If you are using the lens on small aperture the dust would be more visible. Might be why you do not see in on the other lenses. It is highly improbable to come from the lens itself

DFA 100 Macro WR Autofocus Failure

Hi bigoak Have you tired it on another camera body as well. There was quite a few reports of the SDM contacts on the lens base coming loose. They are the two innermost electrical contacts and are identical. Mine bent and could not make contact any more. I straightened it and it word well until it bent again and broke off. I am waiting for a new SDM contact module to have it working again

Focus issue

I have been using the 18-135 with a K5 and tried to focus with live view on bright stars and trial and error, but it was an exercise in frustration. I could not reliably find the stars on live view and on zooming in the stars and noise worked together to cause even more confusion. I have not tried the ' focus during daylight on infinity and taping the lens ' method, but it robs you of using the lens during the best part of the day and the throw is so short on the focusing ring that it would go out of of whack easily. I settled on using an manual focus 50mm F2 Pentax lens on infinity stop and it worked fine, but without the wide angle of the 18mm. If your really serious and need the wide angle ( don't we all?), I would go for a manual focus like the Samyang 16 or 14 mm, but it seems that you need to calibrate the focusing as well

Good luck

Pentax K1000 vs Ricoh KR-5 Super

THe Ricoh was sold as a cheaper alternative to Pentax. I have both and the Ricoh is deceptively well built and tough. Not a softy camera Difficult choice. I would keep both!

An update. The contact now has broken off cleanly and now I have a manual focus lens on a K5, which is not a manual focus star. The focus confirmation does not work either. I removed the offending contact module and it small and I am sure easily replaced. I am sure that it is not an isolated problem. To send a lens from here for repairs is next to impossible ( we have to export, pay tax, import, pay tax and then try to claim back. It has never worked before ) I I am trying to get the offending part from a South African outfit, but no luck yet. Anyone knows where it can be found?

Pentax DSLRs are great. If you use APSC, you will find manual focus ( with older lenses ) quite challenging and then a camera with focus peaking would be useful. It would be a pity if you cannot use your old lenses properly.

I changed to DSLR from K1000 never looked back. Only problems is focus and sensor dust, but can be managed

Great shot I assume it was at Etosha. Have you used machine gun mode? Or pressed it at the right time?

K70 and LR4

Hi

I have a K5 and the DNG files works perfectly with LR4. I plan to get a k70, but will I need to get a newer LR or will it work just as transparently? I other words is the new cameras DNG files the same as he old ones? To get a subscription in our currency will be just too much and if I have to I will buy a standalone LR6, but LR4 is still very fine with me.

Thanks

Thanks Na Horuk It is at our own canyon ( the Fish River canyon in Namibia) and the size and orientation actually makes it quite easy to take telephoto shots. I will post some more. We have a big country with large spaces and a wide angle just does not cover it all

I took a photo of a group of hikers at the starting point of the trail running through the canyon ( as I said , my 300 is the best for landscapes ) and found the photobomb of somebody not seeing me with my long lens. The guy at the right
