Pentax New Accessory Leaked

I contacted the company. There was an error. To the right of this item was supposed to be the accompanying Whistle. These items were to be used in conjunction with each other so that every Pentax could clearly be noted as having every conceivable Cowbell and Whistle that any photographer could ever need.

Not only does this lens work well dn a 645 but equally well on a a Pentax DSLR with the adapter. I have both this and the 600"A and prefer this lens over the 35mm version. CA is extremely well controlled on the 645 version. the handle mount is simply luxury in the field and the lens is relatively compact. Really wonderful lens.

This version and DG version are the sharpest versions of this focal length that Sigma has ever made. It is a phenomenal lens and you are offering it a nice price too. Good luck to you and the lucky buyer. It is one of the few lenses that I have that I don't think I would ever part with. Absolutely razor sharp throughout the range. And who knows whether or not FF is on Pentax's radar screen? :)

DA* 60-250 - Wow!

I think that I'll second Adams comments. The Da 60-250 is simply a spectacular lens. The Da `16-50 is generally very good to excellent beyond 20mm all the way up to 50mm. While the DA16-50 is usable in the 16mm focal length, edge softness becomes an issue and CA can be borderline uncorrectable. I try not to go below 18 mm on that lens.

While there is overlap for sure, the DA 50-135 is probably on par with the Da 60-250. Nice lens to have in a lens stable when the weight and reach of the larger lens is not needed.

Problem with the K-5 handling SDXC cards

In my wanderings through the Pentax site, I think I recall that while 1.13 will correct SDXC problems it will not necessarily work with the UHS -1 cards. The programmers have not dealt with those cards to date.

Erosion Patterns

Using a moderate telephoto lens the erosional decaying walls of Factory Butte in Utah create a landscape of patterns that take on an otherworld appearance. This image shows several hundred vertical feet of the dissection of the eastern escarpment of this massive butte. While it may look as though the image is manipulated in an art-like manner, I can assure that it is not. The greyish material is just the color you see it as and the area around the butte is devoid of plants and other acutely visible life forms.

I think that a with firmware 1.13 the problem was solved. I recently used the Lexar 64gb and 32gbs while out west recently and they worked perfectly.

Tony,

I wondered whether or not the problems associated with deletions and 64gb cards would be solved via 1.12. My added
3rd k5 body I bought had v1.11. Obviously it didn't work. Calling Pentax this morning they checked the Japanese site and said that there were still bugs in the sdxc firmware. If there are bugs still with the various permutations in capture/delete/jpeg/raw then perhaps just sticking with 32gb sdhc cards is the answer for now.

Is it documented that 32gb sdxc absolutely works with all capture/download issues? Pentax USA seems unaware

Pentax USA advised me today that SDXC is currently not speed regulated or compliant with the K5 as of yet. It is an issue that is apparently still being worked on. Rely on SDHC rather SDXC at the moment.

I have to say that I agree with what you believe. However, Pentax USA (assuming you can believe everything they say) advised me that in fact it is not unusual for Pentax to send a camera to a destination (like NY) with the local, date stamp and time preset.

Do I buy that? I don't know. But the camera was at 0 clicks apparently because I could account for every single shutter actuation I made when I PhotoeMe'd the camera and it registered 72.

Now the only problem with the dang camera is SDXC issues. I don't know whether or not they have addressed that in the most recent firmware.

UPDATE:

I just did a shutter count as per this forum. 72 clicks which corresponds to what I have taken. I thought that there should have been a couple hundred as per testing at the factory.

Date of manufacturing 8-10-11.

I am assuming that the shutter count cannot be reset. Correct or wrong assumption on my part?

Thanks

Stephen

Thanks for the feedback.

True. 80 percent of my gear has been purchased thru b&h over the past 30 years and they are a quality org. I have never had problems elsewhere either. This is the first questionable transaction I have encountered. Not a lost cause.... But an onion that needs a little more peeling. The original seller has been contacted and claims Pentax sent them in and he sold them as offered from Pentax. He said he would gladly exchange if i request such.

