Thanks Guys, I'll take a look at some of your suggestions. Simple editing is all I'm interested in at this time and your suggestions seem to have taken that into considerations, I appreciate that.

I have found "ultimate paint" and "paint.net" as cantidates, am I missing a better one. Just using the programs to sharpen, edit size and color and do not need to do graphics etc.... Thanks for any help you can provide.

K100D problems...

I'm a learner at this to, (maybe two weeks) but, all I understand the AE-l buttton does, in manual mode, is close the aperture to the opening you have chosen on your lens. The meter then selects a shutter speed for correct exposure. Great stuff this automation, huh? I haven't had any problems with digital preview as you suggested, and I didn't acquire a kit lens so its all manual mode for me! Just wait till you try to figure out how to use your flash with Manual mode!!!!!

Add on A-1 filters

In the "old days of 35mm" it was cutomary to use an skylight filter as a lens protection item. The skylight had little effect on color other than to suppress ultra violet light. For some reason on my k100d it was giving me a muddier (?) color on outdoor shots......... According to the "Magic Lantern Guide" I ahould have experienced a slight "warming" effect at the most...... thats NOT what I expierienced!

My K100D takes great pics but, I was a little dissappointed in the colors. They seemed a little "muddy" so I sat down and played with all of the settings expieriencing only a slight change. I laid the camera down to pick up the manual again and spotter my A-1 skylight filter. (In tyhe old days we used these to protect a lens). Removed the piece of glass and viola,,,,,,,,,,, bright vivid colors wow.... has anyone else expiereienced this???????

Manual lenses- AV and M modes K100d

Thanks guys for all the help. I thought I understood the manual (re: flash usage), I appreciate your confirmation. I have been fairly good at guessing but will try the e - dial method although it looks a little clumsy, prbably mor accurate than my guessing. There is always my photo editor to adjust any poorly guessed exposures however...

Thanks pschulte and TDN, that is the mystery I have been trying to solve, the magic of the ae-l button. Worked like a champ. The TDN page and links are saved for future reference.

I also see this same button work with the flash in the same manner? Do I have to keep guessing as to what aperture opening when I use the flash? I did note that in manual the shutter is fixed at 120 (I think) so is guesswork all I have to set aperture with?

Thanks for the info however, I don't have a green button but believe it's sub might be a button labeled Av, However I haven't noticed any changes when trying to use it.... If I use the DOF (not sure I have that feature) what or how can I ensure I select the correct shutter speed for the aperture selected... Apparently this is not like my old P5 that where I set the aperture and the camera selected the shutter speed...

Are you saying the camera has no way of of reacting to any presets I do on the lens?

If aperture is not available to control image reaching the flash and in AV mode shutter is operating at 120 (I think) then how do I ensure properly exposed shots?

I'm even more confused........

I suppose I'm just dense but after shooting with my K100d for a couple of weeks (good results) I've discovered that in the AV mode my aperture adjustments of my non automatic lenses was a waste of time.

Problem #1 Now I'm interested in trying the manual mode, and in the viewfinder I can see the change of shutter speeds I'm selecting but - how do I know if I'm selecting the right one, is the aperture ring now in use by the camera (Custom setting in use and aperture permitted is selected) I still get -- shown as the f stop value and I don't see a change in the ev values either.

Problem #2 Using built in flash, same lenses, do I have to "guess" the correct f stop or is there no correction here.

Sorry for the "newby" questions but I have read the manual so many times I'm now confused:(

Thanks for any help you can provide....

Thanks guys. Your right Arjay, the lenses I have are K-mount "bayonet" style. No auto settings. I'm having great time experimenting. It's really neat due to the immediate results versus the old days when I had to process the film or wait for it to return from the processors to see if "I done good"..

Just got it last Friday (found your site Monday) and already have taken some pics. Just not sure how I did it though. I am using my old M lenses and found the "manual" not very explicit on how to do this. Av or M settings? w/flash? how about the "symbol" settings? Has anyone published or posted a guide book/notes? Thanks in advance for the help

Nube here, just got into the world of k100d (Friday) and boy am I impressed. I am an old (pentax) 35 mm man owning a P5, two k 1000s and a handful (bagful) of lenses, all manual. Someone gave me a Vivatar digital a couple of years ago. I have used it for taking "snaps" but recently noticed that was all I was using, so, it's time to put the "fun" back into the picture taking business. Now if I can figure out the correct categorys for posting I have a question or two....
