If you like the way the FA31 (or the DA*55) do render on FF, the FA*85 is really in the same vein. Same style, same kind of rendering.

It's very nice, but a bit heavy. Balance well on the K1. I would'nt spend like 1k$ on it though.

Gear is going to be more expensive in the near future. On the other hand, when you see how small is the gain is with every generation, you are going to hold onto your body and lenses much longer.

congrats ! An amazing lens considering it's age. It does really shine on APS-C even wide open, or @f5.6. Far more than most of the lenses of this era, IMO. And yes, i'm pretty hard on old lenses.

Pentax 6x7 vs 645 systems Advantages and Disadvantages?

the 67 paired with the 105 can produce neg absolutely stunning.

BUT the old 6x7 are camera that need regular use to be OK. And often they sat unused for a time and have either sticky shutter, faulty advancement film system (that allow 9 frames and not 10 per rolls).

The 67II far more recent seems less prone to have those same problems.

IF you find somehow that can CLA completely a 6x7 or 67, this will be a good joy to use. It's absolutely massive system on it's own (2Kg for a 6x7 with 105), but the rendering is still the best there is out there. The 105 alone is already worth it.

Well, if pentax was to fold out, you would still be able to get those k1 for a steal and use them for years and years.

You wouldn't change your wife after 20 years of mariage, well, because we never know, she could pass out ?

It's very strange question (i know) but it shows you how much i don't understand why you start thinking about changing body and lenses, when you say you have something that satisfy your need, and you like a lot.

Canon will keep selling EF lenses for a decade, slowing the renewal of lenses, renewing bodies, and will slowly fade out EF mount.

I'm not conviced any bit that the future RF body will be lighter, and RF lenses any lighter too. But who cares ?

I would advise you to send the lens back.

BECAUSE :

To repaire the mechanism, you need to dismantle the back of the lens, and check if some gear didn't get displaced.

BUT : if some geat did get broken, you are most likely screw*d as there is no replacement part available (AFAIK).

Make sure that in-body correction for purple fringing, is not activated. Presse "Info" and have a look.

This can slow the camera quite a lot.

Disclaimer : i don't have the lens.

Did you choose the 2sec timer, or 10 sec timer ? could be deactivating automaticaly the SR (as SR tend to be messy when on tripod).

Did you use a low shutter speed (like 1/250 or lower) ? Maybe SR get deactivated when deemed not necessary (strange but who nows ?).

On eBay some were sold between 250 and 400 euros. It's also the priced on the second hand market in brick and mortar shops in France. It does sell quite fast every time here.

It's a good lens even by today standard. And there is not much alternative in this focal range, and at that price point.

Put it on sale on eBay, be tourough (and honest) in the description, with good quality images, and it will sell. The more precise and honest the description is, the easier it is to sell lenses, even damaged ones.

I shot finals at the youth nationals of sportsclimbing two weeks ago. almost all 3 finals with the Tamron 70-200/2.8. I do a lot of sportclimbing ('cause it's my work :D ), so holding the camera should'nt really be an issue. After 2 finals of 70 mins each, holdind and shooting the last final was pretty hard on the wrist.
I can't imagine shooting it with the Pentax 70-200/2.8.
I can't imagine shooting it with a f4 lens. The f2.8 proved too usefull for AF speed and accuracy.

Pretty much the reason some stay with the old Tamron and Sigma @1.2kg or @1.4kg. The Pentax is really much better but at almost 2kg it's a pain to carry.

Considering how much chip founderies have progressed in the last 5 years, and how power efficient or powerfull chips can be now, i'm pretty much with you about Pentax renewing it's architecture to adapt if for the future.

When i see the HD coating being spread through various model of lens, i think they also are rationalizing their product line, in order to get more parts in common trhough various lens, or body.

People just bought a new body and already hope for a new one to come out. Same for lenses. They never gets satisfied :p

It's really smaller than what pics led to believe !

The f2.8 DA* trinity is really compact compared to the DFA ! That's great !

The DFA is really nice but too heavy. Not big. Just heavy.

I get the rant. I can relate.

About the 70-200. I did get the tamron 2.8. Because the pentax is way to heavy for me. Spectacular but i can't hold it long enough. The tamron is light and very good by f4.
it's cheap second hand. It's a good alternative, even though it's not exactly what you want.

FA 28-105 f3.2-4.5 for a whooping 77€99. It's a very good lens, but i found myself never using it despite saying every time i looked at files "it's a good lens, i should use it more often".
I never "connected" with it.

The album certainly sows it as the great lens. Rendering is pretty much in line of the other Pentax lenses :
- wide open : sharp in the middle, slight vignetting wide open, sharpness reduce very gently as you go to the edge.
- stop down : sharp in the 3/4 of the frame, no more vignetting, colors pops.

it's pretty much back to what was the market just before digital era.

Same here, people keep their Canon 5D series as long as they last. It's workhorse. Eye AF isn't an absolute necessity, and most of the peers know their camera enought to never think of needing it.

Sums up perfectly the why people don't buy new camera.

Looks like Ricoh is simply updating and trying to unified the looks of products and probably trying to have as many lenses using the same parts.

Updating it with a motor would really make it very interesting and better than the DA 35/2.4. A true upgrade. Because so far, not much is different between the DA and FA (aperture, Dof scale, and that's pretty much it).
