That (and DEVELOP.MOD) did the trick, thanks! Doesn't seem like there's much there, though.

Detailed specs of Pentax K-70

I'm beginning to wonder if this is the start of Pentax having three product lines again -- this time, the K-n0 series are the flagship APS-C cameras, the K-S series is the budget APS-C, and the K-n series is the true flagship. Would make a lot of sense, even if in-the-know sources are denying it.

UFRaw or RawTherapee or ? for free

I personally use RawTherapee. It's open source, and gives me all the sliders and dials I need. The Squirrel Mafia has created camera profiles for many of the mainstream Pentax cameras here. Never used LightZone, but any group which requires me to register to download their program annoys me.

DIY - $5 Digital Camera and $5 Computer

Ehhhhhh, not quite. First, you need to buy the camera module, which is $25 or so. Second, the camera cable for the Pi Zero is incompatible with the camera cable used for every other Pi model, so there's another $5. Third, this comes with no way to interface with it, short of hooking it up to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, so you'd have to make your own interface. This can be very expensive in time, money, or both.

The biggest issue, though, is that the lens on the camera body is fixed-focus and quite difficult to modify; one person who has experience with modifying the lenses on the old camera module damaged several modules trying to fix a focus problem with the first batch of new camera modules.

In short, while this is a cool thing to happen, trying to make a decent digital camera out of this is a fool's errand.

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were camping in the British countryside. In the middle of the night, Sherlock nudges Watson awake. "Watson," he asks, "look up at the sky and tell me what you see."

Watson is annoyed at having been woken up, but indulges his dear friend and colleague. "Well," he says, "astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meterologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. Theologically, I see that God is all-powerful, and we are small and insignficant. Uh, what does it tell you, Holmes?"

"Well, Watson," Holmes says, "it tells me that someone's stolen our tent."

Pentax returning to brick & mortar stores?

There are two camera stores in my neck of the woods. The one closest to me, however, only sells used photo equipment; the owner decided to make vinyl records the main thrust of his store. He does sell Pentax -- though when I was first starting out, he warned me to go Canikon -- and I've found a few decent lenses there. The other store is pretty much Canikon exclusive, and much smaller; I've never seen any Pentax there.

This is my latest acquisition -- a Pentax-M 50mm f/4 Macro lens that I found mint in the box at the local camera store for $75. Against my better judgement, I snapped it up, and it takes some awesome pics. :-)

Fotasy usually manufacturers to good tolerances if you're looking for a third-party adapter. Not sure if they make M42-K, but might be worth a look.

Dewman, your generosity is awesome. I still have the JCPenney 80-200 lens you gave me a while back, though now that I have my Adaptall in the same focal length, I'll likely be paying the favor forward. Thank you so much!

1. Don't worry about not having the best gear. I've taken great photos with old manual-focus lenses, and a photo with a suboptimal lens beats no photo at all.
2. Don't be afraid of pushing up the ISO. You can fix noise easier than drastic underexposure in post-production.
3. As with all creative pursuits, don't be afraid of failure.

This New Year's Day, I was with my girlfriend in Pittsburgh. That night, we went to Phipps Conservatory.

The full (and quite large) album is here. For most images, I used my DA 18-55mm WR lens, but for the macro shots I used my Adaptall 70-210mm (46A). Post-processing was done in RawTherapee with The Squirrel Mafia's excellent camera profiles for the K-50 and derivatives.

Google Translate is your friend. I have to say, $230 for a 50mm 1.2 lens isn't bad. I'm surprised they don't make it in K-mount, since all of their SLRs are K-mount...

I was in Pittsburgh with my girlfriend on New Year's, and I brought my camera along.

Full album is here. I mostly shot this with a Pentax DA 18-55 WR, but I also brought out my Tamron Adaptall-2 70-210 (46A) and 28mm (02B) for a couple of them. Post-processing was done in RawTherapee, with The Squirrel Mafia's excellent camera profiles for the K-50 and derivatives.
