  1. When will we see a successor for the K3

  2. When will we see a successor for the K1 -
    1. with highly improved writing speed to SD-Card

    2. with an massive increased buffer for raws (at least 50 raws)

    3. with an improved high-iso sensor, even with a loss in resolution - to improve the already excellent results of the K1

  3. Will there be a 10-20 mm for the FF market

  4. Is there a possibility for focus bracketing in the future

  5. Can we have a series of lightweight robust high performance zooms lenses, starting from 12 to 300mm with F4 for outdoor and travelling

  6. Teleconverter 1,4 und 2 fach für FF

K-1 SD Card Hardware

maybe it's just simple, they bought a "standard" sd connecttor to put on their hardware. Nobody knows up to know wether the pins are connected to some circuit.
It may be that the "standard" connector is cheaper than a special build with two times UHS I, or this "standard" connector fits better to the circuit, maybe is mechanical more stable than others (maybe that it has 4 solder pads for the mechnic and all others have only three, maybe that he has a hole to use a screw to fix it).

On the other hand it is totally irrelevant whether the connector is uhs I or uhs II because the camera writes only wit 25-30 MB/seconds. Using UHSII needs a different hardware on the processor chip. Therfore it's useless to discuss of uhs I or II, there isn't any chance of a speed-improvement up to 90 MB/sec ore more.

How accurate is K3ii GPS?

Thats right, the calibration is not needed for simple positioning. The position is the intersection of 4 spheres with the center of each sphere in a different satelite.
Calibibration is important for acceleromation calibration getting maximum and minimum g-value in all 3 axis and for exact north finding.

How accurate is K3ii GPS?

The accuracy without the failures of the used tracker is minimum 10m (30-40 feet) (I prefer the SI system)
The google maps uses a more complex model for the earth surface (geoid) and aligned to well known coordinates, therefore some additional error terms between the GPS measured position may occur.

I had some funny solutions, photographing from one side of a street a Car on the other side in front of the house. The google map told me that I've been in the house, but the directions of the shots were perfect .

When you use the OSM card, you may get different results, because the model is slightly different from the google one.

When you take a 100 shots from a tripod you get 100 different results all within the error-circle. The average of the values fits nearly good to the position.

I did a experiment with an external gps antenna and a arduino. I recorded the 1 second values from the gps over 24 hours. The mean value was .5m correct to the position in the google maps picture, The 86400 single values where to 99 percent within a 10m radius. And there were in total nearly all satellites of the gps system.

When you take the pictures with the Nikon and the Pentax at the same f stop and speed, are both of them at the same brightness?
I suppose the K1 picture is darker. You can change this by setting to exposure compensation accordingly.

Super resolution "with any camera" vs. K-1 II as per DPR ... thoughts?

I used this technique two, but to decrease noise. I did a free hand shot (16 pictures in a series) at ISO 2500 (resulting pseudo ISO 160) overlaying them by median and it worked fine. I did it because I had no tripod around and no time to go there a second time. ( Here is a result File:Lorettokapelle (Freiburg) jm62098.jpg - Wikimedia Commons ).

But when I look a the work I had to do with 16 pictures ACR (all together), loading into PS, putting into one picture as layers, setting to smart, making median, reducing to background exporting. roundabout 20 Minutes on 6 Core 4 GHZ machine with 32 GB RAM 36 MPix ist big even for such a system.

Imaging Resource's CP+2018 interview with Ricoh Imaging

As I said before it is a System on a chip ( System on a chip - Wikipedia ). Pentax decided to use a Milbeaut core (Semiconductor intellectual property core - Wikipedia ) and ordered it by a vendor (Socionext). The ordered a single chip, on this chip is the CPU - the Milbeaut core( Milbeaut - Wikipedia ) - the usb controller, some FPGA circuit, wlan, ram-controller and some other things there are typically some privat circuits on this chip . There a different cores, usb controllers, ram controllers available. This chip is normally exclusively produced for Pentax and not available for others.

Leica (Maestro), Nikon (Expeed), Pentax (Prime) and Sigma (True) do the same, but they select different options an capabilities, therefore this are their processors

Does Pentax SR result in more image noise than DSLRs without in-body SR?

Some people don't know what they are talking off, or are interested to do harm to other vendors because they are not so happy with their gear.

