Finally got the classic Limited

I went looking for the 32mm lens in the database and couldn't find it. As I copied the comment above, I suddenly realized that you must have meant the 35mm which was my first DA Limited (I acquired the others as well afterwards). I just couldn't understand how I could have missed getting the 32mm. :D

Probably a long shot, but static? I had something similar years ago after walking quickly over a carpeted floor inside in the winter, at least I think it was wintertime.

SDM failure

This is what I did for my 50-135. It is quoted from another post of mine. It does require, however, that your lens will wake up and start focussing in a normal fashion just by trying it out continuously for a while:

"Exercise the lens regularly. My 16-50 has always been okay for SDM focusing, but not my 50-135. Neither lens was used that often for a number of years, and the 50-135 would require me playing with it for 15-30 minutes just to get the SDM to work. Last year I spent about a month taking it out of storage almost every day and, once the focusing started to work, exercised it by focusing on different distances in my apartment and through the windows for 30 minutes or so. Eventually it would focus immediately during these daily sessions. Now I do this exercising every two or three weeks.

"I should add that my current exercising of the lens is for only 5 minutes or so to ensure the focusing is still working right away. The key is to keep using the lens even if only to exercise it."

An excellent point, but unfortunately a number of us are learning this too late. I probably have over 150 of mostly unusable rolls of TMAX 3200 and Delta 3200. :(:(

My tests of Tri-X and HP5 appear to be okay, some fogging but quite usable. :):)

Neither was I until I started using the film back in 2016.

Were all the HP5 films affected or only one? I've only tried one of my frozen HP5 films (maybe two) with no major issues. They were 35mm, not 120; I haven't tried the latter yet.

There will be some fogging but the film should still be useable. See my posting #13 at

As I said earlier, if you are concerned with corner sharpness with the DA 18-135, check out the DxO software:

DxO PhotoLab does a good job of improving corner sharpness in DA 18-135 photos.

rawshooters, do you use sRGB or AdobeRGB?

That's a pretty strong statement suggesting the lab does things to its advantage rather than than that of the many photographers, some of them professional, in my area whom it must please to keep them as customers. My monitor is calibrated and I review my prints under a 5000K (approx.) light when comparing them to the original images on my monitor. Allowing for the differences between viewing an image with reflected light as opposed to transmitted light, I have found my lab's prints very close to the original images on my monitor.

When I had my Epson 3880 I always used the appropriate profile for the paper on which I was printing. In many cases I made my own profiles, although I found the manufacturer-supplied ones sufficiently adequate for my purposes. I would much prefer to do my own printing which would not only be much less expensive but would also allow much more scope for experimentation. Right now my volume of printing is not sufficient to justify it.

When I did my own printing I used paper profiles specific to my printer (an Epson 3880) and inks with very good results. Since my printer died a few years ago I have had to use a local lab which uses only sRGB and Adobe RGB profiles. Fortunately I have a wide gamut monitor which comes very, very close to Adobe RGB when it is calibrated, so in this case I can expect my prints from this lab to be what I see on my monitor. Your suggestion for choosing a lab is better but would add significantly to my printing costs for shipping and, probably as well, higher per-print costs.

I would prefer to do my own printing, but my volume right now cannot justify the cost. I still have a few hundred dollars of paper waiting to be sold or used at some point in the future.

Because it requires this type of attachment to enable easy use of the camera outdoors in bright light:

Hoodman Live View Kit for all DSLR Cameras - HLVKIT

That's an added cost, extra bulk, and no advantage to it over the optical viewfinder. Also slower to use. It's good for infrared because the focus points of a lens differ from visual light.

Thanks, Steve, for the suggestion. The focus now on the K-5 II is close but not perfect with the KatzEye split image focussing screen. Indoors with the K-5 II I tend to use the autofocus; and outdoors, with the smaller apertures and more depth of field, it may not matter much. I have never changed the shims, only the screens, on my cameras; and that makes me nervous enough as it is of causing damage through a misstep. But I will give your suggestion some thought.

Added: All my focussing now on the K-7 is done in live view, so the calibration of its focussing screen is unimportant.

When I converted my K-7 to infrared, I moved my KatzEye focussing screen over to my K-5 II. Unfortunately they closed down before I had a chance to send that camera to them for calibration.

Very true, of course; but I'm intending to stick with APS-C into the foreseeable future, and the trio of FA Limiteds fit a need of mine in the smaller format. Actually I haven't tried them on my film cameras; perhaps I should.

Next the 31. I'm not sure which I got first, but I have the trio. I love the DA Limiteds, but these three have the additional speed I need for available light photography.

If you're referring to my posting, yes; but not that often since I'm mostly shooting digital and have the DA 15 and DA 12-24. I'm actually not that much of a wide-angle shooter, nor telephoto either.

Probably not worth the expense for you and I'm not sure of the connection requirements; but I just learned in a webinar since writing my earlier post, that external GPUs (eGPUs) are now available to speed up graphics processing for laptops and desktops. Will technical wonders never cease?:lol:
