I feel bad for neglecting M club. It's just that DFA*85 has been almost glued to my K1ii, so I have had very little to share.

I think these bubbles look softer. Also angle view in these doesn't look as wide. But it's a great shot no matter which lens :D

Also these portraits are excellent. Sharp target with nice separation.

We had a nice autumn weather today and I took M50/1.7 for a spin. I haven't used it for a while. Such a nice lens.

Based on bokeh balls I would say 50/1.4. M120 bokeh is typically softer with less bubbles, I think :hmm:

X posted on M club.

I spent a day at Finnhorse national champion race with M*300 on my K1ii. I'm used to 1/1500 to freeze target even in faster sports, but this time it wasn't quite enough to produce tack sharp horses. Not a big issue and not visible in smaller size, but something to remember next time I shoot horses that go this fast. I shot both wide open and f5.6, but can't tell for certain which is which.

Yeah... well--- As you might have noticed I disappered in mid month. Didn't even do the selfie. Sorry about that. I have no excuse. Simply lost motivation when day after the day the shooting was the last thing on my mind and had to go with late night safeties. Windsurfing has taken a lot of my time lately. Whole summer to be exact. But I've also learned a lot during the summer. Not so much on the sailing skills, but a lot on how to tune up the gear for different conditions to get them going as fast as possible. It's like photography. Set everything up just right and you'll get sharp pictures.

Yashinon Tomioka 60mm f2.8 Macro Yashinon Tomioka is an excellent lens. This is no news to me, as I've shot this lens before in SIC and whole purchase was done after I had seen Pepperberry's work with same lens albeit with different brand name. Real 1:1 macro lets you go close enough. I think I haven't found a situation yet where I would've gone closer than what this can reach. It's sharp and has nice bokeh. What else one can hope for? Of course I would prefer PK mount, but with macro lens that is not so big issue as you can use flanged adapter which basically make it K mount in use thougth you loose infinity focus. With macro lens it's something I can accept in normal use. This month thougth I used traditional M42 to PK adapter.

Soft bokeh in close up work:

Sharp enough wide open to separate the target from backgroud on moderate distances:

Lens can do landscapes stopped down. Catching action on the other hand is more difficult, as you need to rely on your hand eye coordination:

Also cool OOF highlights:

Main reason to purchase this lens was to upgrade macro from M series lenses. As I don't do that much macro shooting I think this shall sercive my needs for a long time. ATM I see no reason to replace this with modern macro lens.

I haven't used KP, but based on what I've seen, I would try to find it instead of the choises you mention.

MTF chart supports my experience with the lens. Don't go beyond f8 and feel free to shoot wide open whenever you feel like it.

Yashica 60mm f2.8 Macro Yashinon Tomioka is a wonderful glass. Very sharp 1:1 macro with nice rendering. Pleasure to use. Work and windsurfing just steel my time and on too many days the shots are just quick snaps just before darkness. I'm afraid none of my shots so far is in any way meaningful outside the challenge.

I would guess that forum size limit is a thing of a past when connections were slower. Nowadays, it doesn't really matter much to the load times, how many shots there are per page and which size they are.

It was fun, but photography wasn't on my mind. I remembered to take few frames each day, but they are more like safeties.

With New Lenses Coming is K-1iii on the Horizon?

K1ii is still pretty impressive and for my vintage lenses it's more than I need. If I didn't have DFA*85, I wouldn't really miss much more. Basically what I want is the K3III AF and about 7fps. I will upgrade to K1iii at somepoint, but I won't promise to have money ready when it is released.

For those weak in faith; It will come when it's ready. No need to panic, if there is a year or two without news from Pentax :p

My lens last month didn't have switch. It had auto pin which I had to jam down to get the lens working. Therefore there were no quick shift from wide open to desired aperture. Basically you had to focus at aperture you desired to shoot.

CIF is very handy in shooting moving targets. Basically turns manual lens into semi-auto. Keep button down and try to follow target with focus.

Dark viewfinder when stopped down and lack of catch in focus. Preset lens helps the first this month.

My main complain on July was M42 mount, so logically for August I decided to choose an lens with M42 mount. Yashinon Tomioka 60/2.8 macro shall be my lens this month.

How large is local area? I have some lovely landscapes from road trip, but I fear they are too far from home. Just to play it safe I choose a portrait from one summer morning when we went for morning coffee in the main market square of Helsinki and ended up enjoying weather by sitting on the roof of an info building. Safely inside the fences, so nothing illegal in it.

It looks like my month ended few days too early. I had one miss earlier in the month and since perfect month was already broken I couldn't find motivation to even do safeties for the last days. But still finally got the Fujinon 55/1.8 thru the test. Photographically month was pretty good, cause I was out there to collect Finnish summer at it's best.

Lens is good. Sharp in focus, nice bokeh and transition. Some fringing and flare, but in most cases it works perfectly well. Really didn't have any issues with rendering during the month. All my complains center around M42 bayonet and made worse by being an auto lens. Auto function, which allow only wide open on cerrent bodies, was pretty easy to get rid off. Just press the pin hard enough and something cracks and it won't come up again. It just doesn't give that second smooth ring to control aperture that you find on preset lenses. Therefore occasionally it was hard to see thru the OVF when stopped down in darker conditions. This month was an other confirmation to that I really prefer the user experience from K mount lenses. Personally for my shooting style the lack of CIF is big issue. Especially when shooting sports.

All in all I don't see reason to keep this lens, thought it takes perfectly good images. I have plenty of more usable choises to go for. It might be hard to sell now that I have destroyed the auto pin, so if somebody would like to shoot a month with it, let me know. I can give it for free.

No reason to stay away. I believe that means I'm in. Lens is still a mystery.
