I wish I could visit the city more... It will be another year before I get to go back... miss_alexx.. great minds think alike?

I did not carry around a tripod all day, and only used my 18-55mm for all my shots around the city.. took around 150 or so... nothing special, but a time to go out, visit the city and take pics for fun.

I was bored before leaving to go DT, and took a quick snapshot of the Chateau from my room. It was shot through a dirty window, and was handheld, so I am sure it could have come out better, if I had thought of taking a nice pic. Just uploaded it to my computer, and thought i'd share my decent view. Shot was taken at 70mm.

Would it have been better to increase the ISO to 200 (or even 400) to be able to raise the shutter speed to 1500, or 2000?

Maybe i am wrong, but I thought when panning you are suppose to turn SR off... I may be wrong. The shutter speed varied from 800-1000. I didnt intentionally strip the exif data, I just uploaded the pics to the site, and the data got lost in the process.

I cannot remember the shutter speed, but it was usually quite fast... I think one problem I had was that I didnt turn SR off.

I use the mail from mac, and through hotmail. When sending photos I never export to mail, but always drag and drop, and it is near instantaneous. The photos are not RAW format once I drag and drop them to email.. (well RAW in Aperture, but jpeg in mail)...

family photos

I am looking at doing some family photos soon. I am wondering about lighting and what would work best. There will be outdoor photos which will note need lighting at all (maybe fill flash)... the indoor lighting is what i am wondering about. I will have an external flash, and am wondering if diffusing the flash will have the best results. The room would have ceilings that are white and 10 feet in height. Would I be better to bounce the flash off the ceiling for portraits, or to purchase an umbrella to diffuse the flash? If I should purchase an umbrella what should I do? I have an extra (cheap) tripod I could use as a stand, if it would work.
What would I need to adapt an umbrella to a cheap tripod?

For these photos, money is not the priority, but I do not plan on spending a great deal of $$$

I was really hoping for better skies, and color from the sunset when I went down to take the pics. It was fun taking the pics, but most of the best pictures were ruined with people in them, or footprints in the snow.