There is one real advantage of stabilization in the optics, with long lenses the optical viewfinder is stabilized too, but this could be solved when Tamron, Sigma will deliver their long optics for pentax with stabilization still in (hopefully they will do in the future again).

What about
  • Pixelshift. (hasselblad, pentax, olympus.)

  • astrotracing,

  • rotary stabilisation.

  • Sensor shift

Compare Nikon with Pentax both uses the same sensor(type) from sony, and deliver same quality.

For me as an pentaxian, I'll think Pentax do the better job. If there were a need for a change, or a second system (not at the moment) I would take Nikon, none of the others.

Imaging Resource's CP+2018 interview with Ricoh Imaging

As far as I know the Prime IV is a Pentax development and the main processor. It is a System on a Chip ( System on a chip - Wikipedia ), consisting of a single or multiprozessor core, usb , AD, DA, hdmi, stepper motor, ram access, built by some one else. (there is only one firmware on this camera)

This may be the reason for the USB2 on the K-1 versus USB3 on K3. There was a flaw in the specification and the tape out (final drawing) to vendor was done. It is very expensive to stop a tape out and you must be lucky to get the next open slot, half a year or a year later, for production.

Are you shure? As far as I understand,it's the main processor on the board, doing all the management, usb, sd-cards, focussing - with the data from the subsystems - and as one of the main tasks image processing. The AU is in the direct path from sensor to the prime IV doing a special signal preprocessing of the image data (Ricoh interview) and therefore freeing capacity on the main processor.

I didn't know / see another processor on the board

Pentax K-1 sensor cleaning - how often do you clean it?

My K-3 i cleaned two times in 4 years, because there was a possibility. There was no need to go beyond rocket blower.
My K1 two times a year. There was a need to go beyond rocket blower.

I always used local photo exhibitions with a "cleaning stand", and it was done by professionals.
In my opinion the K1 attracts more dust than the previous models.
But as usual, most of it get blown away with some air.
The internal cleaning is a start stop option in my camera,
I'm missing the dust check option, as it was available with the previous models

The AU frees computing time on the prime IV. It is understandable that without the AU the K1 has not enough processing power for the improvement, even if it's only prime IV code

Low-Light iso with PEF vs DNG

I had a look on my PEF's an DNG with irfanview and the newest PS CC ACR 10.3 both show me 7360 x 4912.

I know there was an update to the development process from 3 to 4. I think your "camera raw 7.1" version is using the Process 3 from 2012
and the "camera raw 9.1.1" is using new Process 4. In the 9.1.1 you can select the older process.

The DNG is a little bit more colorfull, is this one of your settings, or is this caused by the sw?

I've used the Tenpa 1.36 on the K5 and K3, but the magnification is to big for me, you didn't see the whole field with picture and informations. On the K-1 this will be more complicated because of the bigger viewfinder

It may be useful to choose a model with a battery grip, because in the grip you can use normal 6 AA-cells or an additional D LI-90. AA-cells you can everyware around the world. If there is no change to charge the original battery take the AA-ones.

And yes I know that I said take a KP in my last post. If you don't use a grip i'll stick it, otherwise K3-II or K-1

I would take two bodies with me, with higher number of batteries and sd-cards. If one fails, the second will still work. I think that's the normal game without having a look at the brand of camera. If you need extended range for the focal range I would take an apsc one. The range (12 to 675 FF äquivalent) starting with the Sigma 8-16 up to Pentax 150-450 is covered, i would prefer a KP (even if I haven't used one up to date). If you can stay in the range 15mm to 450 a K1 would be fine.

---------- Post added 2018-04-09 at 12:19 ----------

Some times ago the SDM-motors of some optics failed (16-50, 50-135, 60-250) sometimes. This is fixed with the newer ones for a longer time now, but it will be recalled every time - the same as "pentax is doomed".

DA star lenses were supposed to be "extra special weather sealed", thats right. They are better sealed than the competitors at the same time. But even with that sealing, you shouldn't put it the water jet of a fire hose.
With my cameras I hadn't any fail because of weather conditions - they are all still working fine.

Because the new AU unit must be supported, there will be a lot of changes in the firmware. I think there is no hope for a firmware upgrade on the old one. I assume, that a lot of picture calculation has been transferred to the AU. These freed-up resources in the Prime IV can be used for AF and other enhancements.
