No more deciding on what to do. I ordered he FA77mm today and should be here in a day or so. I cant afford the 85mm at them moment. If the 77 is anywhere near as sharp as the 31mm I will be happy. If the Aussie dollar gets stronger I might look to the 85 later on.
Thanks everyone for their input and advice. Much appreciated.

Maybe its worth the wait. For about $ 910 Au I can have the 77 delivered. With the current exchange rate the best I can do including postage and import duties is around $1500 au plsu. So its quiet a difference, unless I can find one here in OZ, Other option is as said, grab the 77 and see if the OZ dollar drops or find one in a shop that takes American express tavel card.
For now Ill just keep dreaming.

I thinkk you are right. I can get the 77 here in OZ for $899 so maybe the way to go.Bet this then an 85 later when I can justify.

Im still undecided on what one. I know the 85 is what I really want, so I can always wait. I have a American Express travel card with 3000 US dollars on it. So I could cash that in and make a few dollars on the exchange or find somewhere I can use the card.
A nice silver 77mm would also keep me happy until I get to the US again.
I migh just have a look at CR Kennedy.

Watching the price of the 85mm has got me thinking still on what way to go. Because the 85mm are at all US $ the price range in Australian Dollar is between $1350 and $1550 plus freight and any import duties on top. I can get a 77mm silder here in Australia $ 1000 delivered. So maybe I should buy the 77 and if its not what I wasnt sell it later and get the 85mm.
The more mages taken with the 77 the more I like it as well. Just hoping it will fit in between my FA* 28-70 and FA* 80-200mm. The only other option is to wait until the Dollar is stronger or buy in Australia if an 85mm comes up for sale. The use of the 77 for panoramics also sounds good.
I have just noticed that the 77 mm is avvertised as a SMCP-77mm and a SMC77mm is there a difference or just advertising.

I think I really want a good portrait lens ore than landscape. I use my 15mm, 31mm,28-70 and 80-200 on my panohead so got it covered pretty well. The 85 looks as though it would be a good walk around town lens as well. Price just holding me back at bit at the moment. Hopefully dollar will get stronger.
Id like to get into portrait and maybe a bit of event photography. Im drooling over the 85 so I think Im sold.

My kit is a K5iis.FA15mm, FA 31, FA* 28-70, FA* 80-200 f/2.8. FA 100mm Macro and a Sigma 150-500. I have been isunf the 31 mm for panoramics using a pano head.So sharp. I thing the FA*85 mm will complete the kit.(for now). All my lenses will be ready for the FUll frame when it eventuates.

Thanks Dsims. Much appreciated. I habe found a good FA* 85 in Japan at $1350 US plus freight.Brings it up near $1500 Australian so a bit to expensive at the moment. They all seem to be 1150 upwards. I also have the 31mm so hoping the 85 might fit in just nicely.
Thanks again

Size doesnt worry me but Im not interested in the Sigma. I my regular lenses are a FA* 28-70 and FA*-80-200. I recently got rid of a Sigma 10-20 and replaced with a Pentax 15mm prime. More interested in the Pentax FA*85mm but not sure of what is a reasonable price.

Hoping someone might give me some advice. Im looking at buying an 85mm 1.4 and found a few listed . Prices are between $1200 and $1500 US, is this around the right mark,With our weaker Aussie dollar id be lookng at another 10% or more.
Other than this I looked at the Pentax 77mm, any comparison.

Problem Solved. About to pack the lens off for servicing and one more look at the aperture blads and connections. It felt a little stiff where the camera operates the aperture. The arm was a little bent and up against the lens body. That would have been causing the aperture blades to stick and also throw out the metering as the rest of the esttings were changing but the apeture staying the same.
tried in all settings now and working fine.
I must have bumped it at one stage but cannot remeber where as I am vet careful with my gear.

Thanks Steve. The problem is that the lens is left in the A setting. When I put the lens on it is in A setting but I need to move the focus ring around a few times to get it to work. It does change on the camera with the dial but still issues with exposure. Maybe aperture blades are sticking.
Thanks

Just having a few issues with my FA8 28-70mm. I have tried it on three cameras so ruled out the camera as an issue.
I started to notice when I change a lens and put the 28-70 on I can hardly see through the view finder and looks very grainy. If I move the aperture ring around a few times it comes clean and looks fine.
The other issue is that there is no through the lens metering and to get a correct exposure I have to manually set the shutter / ISO / F stop myself.
I used the lens for eight weeks while we were in the USA and got used to manual exposure.
Even in all the camera modes it was the same so Manual mode was used.
I have tried cleaning the connections on the lens and camera but no change. I suppose its time to send it off to Pentax for repairs.
I have used it on my K10D,K5 and K5iis and no difference on each camera.
Any suggestions other than send it off.

Not for me Im afraid. Im not one for wearing belts and having 4K worth of camera and lens hanning off my belt is a bit of a worry. I do a lot of climbing around when taking panos so i like the Black Rapid where I can carry a spare battery, cards and a mobile all in one. When doing street photography I can slide the camera around behind my back and out of view.
Everyone for their own. Ill stick with the straps.

Thanks Panoguy. Just wondering whether the stops interfere when using the camera on a ballhead. I only have a few millimeters either end of the camera plate. I found the stops in Aus for $11.77 but want $15.95 freight. Bit expensive I think. No onder we buy overseas on the net.
Ill keep looking.Might have to sell this leveller sitting here at my desk.

I like the idea of the poles but leaving them alone until I work the NN5 out.
Well I have it all together now and did what you said about tighteneing the clamp. It all seems to work OK. The thing that worried me was that my Acrotech camer plate is long and only fits in the clamp on the pano rail in a vertical position and was worried about it slipping down while on the pano set up.Ill get a few pics up tonight to show what I mean.Has anyone ever used the easy leveller mounted on the tripod base then a ball head on top ot that or would it be an overkill.

I think you are right about some pictures. I am ok with the ballhead as it will be perfect and the camera plates are good.
I have the NN5 Panoramic head and it came with an Arca swiss style plate. I think I wave got it worked out but will post some pics as well.

Well the Acratech GP ball head arrived today and probably under the xmas tree by now. I got a camera mounting plate as well as a lens plate. I thought I had all I needed now.I wast to use the quick release system with my NN5 panohead but still cant work out what I need. The head came with an arca style swiss quick release system but cant seem to get it to work with the camera plate I got today. Must be doing something wrong. I want to be able to use the same camera plate on the tripod as well as the NN5.Any suggestions.
