SMC Pentax-M 80-200 front element removal

I have a nice example of this 80-200 F4.5 zoom with some minor fungus inside the front elements.
I have removed the first ring and front element with a lens spanner but the fungus is behind the second element.

Can anyone who has stripped one of these give me any ideas how to remove this second front element for cleaning...?

Thanks for any help :)

Thanks for all the suggestions - I guess the rolled-up cardboard tube is the easiest way forward...I'll have a look at the rubber type too.

Help choosing a generic hood for prime lenses

I have a couple of 200mm lenses that I would like to equip with a suitable hood and without buying three or four different length hoods to see which cause vignette problems, is there a simple calculation to determine the longest hood that can be fitted without vignetting...?

Both lenses are 200mm F3.5 and both have 62mm filter threads.

Thanks for any advice :)

Removing the front ring of the 50mm 1.7 Auto Chinon

Thanks for the suggestion but the lens group is designed to unscrew I think.

There is a blob of clear (nail?) varnish locking a section - what is safe to use for softening the varnish lock...will nail varnish remover damage lens elements...?

Has anyone worked on the front elements in the earlier non-mc version of this lens...?

I have a nice 55/1.7 Auto Chinon and I have removed the front ring and extracted the front element cluster but I cannot seperate the front elements from each other.
I have tried a compass-type tool in the two small holes at the back of the front elements but it won't budge...maybe it's glued...any suggestions on a safe glue solvent to try...?

Many thanks

Sorry to dig up this old post but I feel it is a shame that so many forum posts end up with all their related images missing - the whole point of this post is then nullified :)

Is there any chance of these photos being re-linked or re-posted...?

Thanks

Just a quick question if I may - is the P/ES the best bet for M42 mount for Vivitar TX or are there other M42 options in TX mount...?

TIA

Greetings to you all - I have just spent over an hour reading this whole thread...!

I have a 52BB SP90 macro, 55BB SP500 mirror, 103a 80-210, 27a SP28-80 and I've just bought an 01a SP35-80.

I use Pentax M42, Olympus OM and Minolta MD mount film SLRs.

I have a minor problem with the SP35-80 that I just got hold of - the aperture blades or mechanism is sticky. The blades show no oil and appear undamaged but won't operate correctly unless I push the actuator pin in the back of the lens then they open and close but are sluggish.
Has anyone dismantled one of these and could maybe offer me some advice - I need to access the rear of the lens to clean the aperture blades but I'm having trouble getting in.
I have removed the AD2 mount and the three screws that hold the aperture ring on and carefully collected the detent bearing but I can't see the way forward. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Also, what is the difference between the SP F-System 2X converter and the SP 01F converter...?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have just been denied access to the Spotmatic Yahoo group - any ideas why that would be...?
I already subscribe to various other Yahoo interest groups...

Yes! My Spotmatic F will take a LR44/357 silver oxide battery

Or the best bet - Silver Oxides ;)

Alkaline batteries have a poor power drop-off curve and the meter will start to read wrongly long before the battery is flat.

Thanks fractal.

I have a Super Takumar 55 F2, Industar 50-2 pancake, Vivitar 135 F2.8 and Helios 44M.

I missed out on a Pentacon 200 recently but I'll keep searching...!

I thought I should head down here and say hello after just joining the forum.

I've just picked up a Spotmatic SP and quickly followed it with another - these are my first Pentax cameras and I love them already...I got an M42 lens with some other stuff recently and didn't have a suitable body so I did a bit of reading and the Spotmatic seemed like a popular choice.

I now have four M42 lenses and I have my eye on a whole load more...:D

Film is my passion but I also do digital on a small scale (Can*n P&S) and I am considering a digital SLR when funds (and reality) allow.

Anyway, I'm sure I have a whole heap of reading to do here so I'll sign off.

:)

Apologies for digging up an old thread but I have just acquired an Industar 50-2 and I'm sat here with my GU chocolate pot (empty, I might add) ready to make a nifty hood.

Richard - would you mind measuring the GU pot you cut down from front to back to make my cutting easier...:D

Looks like a great solution - thanks.
