D-FA 1.4/85

The 11-18 appears worthy. They did everything right, but forgot to release the 85 with it. 6 weeks to go.

Lens mount adaptors

It is the whole idea of a mount adaptor to align a lens of different mount parallel to the sensor plane. The lens defines angle of view and image circle. A small format lens with small image circle and too short flange distance will not fit at all.
Just make sure that the adaptor spec sheet mentions focus to infinity and proud should be physically ok.

It is actually really cool and useful. It folds easily. All the flip and fold Displays cannot compete.

77mm vs Sigma 85mm

I use the 77 and like I a lot., but someone has to say it: FA 1.4/85 is not a modern portrait lens option. It has been discontinued for 15 years. Every lens is at least 15 years old. Can we still get spare parts? The 77 is also not a recent design. Size and performance wise the Canon 1.4 85 is maybe your best bet for current DSLR camera. Pentax keeps talking about the upcoming DFA 85, but it is not showing up. A mint fa 85 costs you basically the same as a new Nikon, Canon, Sigma 1.4 85 with warranty and modern features. The Pentax fa 85 is a solid performer, but much overrated or overpriced due to lack of alternatives. Settle for 77, wait for DFA 85 or move on.

Sigma stops K-Mount support

To be found on photorumors.com. Reason is the concentration on mirror less mounts.
Less options for Pentax users, but the selection was small anyways.

Not a great loss, but a sign. Pentax can now present their own large aperture 35, tele zooms, ...

It will be different and should offer some new functionality or fit. Camera and grip go together these days.
It will also need the magic, so far undisclosed, button.

Switched cameras, now focus blurry

Try a simple target, easy to focus on and check all possible faults. I would assume that you need focus fine tuning. Putting a lens from my one camera to another does (often) not work these days.
Take no images of moving objects, handheld,... this is not the way to identify the problem.

DFA 150-450mm versus DA 560mm

560 is longer, so it is better.

I really see no point in the 560 mm lens from Pentax. Designed for APS-C ok´d for FF. Not really a 600 too long for 500, too expensive and left alone without any brothers and sisters.

15 year anniversary

In 2004 production of a lot of FA lenses stopped. For 15 years you cannot get something like the 1.4/85, the 4/200M, the 2/24 or something like the fast tele lenses. Even used 15 year old lenses don‘t really fill the gaps.

Let‘s wait for the 100th company anniversary and hope for the best.

Court judgement (Germany) on shooting down a drone being ok to protect privacy

The ruling values the right of protecting your privacy higher than the right of drone property. Privacy was intimidated, but the person broke someone else’s property. You can always sue the drone pilot, breaking the drone is more intense. Interesting ruling. If i aim my camera at a person, can the person destroy my camera? We do not know whether the shutter was pressed...

Why Ricoh should not let themselves be lured into the built-in obsolescence game
Posted By zapp

Pentax did not actively choose to become a niche brand. With their current research power, Pentax can only fill a niche.
Blaming Sony for being too fast, is an interesting approach. Sony fills a lot of niches these days, space for Pentax is there, but not increasing. Both businesses have to justify investments and make profit. As a customer I care for my needs and not for business needs of a company. I have a lot of overlap with the Pentax niche, but I keep looking left and right. A lot of the people here buy obsolete Pentax gear used because they define what is obsolete not Pentax.

Why the 40 if...

We all had this phase, thinking that bigger is better and weight does not matter. Sooner or later you will see the advantage of a small lens. A big lens is not only heavy, but it draws attention to it. DA40 and other DA ltds are nice for street photography, very unobtrusive.
I tried two Art35, and honestly DA40 performed better. AF did not work well with Sigma. Pentax makes lenses in the 40 range with larger aperture, not the most recent designs, but quite unique.
If you are after Sigma Art f/1.4 lenses, Pentax may not be the best option.

Fast 85mm lens?

Canon costs 1600, Sigma 1200, put the Pentax at 1500.
No rush to get the 85, but without this option, there is quite some pull away to a company that manages to offer a 1.4 85 solution.

Go Pentax on batteries, charges, remote, battery grips, ... costs more, but you buy one product that works. For me it is the same for lenses and my primary flash as well.
