A few more images from "La Vallée des Singes" ... here taken with the second camera in the bag, a Fujifilm X-E2 with a XF 35/1.4 ... I wish that Pentax could develop something like the Fuji X-E series. I would be all over it.

Yesterday we went to the "Vallée des Singes" (Valley of the Monkeys), a free-range type zoo and I tired out a Rikenon 50/2 that had been stocked up in the attic. Actually I have two and never really thought that this lens would be average at best until I read the reviews here on PF. Quite happy with this first-time outing and the last image is a tire swing where I added a Pentax n°1 extension tube. (x-post from K-1 thread)

As a PSA ... several 35/2 lenses to see the differing constructions ... from left to right : STak 35/2, SMC Tak 35/2, SMC K 35/2, SMC M 35/2.

After, there's an image of a Minolta MD 35/1.8 and a Vivitar 35/1.9 (M42).

I went back to (re)read and it's probably a "typo" ... but maybe DPR knows something.

They write at the bottom "... 21mm F2.8 Limited ..."

Just FYI in case this has not come up yet.

These are M 20/4 images from the K-1 that I took early Spring below our lockdown in France. They are for a now-cancelled regional clubs photo expo ... the theme is "Vue du sol" meaning "view of the ground" or "view from the ground". It's kind of a play on words.

Here the K-1 is resting on the asphalt and the subjects are French attorneys protesting against the new proposed retirement pension reforms ... I was @ about f/8 and in hyperfocal for these. Chimped after several images shot at the end of a blind point & shoot spray.

Thanks for re-opening this thread.

Mea culpa ...

⇒ First, I apologize to anyone that thought I was getting on my "high horse" about what I have done in life other than photography. That was probably quite out of place here and I will try to better in the future. Promise.

⇒ Second, if I offended anyone by my rather harsh criticism for lack of information concerning this 21mm, then I regret that, too.

⇒ Third, if anyone wants more UWA image samples (just to get an idea of what's out there and what its perspective looks like), then give me a green light. I have some SMC M 20/4 images that can be posted.

Cheers, J

Here's one translated for y'all ...

"Look at this application : it makes bad Polaroid photos like in the good ol' days !"

" ... afterwards you can even customize it by buying the kit called "Fingerprints on the lens" !

And yes, there's plenty of room on this photography forum, especially for those who never post images.

For those of you curious of other possible UWA lens options while awaiting the release of the new 21mm ... here's a few images using an old Sigma 21-35/3.5-4 zoom in PK. All with the K-1 and the lens parked at 21mm ... the interior auto museum image was probably shot wide open since the ISO is @ 200 and the shutter speed is @ 1/25 ... also probably @ MFD.

Hopefully this will give some an idea of 21mm perspective on FF ...

"Bonjour" ... thanks a lot for the compliment and as I just wrote above, maybe I am too demanding when it concerns the information (or lack thereof) that Pentax emits.

For those interested here's a link to my Flickr album for the Tamron Adaptall-2 SP 17mm f/3.5. I shot it in February 2017 for the Single's Challenge thread - a thread that I need to get back into again.

Tamron SP 17/3.5 Adaptall-2 | Flickr

I really like UWA's and here are a few images with this 17/3.5 ... and I shot a B&W theme that month as well.

Hi ... as you note, I may have been a bit too harsh here, but the maximum aperture is a critical piece of information IMHO. That's all.

Sorry if you think that I am trashing the lens. That was never my intention. Like I wrote previously, I hope that the 21 will great with an aperture well below f/2.8. And like I wrote as well, I hope more than most that Pentax hits one out of the ballpark with this lens, a major grand slam over the deep center field fence.

If this 21mm f/??? shows up as a fast aperture lens, then it will climb to the top of the "short list" of my planned acquisitions ... I adore my 77 and would like to test out the 43 some day. The 31 does not interest me that much because it's not very wide for me ... thus, my hopes for a fantastic (and fast) 21 Limited.

Whatever, really whatever ... and here we go again ... and I am really tired of going back and forth with you ... so, let's just drop it, OK. I know that I am.

Let's just agree that we will never agree.

Nope, cannot agree, not conflicting. I have a law degree and have taught in higher education ... there's a slight difference between a fact and a hope. I have to deal with facts. Unforgiving facts. Period.

It's fact that no one knows the maximum aperture of this new 21mm at its announcement (as opposed to the two other lenses where we were given the aperture information) ... and I hope more than most that they hit this one out of the ballpark, a major home run ... maybe with an aperture way below f/2.8.

And I would advance that a "roadmap" is always less specific by nature ... than an actual presentation image of the product with glowing accolades of what it will be able to do in the near future, once it is made and on sale.

Again, I find this product image woefully lacking essential information ... and as a general question to all : Has anyone ever seen another manufacturer product release in a similar way?

Thanks a lot for the compliment ... I appreciate it coming from you.

Again, I am sure that the new 21mm will be very nice, but I have to call* a big "BS" on this one.

How can anyone announce that they are developing a top-shelf UWA lens without giving the maximum aperture ?!

That is crucial. How can I even begin to evaluate if this UWA would be right for me ?

Please do not get me wrong, I love my Pentax gear and many of you know that I have a ton that I use and actually post images with here on PF.

I want Pentax to succeed, but no indication of the maximum aperture for this 21mm is unacceptable IMHO.

Enough said and let the stone throwing begin ...

Hi ... just to set the record straight ... if you reread what I wrote, I never said that I had "any direct knowledge" about this lens.

Nope. And a lot of folks on this forum will agree that I don't know nothing about anything.

I am sure that the new 21/f? will be a great lens. I just like the challenge of not using the latest and greatest.

Plus ... I can have a Coke addiction, too ... ;)

Agreed ... my point was for fill-in situations ... not for pro level strobe/studio situations.

My Interfit kit is far superior to an onboard flash ... obviously ... and it's a bit harder to carry in my shoulder camera bag, too. ;)

Also, my K-7, K-5, K-3 and K-30 all had a flash and were weather sealed.
