on teh interwebs.
2 things are obvious:
1) apparently I'm a psychopath with myriads of deviations from The Norm, a candidate for institution, basically;
2) normal people are dull and boring. unless they hear voices; then they're cool :)

aaand yet another bump, with extra photos in the gallery: https://www.flickr.com/gp/44232831@N05/fZ000S/
55-300 can be used (but it's not easy at times, I admit) to snap some fairly fast paced action shots (this time - parallel drift gone a bit wrong).

no price drops, though, don't even ask. I might end up keeping the lens for myself.. I liked those pics :)

LX-D is dangerously close to LSD, and while I admit that the Pentax FF will cause about the same reaction in many, it's a thin line to walk.. LX-n? L-n? K-Fn? n - not necessarily "1", could be something else, 10, 100, 5, who knows.

LR is nice, if it wasn't for its @$@97(@$&( willingness to catalog everything.. there's only one other software that drives me similarly nuts, and it's Apple's iTunes. DxO OP for me, although I'm not always happy with the results

Pentax 55-300DAL

Asking Price
170.00 USD

Item Location
California (United States)

Item Description
Several items for sale:

Pentax 55-300 DA L, F/4-5.8 - $180170.
Front and rear caps, the box/paperwork has been recycled a long time ago, bought it 2011 from B&H. Excellent+ condition, no marks on the body, works fine, some tiny dust specks inside (not that I see any, but some may hide in there, it's been 4 years, after all)

Tamron 17-50/2.8 (IF) Aspherical, LD XR Di II SP - SOLD.
It's been with me for a year, comes from the B&H. There are two marks on the "golden ring" (see the pics), apart from that - like new. Front and rear caps, hood, box and paperwork. It had a tendency to underexpose by a stop or so, I sent it in for the warranty service - they cleaned it and replaced the aperture assembly, things got better, but still - sometimes it tends to underexpose. Never really fell in love with it, despite the sharpness and lightweight.

And, if really interested, you can talk me into selling my oldie but goldie K-x, it's a nice, little, relatively lightweight walkaround camera + kit lens, IMO, a good start for the kids - IQ is surprisingly good, low light capabilities - even better, and if they break it - it won't break parents' bank account. Not too eager to sell, actually, but 1) livE hociR and LBA demand sacrifices, 2) maybe it will see more usage somewhere else. 8Gb SD card + a set of eneloops (charged, mind you!). Since no one's selling the K-x for less than $170, I'm ramping the price UP :P, SOLD
lower than competition, still, because of some marks on the matte screen, I tried to get a speck of dust off, it turned out to be on the other side of the screen. about 13000 shutter activations (like new?)

Norm, it all depends on the white balance and exposure correction, as it seems :)
When I was there myself, I was surprised to find out, that the colors are there, alright, but they're not that bright and exaggerated as usually seen in the pictures, more pastel-y, if that's a word, at least in the lower Antelope.
As for this particular image - I underexposed by 1.5 stops, I liked the mood better this way; in reality it was lighter. as for the balance - pretty close to the real life.
