How did the serial numbers work on these?
Mine is 1435019
Does that make it #5019 of the run?

Pentax 8x30/6.2 Monocular

I would like to figure out how to use it. Can't find instructions anywhere.
It has a 4-division reticle inside with each division having 10 divisions.
It appears that these may represent angles, with the outside edges being the full 6.2 degrees. But I could be wrong on that.

For a right triangle where the base length is known and a second angle is known, what is the formula for calculating the height.
I'd like to figure out how to use the reticle in that monocular. Can't find instructions anywhere.
Though I did find a user who spoke very highly of it.
This monocular thing
One nifty gizmo.

New Pentax Full Frame Gets 36MP Sensor?

It's not always about printing. It's about impressions.

Going back to the film days ...
There's a reason weddings were generally shot with a blad -- big neg, zeiss lenses. Tough to beat.
There's a reason studios would use the RB/RZ camerase.
There's a reason architectural photographers would use a 4x5, and not just for the movements.

Even in the digital world, irregardless of sensor ...
There's a reason people spend a lot of money on sharper lenses.

People want the sharpness both on paper and on screen.
It's what sells.
One need not be printing billboards to get the advantage of more pixels.

I'll gladly put a 4x5 or 8x10 contact or chrome against a ff dslr image.
Information (in the image) is everything.
And the impression given to the customer makes the sale.

Just a testimonial here. I have recently acquired later copies of the Tamron 24mm and 17mm (both have the window over the focus scale.
They perform quite well and I would recommend them.
Sure, you can do better. But at what price? These are a relative bargain -- good performance, low price.

Should anyone be concerned, the F and FA 50/1.7 lenses are optically identical.
Both are superb lenses. The F may have a slightly better build, but unless you are really hard on a lens it's not a big deal.
The FA series is better looking, imo. The F looks like something from Star Wars; the FA, Denmark. :-)

There are fantasies and there are realistic engineering targets.
5K for 80mp is not practical these days.
But things like a vertical format sensor are easily accomplished.
Ever use a Fuji 645? They are a joy for weddings and other times for shooting people.
After all, people are vertical creatures and all other (afaik) 645 cameras are horizontal frames.

I am hoping Ricoh does some *innovative* things with Pentax.
The K3 looks like a good start. Though given how long R&D takes it was probably present but needed funding for a good launch.

Now Pentax needs (as I see it)
#1 A pro support program
#2 Expand the lens lineup
#3 Fix the AF speed/accuracy issues
#4 A new an innovative product for the pro
In the past I wondered about turning the sensor vertical, like the Fuji GA/GS645.
#5 Take the 645 sensor and put it into a folder body like the GS645, or a p&s body like the GA645.
Make 40 mp quick and easy.
It may be an older sensor by today's standards, but the format and potential price point could be awesome.

Of course Ricoh/Pentax may never be "pro" with the small sensor.
Imnsho, any attempt to win second place will guarantee 3rd place at best.
Their sights are set too low. If you're going to play with the big boys you've got to play their game.
(I've been a Pentax shooter since 1980.)

How many of the current lens like have the new DC AF system?
Any talk of more?
It seems a good alternative to the screw and SDM.

I can recommend this camera: Yes

Value, Features, Performance & Size
I can't imagine a camera with a better price-performance ratio than this. What it will do for me at the price makes it an outstanding value. Excellent low-light performance.

Camera Review
This is my third Pentax DSLR. The first was the *istDS, followed by the K100D, and now this K-x. Each of them had its individual advantage. The DS produced the most striking direct jpg image, probably due to the sensor mask. The K100D seemed just a lateral move with trade-offs. But the K-x has proven to be a step beyond the other two, with advantages beyond megapixel count.
#1 The first strength that stood out to me was low-light performance. Though obviously surpassed by the K5 and K7, the K-x, at the price, handles shadow areas beautifully. Coupled with this highlight areas do not get washed out as they might have with the sensor/software on the DS.
#2 For my size of hand, the grip is excellent. Feel is important, even more so than people might at first think. A camera has to feel right to be most usable. If your had gets tired then the equipment is hard to use. This camera's design is very well-done. Pentax has succeeded nicely on this.
I could go on. Good battery life. Easy to use with K and M42 lenses. Behaves well in cold weather. Great sensor cleaning system. Just a great piece of engineering from Pentax.
