I'm still debating my choices for a focal length less than 43mm. I have quite a few options;
  • GRII/III

  • F28

  • FA28

  • FA24

  • FA20?

I currently own a KP and K-1, with the FA43 and FA77 being my main lenses. I have a SMC-A 24/2.8 for those times I need wider, but really (to not worry about focus) I am stopping down to around f8. I really want a wider angle lens with AF so that I can use F2.8, f3.5, even f4 effectively with some subject isolation.

I don't have a WR lens currently, I suppose I really should, therefore the WR 28-105 I should probably get.

I'm interested in seeing shots taken with this lens at it's widest open aperture, especially at the 28mm perspective, but really any length as well. Is 28@f3.5 really decently sharp? What's the bokeh like? Anyone done a portrait shot at this length?

Living in Australia, we don't get too much rain, and most of the events I shoot are indoors or if outdoors the odds favour sunshine. I can't remember the last time I needed/had to shoot outdoors with rain, so I worry investing in this lens is somewhat going to mean it sits redundant too much of the time, but perhaps not if the 28/3.5 aspect is pretty funky :lol:

Would love to see some sample shots with this lens! It's on sale currently, 3 days left to make a decision! Oh... and how do people find the size and bulk of the lens? Is it annoying or pretty decent?

TIA!

Bruce

I see good ol' Sandy did a test shot a 28/3.5 :)

And another by Sandy;

That looks pretty decent, sharp at 3.5 and even getting closer to the edges it's still decently sharp (and not just centre only).

And another;

Anyone shot people at 28mm with this lens?

My Tree

My LBA (Lens Buying Addiction) has been quite out of hand this year and as such we're too broke to afford a proper tree. Not to worry, spotted this little branch in my backyard, $13 for a can of silvery glitter spray, some $2.99 ikea LED lights, some baubles and voila!

Remote 3sec Cactus Bug?

Oh I thought by saying 'Remote mode' would be enough, like... it's a mode, in the same way you have a 'Timer mode' too. :confused: I did 'capitalise' the wording of the 'Remote' also to indicate that specific shooting mode. I just don't think of the Timer mode as being 'remote'. Anyway, I posted in their forums as suggested (copied and pasted my OP) and they seemed to understand ok (lol) and suggested I upgrade the firmware as this bug had been pointed out by another user and has now been addressed. Yay. (yet to actually upgrade firmware and test to confirm as been flat out busy but will do).

I was confused because I also did a double flash remote timer shot a few weeks back for a family shot and I had no trouble at all at that time, but then I recalled that I was triggering the 360II optically at the time without a V6ii(Rx) attached.

Android or Windows Flickr Album Synchronisation?

Yeah I have an iphone5s and can test that, it's just less than ideal, that's kinda manual syncing in a way, and there doesn't (annoyingly) seem to be an ability to download an album in one go, if it did that would be preferable as it might grab more than one file if what I have on the phone already is missing etc. In an ideal world when using the Flickr app you could download an entire album to the phone and if that image exists already it would prompt a skip and grab the ones you need 'syncing' or haven't gotten yet. Unfortunately it doesn't even do this, and I'm not gonna easily keep track of what images I'm missing from the flickr album on the phone. I would be better to email the image at the same time I upload it to flickr or something... urgh.

But yer right, I'm looking for a small portfolio of sorts that's full res to show to clients on either Android, iOS or Windows for those occasions internet is bad where we are.

Yeah it's just manually doing it I'm trying to avoid. Like I say thus far FlickFolio does the best, I mean it grabs the file when you're not even aware (once on wifi/phone charging etc), you get to specify exactly what album to sync with etc, it's just the file its grabbing is too low a size/res.

If I could do a step before sending the file to flickr that might send that image multiple places that might work (hence the LR>Flickr feature option intrigued me).

Remote 3sec Cactus Bug?

So I was practising some lighting shots yesterday with a two flash set up and came across what I believe to be a bug. I had the following set up;
  • K-1+V6ii(Tx)

  • RF60x

  • V6ii(Rx)+AF360FGZII

If I fired the shot in regular shooting mode (single frame) the flashes worked and all is good. If I fired the shot in Remote mode without a 3sec timer delay, all good, if I fired the shot Remote mode with 3sec timer then only the RF60x flash would fire, the V6ii(rx) with the AF360FGZII would not fire. It fired I think it's preflash but not the main flash. Tested numerous times, for some reason adding the 3sec option on the Remote shooting mode meant that it wouldn't fire both flashes, just the rf60x.

Manual Mode in camera, Manual mode or TTL on the v6ii made no difference I'm sure. As I said any other shooting mode it would work, just not with the 3 sec timer...

How to Print Accurately?

Thanks, that was helpful indeed.

I'm seeing a couple of recent images I have imported into LR saying PPI 445 or around that mark, so really I should set PPI to higher than 300 for that (if I were to print)? How do I know what my printer is capable of doing PPI wise? Is it just a case of going between two values (300 or 600, or with Epson 300/720?). I'm a little confused by the fact you seem to be able to put any value in that field, does it not make more sense for the PPI box to be a pull down menu with only a choice of 300 or 600 etc (or whatever your printer it can sense attached/selected is capable of)? :confused:

My Print Resolution was set to 300 PPI, but when I unticked this and checked Dimensions it says 445PPI (or something like that), should LR not have sensed I should need 600?

So just to clarify Clackers, the new GRIII, I essentially get all the same functionality with using a V6ii on the GRIII as I would if I had one attached to a K-1? Av mode for example and HSS support etc?

Cactus V6ii or Xpro-P compatible with GRII/III?

I've been researching 20-28mm lenses of late, but the thought of getting a GRII or the new GRIII is also an attractive option seeing as it puts out a 28mm equivalent focal length. That way I also get an additional camera to use that can also serve different purposes etc.

What I would like to know however is if a Cactus V6ii or the Godox Xpro-P trigger will work at all in triggering flashes when stuck on a GRII or the upcoming GRIII?

Anyone know?

Cheers,

Bruce

Yeah, I was kinda thinking perhaps a Windows Store app for the tablets like the Surface Go etc.

See... I used to take my Samsung Tab S2 (which is 8 inches with a nice high res screen) to show clients my portfolio etc, but it's screen is now cracked and I have since learned it's a ridiculously expensive fix (rip...).

After seeing the Mi Max 2 (which is almost 7 inch screen in a aspect ratio more favourable to photography vs the current trend of 18:9 etc), I was quite excited, because I might then just get that as my phone and also something to use to show potential clients my work.
The problem is that FlickFolio is too low res for pinch and zoom, it does everything else perfectly, but it feels like it's lacking an option to download full size...
But then even if it did, there might be the question of 'pinch and zoom lag', like... once I transferred one of my edited images (17mb jpg), and did pinch and zoom from within the stock Gallery app, it did take a second or so to 'sharpen' and render that pinch and zoom. I'm kinda saddened by that a little (<<< perfectionist :lol:).

So... now I'm feeling that perhaps I won't bother getting my own Mi Max 2, because after all it's very large as a phone, I'm currently using a iphone5c! hehe

But recently I went to our local retailers and had a look at the Surface Laptop and Surface Go, those screens are absolutely gorgeous. The thing that has really put me off the Surface Laptop is that fabric around the keyboard, it's a stain magnet! I've seen images of what that fabric looks like after a few months of use, yellow from sweat/oil stains (and sweat I will... I live in Australia after all!) not to mention any wine drop splashes etc... urgh... Honestly it got so many complaints I can't believe they released the version 2 still with that soft fabric crap... :mad:
But having said that, the screen of the Go is gorgeous, displaying the image full screen and you don't even need to pinch and zoom, you can see all the detail crispy sharp as is. So I was thinking this might be something I acquire in the future, but the problem still exists... how do I use PC 1 to upload an image to flickr, and get PC 2 to grab that image in it's full res glory and store on it's drive for offline use...

Prolly... :D

I wouldn't mind a little more depth explaining some of those processes as you seem to have lost me a little. I noticed for example that LR Library module has Flickr integration, that I have never used. I'm wondering if I need to make a LR catalog or collection and add my 'favourites' to that, and then some kind of syncing goes on between LR on the PC and LR on my phone/tablet/second windows machine...

:D
