Kaptivating K-Mount Traveling K1000

I think we call the travelling K1000 lost. It would be nice if the last person who it was sent to would let us know if he never received it or if he did and what its status is. But there's been no word for months on it.

No dead DSLRs. Well, none Pentax because they don't die. But if you want dead Canon DSLRs, those come in with some regularity.

Hey, there have been a number of people asking if this has arrived. The thread indicates that the tracking shows it was delivered but we haven't heard anything. Can you give us a status update?

Pre-amp with DSLR Audio

No. I don't think so. My plan is to edit the uncompressed raw data and then dub it over. I'm more concerned about the recorded audio being loud enough for me to syn it well. That's been an issue so far. I do like having a quality DSLR audio track as a backup, though. I have, a few times, forgotten to record to the TasCam and had to re-do some videos. But that is my fault, not the TasCam's. And maybe I need to fly without a net.

Thank you. I missed that one. So maybe the issue is with the way the TasCams output.

Thank you, everyone, very much for the tips. I'm going to revise my setup and give it another go based on the feedback above.

Pre-amp with DSLR Audio

I'm looking for ways to improve the audio quality on my YouTube videos. One that occurred to me was to use a pre-amp between the mic and DSLR. I have two on-hand to choose from, a Tascam DR-60D MKII and a Tascam DR-70D. I tried using them with my K-3 and was not thrilled with the results. They seemed to output poorly to the camera and the audio quality was significantly reduced.

I suspect the issue was user error and not a problem with the pre-amp as they both work well when recording audio separately. One of the things I like about these is that I want to use them as a pre-amp so I can upgrade my YT video recording to an XLR ribbon mic (from a lapel condenser) and then record in-camera audio concurrently with uncompressed wav audio so that I can more easily align audio in post and get the editing benefits of uncompressed wav data (I used Soundbooth CS4 for audio editing.)

Does anyone have experience using a pre-amp in a home studio setting with Pentax DSLRs?

Item for Sale
Boneyard -- Free Parts and Repair Cameras you Cover Shipping

Asking Price
0.00 USD

Item Location
Bay Area, CA (United States)

Item Description
Hey, everyone,

Here's how the boneyard works. Each camera in here is free but the buyer covers shipping. If you're interested, send me the SNs for the cameras you'd like. First-come, first-served. Since these are parts-grade cameras, I'm not taking photos of them for the listing.

All of these are PARTS cameras (a couple of exceptions will note otherwise.) Where I know the issues, I'll detail them. I'll also detail what has been stripped off the cameras. Assume everything not listed as missing is present. Everything is as-is with no returns because these are parts.

Shipping -- all cameras ship in Priority Mail Flat Rate Boxes. So check the number of cameras you're interested in and you can calculate shipping from there.

1-5 cameras: Medium Flat Rate Box -- $13.60
6-12 cameras: Large Flat Rate Box -- $18.85
More than 12, let me know and I'll work out the lowest-cost shipping combination for you.

RED listings are spoken for, pending payment. When paid, they will be removed.

Listings:

Working set of Fotga Wireless Flash Controls. This includes 3 trancievers and four receivers. The receivers lack the hot shoe mount. The trancievers all need new batteries (I forget what size they take, but I bought the last round of batteries on Amazon; they use a non-standard size.) All work. This is a four-channel set. My wife gave me a Neewer setup with an integral hot shoe attachment and an umbrella hole for Christmas, so these are redundant.

Black Pentax ES SN 6534378. Great cosmetics, Eric indicates the board is shot and not repairable. Frame counter cover, battery cap, and rewind knob and lever/door release are missing

Pentax ME Super SN 3600957. Sub-par cosmetics with dings and dents. Eric indicated it would not be economical to repair it. Missing the motor and battery caps, film door release and rewind, and plastic advance detail.

Vivitar 35mm PNS SN 047456880. This is a little rangefinder. Excellent cosmetics, intact. Aperture and shutter operate out of sequence. Not sure if the meter works. Lens is a 40mm f/1.7 and, with some ingenuity, could be a fun lens for Q or Sony MILS camera users.

Canon FTb SN 384794. Light meter is non-responsive. Unsure if this is electrical or physical. Battery cap and film back release/rewind knob are missing.

Canon AV-1 SN 696535. Not 100% sure what's wrong with this one, but the focusing screen is a catastrophe. Missing the film back release/rewind knob and motor drive cover.

Canon AE-1 SN 1657076. Really rough cosmetics. I believe is has either an electronics or aperture linkage issue. Missing the film back release/rewind knob, motor drive cover, and film advance plastic bit. The battery cover is plastic and present, the film advance plastic bit is present, and the base plate is missing.

Canon AE-1 Program SN 2025288. Really rough cosmetics. Includes the battery cap, which is intact. Missing the film back release/rewind knob and motor drive cover. Mirror is locked up and appears to be an electronics issue.

Canon AE-1 Program SN 4354852. Better cosmetics, but missing the film back and two of the bottom plate screws. Missing the film back release/rewind knob. Shutter button is non-responsive. Unsure if this is mechanical or electrical.

Sony digital PnS DSC-T7. Untested because I don't have a batter or memory stick for it. May work, may not. If you want only this, I'll ship it via first class for $3.88 in the U.S.

Minolta SRT 101 SN 1348596. Missing the film rewind knob and post as well as the battery cap. Fires at the same shutter speed, sounds like about 1/60th, regardless of the shutter speed dial. Unsure of the meter functionality. Very good cosmetics except the bottom plate which is scratched and has a DL number in it.

Minolta SRT 101 SN 2158933. Missing the film rewind knob and post as well as the battery cap. Fires at the same shutter speed, sounds like about 1/60th, regardless of the shutter speed dial. Unsure of the meter functionality. Very good cosmetics.

Topcon Uni SN 54141636 and Topcon 53mm f/2 lens SN 54212879. Lens has some balsam separation around the edges of the front element and a few thin fungus tendrils. The camera's shutter does not fire when the shutter button is pressed but the film advance can be operated. Meter may work. Camera is complete.

Olympus OM-1 SN 562044. Missing the battery cap, motor drive cover, focusing screen, and film rewind. Also missing the ISO indicator. Prism has degradation along the bottom. Unable to test the meter. Solidly a donor parts camera.

Pentax Super Program 1163270. What's left has good cosmetics. Missing the battery cap, film rewind, film back, and grip. Great prism and focusing screen. I believe that it was unresponsive when batteries were installed.

BLACK Minolta SRT 101 SN 1854661. Missing the battery cap and film rewind. Great cosmetics. I believe that the flight meter is dead. Shutter speeds are accurate.

Olympus 50mm f/1.8 SN 2914029. Really slow aperture. Dirty lenses. No caps.

Konica Hexanon 40mm f/1.8. Lots of fungus. No caps. Aperture is good. Has AE lock on the aperture

Canon FD-mount 50mm f/1.8 S.C. Fungus. Aperture may have issues. Dirty lenses. No caps.

Sun Optics 38-90mm f/3.5 (appears to be a fixed aperture) in Olympus OM mount, SN 701528. Two scrathes on the front element, one is about 5 or 7 mm long, the other about 3mm. The longer one is slightly deeper. Otherwise A-okay. Includes caps.

CPC Phase 1 200mm f/3.3 SN 412942 in Pentax K Mount. Filthy optics, fungus, some large debris between the lenses that moves as the lens is moved. Everything else seems fine. No caps.

Dangit. I didn't even think to look at Cactus. I thought they were only flash triggers, not camera triggers.

Yes, for studio work like balloons and water drops, that's the plan. The project I'm thinking of with two cameras would be for sparring and board breaking, so the delay wouldn't be a killer. I would also set it up with a laser break trigger and put the laser a half inch above the board to get the camera to trigger as the board is breaking.

It would, but I'll be triggering them with a MIOPS unit set to trigger on a loud noise or laser beam disruption.

It never even occurred to me to use audio cable. That's a fantastic idea.

Basically some sort of galvanic isolation? I assume the concern is the grounds on the cameras having different potentials because they're different models with different on-board computers. That hadn't occurred to me (I assumed since they use the same batteries that the systems would all be the same.)

Would an in-line capacitor that passes AC and blocks DC do the trick?

I just picked up a Miops noise/laser/lightning/etc trigger to use with my K-1 on an upcoming shoot. I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a cable release splitter and extender for the Pentax Cable Release that would let me use my K-3 at the same time but from a different vantage point.
