cataract and dominant eye

I had cataract surgery to both eyes, one week apart this past April. My surgeon explained that my right eye, which was my dominant eye, will still be the dominant eye once both lenses have settled in.

You might want to clarify your concern with your surgeon.

My procedure and recovery has been a breeze. I joked with my surgeon, who’s also a good photographer, that my eyes have an increase in brightness of at least 3 stops and the colors now remind me of my days shooting with Kodachrome:)

Good luck!

I’m about to send Eric a lovely Asahi Pentax SP Black for CLA. He’s still doing great work and is very reasonable cost wise.

Ken,

Congrats on your 6x7. I’ve had several over the years.

Two comments. I would not discount usefulness of the wood grip and get rid of it right away. After using the camera for awhile, I think you’ll see the benefit of it.

Besides seals, the other area to be concerned with is your film advance gears. There’s a lot of pressure on this mechanism due to the size of film. I had Eric Hendrickson CLA my last two 6x7’s including lubricating all the gears. Dramatically improved smoothness of film advance. Something to consider.

Enjoy the camera. The images are stunning!

Cheers,
Ned

DA 15mm + 21mm or Ricoh GR II

I’d take the GR. For the past 4+yrs the only cameras I’ve taken on trips are the GR/GRII and my iPhone. The GR is so compact and perfect for travelling light, Plus you’re getting SLR-like image quality in a pocket-sized camera. Also, if you’re wandering around in a busy city, you won’t have a big camera bag to attract attention.

I just came back from Scotland. If you’re on Instagram, I created a hashtag #nedzscotland which has about 70 images from the trip if you’d like to see the type of images I shot with the GR.

Have a great trip, Scotland is wonderful!

Cheers,
Ned

As others have suggested, your problem could be the adapter.

I have two 35/f3.5’s and have tested them both with a genuine Pentax adapter on my K-5 IIs with no issues. Here’s a link to a few sample shots that I did recently. It’s actually a nice little lens. Hope you get yours working.

I forgot to include this link. Here’s the main reason you don’t want to subject the front element of a lovely Tak to heavy UV treatment or try to clean it...

Here are two posts on Instagram from AUG 17 showing my use of the Ikea lamp which works very well.

Also the rear element is the one that used thorium, so it’ll take you forever to shine light through the front element and the thorium fog will never be completely and evenly removed. Note in my photo the IKEA light is focusing directly on top of the rear element.

Hope this helps a little.

I gave up on the GRII's WiFi implementation...too wonky and unreliable for me.

I bought an Apple Lightning to SD Card camera reader and it works like a charm.

Although this is an old Instagram post, it highlights how I convert GR DNG files using Snapseed on my iPhone. Thought it might be of interest to you.

Hi Rondec,

Thanks. Yes, still shoot with the Ricoh GXR M mount and my 35mm Summicron...which still produces superb images.

I also put about 24 rolls of film a year through my 48 yr old M4 which I had totally overhauled by Kanto Camera Service in Japan a year ago.

But my main interest in the past few months (as evidenced by the Casual Photophile article) is shooting with the early Super Takumar gems:)

I've visited these forums for years, and really appreciate the very thorough lens database.

I recently wrote an article about the Takumar 50mm 1.4 for Casual Photophile that a few of you might enjoy:
