I totally agree with you on this...

Pentax-Ricoh have amazing products, but man, their marketing strategy for their cameras and lenses are very amateur or average and very very underwhelming. The sample images are like captured using a bridge camera or any other camera. The promotional materials and images doesn't have a professional quality which it shows no impact, no drama, no love, no life, and no passion.

How can Pentax-Ricoh attract and stimulate photographers, aspiring photographers, professional photographers, even inspiring current Pentaxians using mediocre and dull marketing strategies?

Zzz...

Will Pentax K-1 good for sports/wildlife? or Just a studio camera?

Pentax's cameras were build for outdoor and rugged use because of its tough build quality with its reliable weather sealing... BUT... From my observations on Pentax/Ricoh's video ads, they're focusing the camera for studio use?!? Just like when the Pentax K-3 got out on the market, the K-3's video ad is focused on indoor studio portrait with all its controlled lighting and environment.
Now, with the upcoming Pentax K-1, for sure it will be a great camera for sports/wildlife/adventure etc. but then, I suspect that its video ads will again just focus on indoor studio setup. I have nothing against studio setup, its just that Pentax cameras aren't marketed and promoted well for its awesome capabilities. The promotional materials lacks drama and passion.

Speculation on the Dials:
The lower right dial, it looks like it has a tiny display inside it which it's similar from the dial of Pentax MZ-S. I don't know, maybe I'm just seeing things... LOL!

Now, the other dial, let's take a look at what the modes are:
1) ISO - redundant with the ISO button, but maybe there's a new function for ISO settings?
2) CH/CL - Continuous High and Continuous Low?
3) BKT - of course, Bracketing
4) Grid - fast way to select grid style? If it is, I think it's overkill
5) SR - Shake Reduction or Super Resolution?
6) Crop - maybe settings from FF to 1.3x to 1.5x to 2x
7) WI-FI - Obviously.
8) - ? ? ?
9) +/- - Alternative control for EV?

Nah... For me, I hate to dig into the menu to access important features. External buttons and dials makes things more convenient when on the field..

Yeah, the display of the basics is important.. By the way, I love that they also placed an illumination button there. I hated the idea when you have to dig inside the menu just to turn on and off the backlight of the lcd panel.

Haha.. Yeah, island traveling is limiting. For me to reach the plant, I have to travel 6hrs-7hrs bus ride to the airport, ride a plane for more than an hour flight, and taking a bus ride again.. Island hopping.. hehe

The plant is in the Southern part of the Philippines, I live in the Northern part. But I do have a friend, also a die hard Pentaxian, who frequently visit the plant. I'll try to talk with him and see if he knows something.

D FA 24-70mm F2.8 ED SDM WR Officially Announced

They can make their own, but it would still end up being the same kind of lens, but a more expensive 24-70 lens. Why complain? This is a good lens and, finally, we have a 24-70 f/2.8 lens.

Pentax 6x7 MLU: Battery/Shutter/Mirror Problem. HELP!

Greetings fellow Pentaxians!

I just acquired a Pentax 6x7 MLU. It was given by a friend. The camera was stored and was not used for decades and acquired some dirt. Anyway, getting straight to the point, the camera won't work!
I installed a battery (which was stored in my room for a long period of time but I remember it wasn't used) and tried to battery check, there's no any light appearing. The battery bay is all clean, no corrosion. I loaded the camera with testing film, wind it, pressed the shutter button, but the mirror will just stucks half way and won't slap fully. In order for the mirror goes up all the way, I have to press the Shutter/Mirror Reset Button, then the mirror goes to Mirror Luck Up position, and will finally release when pressing the Shutter Button again. And I suspect that the Shutter Curtain does not open and close during that time.
This is the first time I use a Pentax 6x7, I read a downloaded its user manual and watched some Youtube videos on how to operate it, but the camera won't work. Anyone can help me with this?
Greatest thanks!

Regards,
Richard B.

As a photographer working in two kinds of fields, editorial and commercial, what I want and need are two different FF Pentax bodies: one for high megapixel and one for incredible low light performance...

Misc Film's not dead!

Apparently, film is dead here in our city, Baguio (there's no where to buy films), so I ordered at least 10 pieces of Kodak Ultima films online. Yes, a bit of panic buying. Hehehe.
The camera here is a Pentax SF7 autofocus film SLR camera, it's the very same model of my very first SLR camera, it is where I learned photography. Long ago, due to financial challenges, I sold my camera to a mass communication student, and since I have a guilt inside me, losing my first Pentax camera. Now, the guilt is gone, my passion in photography is kindled and grew more. Greatest thanks to fellow Pentaxian Mr. Bong Manayon for giving this camera as a gift, and it's in excellent condition!
Pentax cameras has always been by my side creating and capturing images...

how will FF improve your photography?

It won't improve your photography. The FF is another tool for your photography if you seek a shallower depth of field, to fully use your collection of FF Pentax glasses, and etc... Both FF and APS-C gives good results, both gives the artist an option for his/her creativity. It's not a battle of which is better.

I like it! I like it a lot!
It's great that they replaced the built-in flash with a built-in GPS.
As a working photographer who travels and runs a lot, the built-in flash on my K-7 is useless (for me) and I always accidentally open it, and with that I might accidentally break it. And whenever I go to my assignments and other travel shoots, I always use my iPhone's GPS to tag a place. This new built-in GPS is great! Highly recommended! :)

Nice!
Me too! Almost all of my lenses are for full frame...
My Pentax Lenses:
FA 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6
FA J 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6
A 35-105mm f/3.5
A 70-210mm f/4
A 28mm f/2.8
M 50mm f/1.4
M 85mm f/2
K 135mm f/2.5
DA-XS 40mm f/2.8 (Excited to use this on FF Pentax!)

My Non-Pentax Lenses:
Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8
Tokina 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8

But after I have a FF Pentax, I want to invest on the new Pentax D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 and the upcoming Pentax lenses, the 24-70mm and 15-30mm...

:)
