Will you sell your current camera when the new K comes?

No I will keep my K5iis and not purchase the new model. Reason is that I am shooting more medium and large format film and less digital. That and the K5iis is still a great camera. And should still have lots of life left in it.

My newest Pentax camera is a MX I bought on the makers place I think my 1980s Hasselblad gear as gone up since Ibought I a decade or so ago. I can not think of a. Single Pentax product that I am even interested in buying, maybe a M150 or the GPS system.

I only care that pentax continues to make hood and I teresting products and stay viable .

Abstract Some Zone Plate images on a K5iis

Actually f65 as that is the one aperture speed for the zone plate lens. If you are unaware of zone plates use Google. The lens is mounted into a Pentax lens cap and I use 45mm focal lens for the shake reduction.

The Journey from 'Chimping'

When I had a MZ5N and a K-r my problem was adjusting the shutter speeds in the K-r with the shutter dial which was really the mode dial. Lots of lower shutter speeds ended up being movies instead.

Most of my film work is MF or LF hence little thought about chimping. Have done it on the MZ though. My wife who hardly shoots film has her screen set for no instant display so no problems when she does shoot film. I wished there was a way to chimp my K1000 as my eyes are getting too old for the viewfinder

My Facebook friend in Germany uses Canadian Film Labs in Germany. In Medicine Hat we have two places for C41. ONE OF THEM REFERS b&W customers to call me.

For the few times I use it I am willing to be led astray.

I also have a wonderful trio of lens, a 60mm Distagon, 100 Planar and 150 Sonar for my Hasselblad.

Just finished rereading this thread as it is very interesting. Besides my Sigma 70-200 that I don't always take with me and the two cheapie zooms 18-50 and 50-200 for convenience when casual shooting my set of lenses is the 15-21-40-70 SMC Limited and can see no reason to think about changing, adding to or uograding. The 70 is my favourite on both my K5iis and my MZ7, simply love the 15 however have not used the two newer ones the 21 and the 40. I use a small compact camera bag, one I bought for a trip with a borrowed X100 that will hold 2 of the lenses, a couple cards and a spare battery and I hardly feel it when walking about. Certainly cannot do that with 3 star lenses.

The problem for Pentax is that I am more than satisfied with the DA Limiteds. If I do need a macro my wife has a Tamron 90mm so perhaps that is cheating. These compact lenses even feel like the little jewels that they are. And all use 49mm filters too. My only complaint is that I had lost the lens cap for the 70 and took out a loan to but a replacement cap. 😀

I agree with you. I most likely would have purchased a 55-300 PME lens for my K5iis so I a, personally sorry that Ricoh did not make this happen but I understand there has to be a cutoff point and the company needs to move forward.

The early 80s had auto exposure becoming more common and then the auto focus trend. Much brand swapping and upgrading during that decade. And auto focus SLR were much better than the point and shoot cameras, or at least most of them. I wonder if 2005 to 2015 will be considered the heyday of DSLR.

It's too bad I don't have anyone that needs killing as I still have 4 rolls of Neopan 400 135 and seldom shoot that format anymore.

If you are used to a MZ5N then none of the dslr will be too small and certainly not too light. Before I had my K5iis I had a Kr and it's mode was right where your shutter speed dial is hence I got movie mode instead of a faster Hutterites speed etc. The more advanced models have less modes so less things to ignore.

My MZ5N had its mirror gear go on me earlier this year so having to make due with a MZ7

There was a lot more available a decade or so ago. I got a 4X5 enlarge for $30 that had been donated by the city police, got a darkroom for the sink for 30 bucks, 4 current top end enlarging lenses for free and a 57 Elwood enlarge for free.

21st century film photography ... simple and not simple

Yep that is the older method, couldn't remember all the letters in its name. My Nikon CS8000 is hooked up to a computer running Vista. Scanning and loading podcasts is about all I do with that computer, and i guess storing emails.

One disadvantage of older scanners may be the interface. My Nikon 8000 for example uses a firework and some scanners even older methods.

What Does Your "Significant Other" Think Of The Pentax Brand?

My wife is the main reason we stayed with Pentax rather than going to Nikon. At the time she got her first dslr I worked at a 0 lace where we shot Nikon plus had a huge number of Nikkor lenses for the high speed cameras but we had started with Spotmatic F the Sf1 and she wanted to stay with Pentax. She would still be using the K10D if she hadn't broken 8t in Havana and since then she has a K5 with no interest in upgrading. She would rather have another pinhole camera than a new digital camera.

She occasionally also shoots large format and Hasselblad but usually prefers Holgas and Dianas.

I process her film and she prints my colour digital images however she is fully capable of developing and printing in the darkroom when she wants.

She is much finer with me buying gear than selling it too. She might be a keeper, her 50 year probationary period is up in 2025.