I'll check the shuttercount tonight if I can figure out how to execute... what is it .... Photo Me?

Glad to know that I am not alone in thinking "I" should be setting all the parameters when opening up a new box.

I must concur. I will have to consider whether or not to return it after finishing a thorough test drive.

I did call Pentax CS in Colorado on this today and they said they don't see it as a problem? Hmmm! I wonder if other K5 purchasers over the past few weeks care to let me know whether or not their SETTINGS were SET or whether they had to set them. Thanks everyone.

I recently picked up an additional K5 from a legit Pentax retailer. The camera was sold as new (serial 415XXXX) and shipped to me.

I have purchased 12 Pentax DSLR's since they started manufacturing DSLR's. In every case I would open the box and set the cameras settings for Language, Date and Time/Location. This camera had the date, time, local and language already set. Is this the new norm or is this a possible re-stock or returned to shelf item?

Sharing your experience or knowledge on this issue would be appreciated.

I REALLY enjoyed this very nice production. Use of music complimented the clips nicely.

Technically very enjoyable but it may have lacked a human/emotional tie in and a specific focus on what we were supposed to get out of it. For example, the mood was beautifully set by the music and great images... however, a tie in with...let's say... an individual (person) experiencing these things (even if only at the beginning or at the end) might have strengthened this movie.

Nonetheless, I really thought this was great. Would love to have done something like this myself.

PS. My wife was born in Yokohama. Never have seen images of it at night.

There is little doubt that there is a sharp division within this country. Personally, the issues are complex and interwoven with day to day life and the squandering of a nations wealth by self centerd politicians from both sides of the isle. Prior to the economic downturn in late 2007 and early 2008, 48% of the US citizenry were supported by one program or another by FED, State and Local governments. 52%of the counrty was largely supporting, completely or to a large extent the other 48%. Today, those numbers are reversed and the givaway mentality of our leaders has yet to be reigned in. There is a perpetual need on their part to solve the immediate problem by putting it off for 20 or more years. By alientating their constituants in both parties they drive even more of the populace from the polls giving them even wider latitude to be held unaccountable.

How can you meld a country like the US together, when the politicians and the media always inculcate the differences in society and how each one is special at the expense of the other, thus dividing the country into hundreds of special interests groups and sycophantly plying them for support, rather than finding some degree of national moderation and cohesion.

There is plenty of opportunity here... lots of welfare... lots of political payola... lots of promises that are never kept by either party and lots of interference in the lives of other populaces outside of our boundaries. Within our boundries however, the government wants to make sure that the minority of this country that is still working keeps paying those taxes so they can keep spending.

Has anyone had an SDM repair done recently?

I had a repair made to my DA 16-50 by CRIS after dropping my tripod and smashing the camera and lens (twice) in one day and for the first time in my career. They were fairly prompt (4 weeks or so even though they had to wait for spare parts to come in) though with the Ricoh takeover I would check about the availability of spare parts before sending it in.

The lens seems to work fine now (it wouldn't work at all after the second drop and you could hear the pieces of gears just flying around inside the lens) and the repair, camera included, was less than $250. I don't recall the breakdown in price, but I was astonished at such fair pricing. Our European counterparts seem to have to pay an arm and a leg.

So, no problems here with respect to CRIS's ability to get the job done right.

Third Trip HUH?

Just kidding. I have applied 17 times for a permit and have never gotten a nibble. So, 51 days and I have had no luck what-so-ever. I'll keep trying though.

Glad you got to make it there, AGAIN :), and around noon with good light.

Congrats on the publication. Interestingly, I actually saw said magazine this afternoon while passing some time at Barnes and Nobles.

While I was going through the magazine (many truly gorgeous images) I was chuckling inwardly on the fact that I didn't see a single image made with a Pentax.... until yours on the back cover (?) was it?
