Storm that moved through the Ocean City, MD area a couple of days ago. Shot right at sunset. Lot of wind and rain, but no serious damage.

Went to Assateague Island National Seashore yesterday and the ponies were out in force. Here is a shot of a small group grazing in the salt marsh. No racing cars or motorcycles, just some sedate foraging.

Here is a shot from my first outing with the KP. Shot in RAW; only edit was to boost the vibrancy a bit to better bring out the color.

Smc PENTAX-DA* 60-250mm F4 [IF] SDM @ 60mm, ISO 500, f13, 1/250.

I took my new KP out this weekend to try some test shots and to get used to the new controls. I love the size; got it as a second camera to use on bicycle trips/events and as a convenient grab and go camera. Here is a link to some shots taken around Ocean City, MD: New Pentax KP Test | Flickr

They were shot in RAW and, for the most part, are straight out of the camera - a few were tweaked (the birds in flight) and a couple are cropped. Nothing spectacular in the set, just some first outing shots. I did use a circular polarizer for the harbor and amusement park shots; the lighting was very harsh yesterday.

I do have two gripes:
I have the large grip installed mainly because I like to carry the camera down by my side and it gives me a sure grip. I don't have large hands but I find that, when carrying the camera by my side in standby mode, the pressure of my palm sometimes activates the four-way controller which changes the settings. *(Note: I just found the control lock function which solves this problem. When in doubt, read the manual. :))
Also, the battery life is not up to par with my other cameras with the DL-190 batteries.
I guess that's the price you pay for a thinner body.

So far I am very happy. Looking forward to doing some low light shots to see how image quality holds up in real life.

Cheers, John

It's Snow Goose season in Ocean City. They come to feed in the chopped down corn fields every winter. Here is a shot of a "small" group of Snow Geese taking flight. Click on the picture go to the album for some additional shots.

I picked up the 28-45 during the annual Pentax lens sale; it was either 20% or 25% off list. Still a lot of money, but hey, if I didn't buy lenses, I would probably just spend the money foolishly.

Great - if you're going to be in the area, drop me a note; we can quaff a brew or two.

Hi Texandrews. I live in Ocean City. I was driving back from Alexandria, VA on Saturday (went to see Arlo Guthrie on Friday nite). These shots were taken using my Pentax 645z with the 28-45 zoom. The rig is a bit heavy, but takes great shots.

Thanks.

We were just happy to be on that side of the storm. We watched it fill the rear view mirror as we were leaving Taos.
