Your vehicle: what do you have, why do you like it, and what do you not like?

Typically older vehicles are not required to comply with the new regulations.

I guess that means my former co-worker can continue to patronize his body shop
with no need to make a frivolous purchase of that "unnecessary" $99 bumper. ;)

At one time a rear bumper was not mandatory in New York for pickup trucks.

A thrifty coworker bought a new small pickup to commute in.
He probably saved close to $100 by deleting the rear bumper.

He paid far more than that at the body shop when he was inevitably rear-ended.

Pentax LX repair is still listed as an available service on his pentaxs.com website.

I do recall hearing that the parts required to overhaul an LX body are becoming scarce.

Those "bumper thingies" would save that fancy grill when you nosedive
braking before rear-ending the dummy who stops short in front of you.

Bumper guards were once a common inexpensive accessory.
People weren't so dumb in the olden days...

My childhood family photos were taken by my mom with her 127 Kodak Brownie Starflash camera.
The BW photos (shot on Verichrome, probably) survived but her Anscochrome slides faded and color shifted wildly.
Alas almost everything was washed away in Sandy. :( My advice is to store your precious photos on a high shelf.

My Carousel and all my slides were ruined in the flood from Sandy.
I bought a brand new Elmo, which I tried to give away when the film supply dried up.
Fortunately for me nobody wanted it. Any news on the new Ektachrome?

Chris

P.S. All of the walls in my new place are painted flat white.

Small world. I ordered a BenQ GW2280 monitor today.
Will connect to my desktop PC and universal player via its 2 HDMI inputs.

Ricoh AF Rikenon 50mm f/2 Lens for Pentax K

An interesting curiosity, it adds AF to a Pentax K manual focus body.
I had one but never tried it; it was destroyed in the flood from Sandy.
Like the XR Rikenon 50/2 lens image quality should be quite good.

It's a good idea to develop this film soon after exposure.
Even Ilford admits Pan F has poor latent image retention.

I would be remiss not to include the following:

You Tube

There are numerous variations of the song Matty Groves - from America and the British Isles - but this recording
by Fairport Convention from their watershed 1969 album Liege and Lief is considered the definitive version.

RIP Sandy and Swarb.

Long ago in another thread I posted Richard Thompson's 1952 Vincent Black Lightning .

Here's one from another guitar hero regarding a murder case that resulted in one of the the last executions in Britain:

Elvis Costello's Let Him Dangle was also written in reference to the same case.

A recent study finds 30% of city traffic results from drivers looking for a parking spot.
I wonder how will privately-owned autonomous vehicles deal with the parking issue?

These were not popular when formerly in production and film was the only game in town.

It will likely be a fussy gadget in use and prone to failure. It is extremely overpriced.
And unless it can somehow interface to a smartphone it will have limited appeal even to hipsters with deep pockets.

Why wait for one of these when you can spend half the money for a perfectly good
daylight tank and reels - a system of proven design - and changing bag or tent?

My friend's first car was his parent's old '67 Dart. Theirs was a two-door sedan with Slant-Six.

If the occupant of the passenger seat was leaning against the door when making a sharp left turn the door might open up on it's own.
Once leaving the Rosedale movie theater I nearly wound up sprawled across Rockaway Boulevard. Seemed pretty autonomous to me!

The Spiratone warehouse was on Northern Boulevard near Main Street in Flushing, Queens.
They had a small retail store there. IIRC it was so small you could barely turn around in there!

Many of today's users have never handled a substantially metal camera body or manual focus lens.
They will likely never know the difference.

My first camera was an Imperial 126 Instamatic clone.
It gave me my first - and some of my most memorable - 4" x 6" prints.
Or were they only 3" x 5" back then?

I prefer the look of HP5+ at E.I. 800 over the box speed of ISO 400.
Pushing bumps up the contrast nicely.

Since the PZ-10 uses DX-coding you will need some workaround.

It's hard to believe I have enjoyed photography for nearly fifty years.

A Canon A-1, my second 35mm SLR, was far too automated for me.
I traded it in and opted for mostly manual mechanical cameras after that.
As AF and AE etc. became commonplace I lost interest in the new models.

I can't relate to automation and digital. Fortunately they do not affect
and in no way discourage my love of classic film cameras and lenses,
film, developing and especially wet printing in the darkroom.

In my experience compared to a Pentax manual focus lens and camera,
early Pentax autofocus lenses and cameras do not have the same "feel".

They do not operate with the precision of the old designs and do not inspire confidence.

Presumably newer models have improved. But you can keep them!
